And... should we be too late, and the call goes out about a geist sighting...
My duty is to dispose of it.

I am not the only archivist; we’re spread far and wide across many lands, for the sake of covering as much ground as possible, for the highest success rate.
We do our duty to the best of our abilities, and the Archives are a hive of activity because of it; it flourishes because of our successes.
But sometimes...
...
...sometimes we’re too late.

...well, only the Master knows the name of my companion here. I’m afraid I can’t tell you.
When someone passes, it is my duty to collect to soul and bring it back to the Archives, so that it can be organized with the rest, to preserve the memory of the fallen.
Many things can stop a soul from finding rest; anger, lingering regrets, attachments, unfinished business... the Eternal Sleep, unfortunately, isn’t quite as easy as most would think. So we help the next step proceed.

(@askchimeknight) Chime holds a note with his question, unable to speak vocally. "A geist? Is that like a bad ghost resulting from bad energy? I've never seen one... are they dangerous?"
Nalusa: "Your companion is a Spectrier. Either of you could answer this, I guess, but I thought the Spectrier were related to the one known as Calyrex. How did you find yourselves together?

Ah, apologies... they don’t talk much.
But I’m impressed with your knowledge... they are bonded with the Master, who is what you say.
You can say they’re technically... an ‘associate’. Normally, they accompany the Master during the usual collection runs, but for certain retrieval cases, the Master is kind enough to let me ‘borrow’ them.
For cases far from the Archives, their speed is unmatched in the shadows.
@iamyourdoubt
[???theZamazenta] Your work sounds very important. How does one train for such a task?
Enide
To souls and the departed, I should say. It’s a common ability among my leash; my sire knew I was destined for more morbid work when I showed an aptitude for it, along with my general psychical abilities.
The healers taught me much on the physical side of things, how to prepare bodies and perform autopsies, how to set bones and close up wounds, that the progression to souls seemed the natural next step.
Granted, it’s not a lateral ascension, as those require a... different sort of skillset. But as I’m medically trained and can interact with souls, the Master took it upon themselves to guide my learning on the spiritual side of things.
It looks more esoteric than it is, really. Though I guess it’s not common knowledge one can easily obtain...
...so I suppose the answer is ‘have a master of the craft take you under their wing’.
