Day 2: Season 5 Speculation

This one has to be one of my favorite byler oneshots ever. it’s beautifully written, sweet, and a little bit sexy. It takes on Mike contemplating the end and what that means while also processing his feelings for Will. The religious themes in it are *chefs kiss*. I think it deserves more attention!

Speaking of favorite fics. As I said I am the queen of opening and not finishing fics. This one I read in such a whirlwind I feel like I want to read it again just to enjoy the plot. It’s really beautifully written. The author has a unique way of creating atmosphere that makes it stand out in your head. An eerie nightmare with Will comes to mind, and one particularly funny scene with Dustin and Will as Mike is trying to express his feelings about El, or one beautiful scene where Will is laying under an oak tree with his drawings. It’s tagged “mike is dragged kicking and screaming into character development” and it doesn’t disappoint. It explores his coming to terms with his bisexuality and feelings for El and Will with wonderful depth and grace. Anyway, I just made myself want to go reread it and you should too!

Some great Robin and Will interaction, Mike hounding Will about the painting, and some Mike jealousy. It skips around in the timeline and I enjoyed it!

Do you really think Starco was badly written? I mean, I would have also prefer for them to get together earlier, but they are teens! We can be pretty sure that they will last, so they can have other romantic experiences before the one. I think it was kinda natural for all the drama before.

Starco as in the moments they share together and their dialogues is beautifully written and is what makes them one of the best pairing of character in the history of animation / fictional media to me. The way the show handles shipping and relationship as a whole, it’s questionable at times. Between some unexpected turns, excessive compartmentalization (with all the alienation that might come with it, like “do Star and Marco actually like each other if they never ever show anything more than platonic feelings?), and excessive delaying, I can’t say everything has been perfect.But Starco in a vacuum, seen as continuous series of event and framed in the actual show... beautiful.

11. how do you think catra’s redemption arc will play out? 

she’ll find out that hordak/ the horde kidnapped her from the magicats or killed them all or something?? and that she’s a princess?? and have a total identity crisis. she’ll leave and go Discover Her Heritage, and come back more self-assured and determined to take the horde down. she’d probably convince entrapta and scorpia, and maybe lohni, rogelio, and kyle to defect with her. she wouldn’t initially join the rebellion, instead traveling with her little army of Other Rebels, but would eventually accidentally run into adora, who’s been super worried since she hasn’t seen her in battle lately. they’d get to know each other again, as stronger and better people, but still fundamentally the same. and they’d be bad-asses together. and get married. thank you for coming to my ted talk

17. do you think scorpia will get a redemption arc? 

oh hell yeah pimp!! i just think it’s also important that she can air her grievances with the other princesses who made her feel like an outsider

I NEED YOUR WISE WORDS PLEASE WHAT DID YOU THINK ABOUT THE FINALE???????

I can sum it up as “partially underwhelming but deeply satisfying”: I’m sad that they seemed to drop several plot elements and lines along the way, and go for a very open ending that could fit - maybe excessively so - the themes of future being uncertain and self determination that characterized this season (and the whole show, to a lesser extent), gving Mewni such a lukewarm resolution and seemingly “dropping” all the build up for Star and her role as a princess then queen then adviser, something that i thought would have directed her toward a more active role in changing Mewni - but, instead, they wanted to go for something that left all the teens with a world of possibilities and no impositions. 

But I’m also extremely happy and satisfied to see a finale that was so true to the theme of unity and friendship in its purest form, through Starco and rippling all the way up to the dimensions. A coming of age story with an open ending, yes, but also one that gave Star and Marco (and other characters as well) all the tools and possibilities to keep shaping up their destiny and being happy.

I still can't belive Star told Marco she had a crush on him, and that Marco realized he had a crush on Star, but I HONESTLY CAN'T BELIEVE they kissed it feels like a fanfic omg

I still can’t believe Star and Marco are mere steps from fully realizing, accepting and mutually acknowledging that they are the most important person in each other lives and that they want to spend the next eight or nine decades together, and all this before being officially romantically involved.
