Anon communities are thriving in large parts of English-language fandom as well (many are notoriously wanky, and even the less wanky ones attract a subset who are just there to argue). For people who do all their fandom interaction anon, it probably reduces "real" drama, but the intersections of anon spaces with non-anon spaces can be pretty awful. Not sure if this works the same as in Russian fandom, but they do exist in English fandom also.

Yeah! I neglected to mention this, so thanks; I kinda feel like there is still a bit more anon culture, but that’s probably I’m currently thinking about the Fandom Combat anon comm, which is just... very different, and there’s a lot of wank and generally people being little shits, but there’s quite a lot of just... discussion of Fandom Combat content, so.

And yeah, I think I’ve... mentioned this somewhere, I remember the awful shit happening in LM fandom here, and I wasn’t even in the fandom by then :( that happens in Rus-fandom as well. I think the biggest difference is how there are more people in Rus-fandom who like to pretend it’s fine and okay and “why are you getting so upset” while the stuff occuring is really shitty, and yeah.
