G, I, J for the fandom meme

G - Do you remember your firstOTP, if so who was in it

Edge and Rydia in Final Fantasy IV was the firsttime I was ever like “Yes, those two should be in love” as alittle geekling. While I totally understand why they are not canon(even if it is clear that Edge does love Rydia even if it's notreciprocated), I was kinda bummed that they didn't eventually gettogether.

I - Has tumblr caused you tostop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why

Mmmm, I more just fall out of fandomson my own, mainly because I get distracted by a newer, shinier fandomor one of my old loves resurfaces. I do kinda miss the older journalfandom communities but that is probably because I moderated a numberof them.

J - Name a fandom you didn’t care/think about until yousaw it all over tumblr

Biggest one was Welcome to Night Vale which I started listening tobecause of Tumblr. More recently, Voltron Legendary Defender. Andwhile I never considered myself part of the fandom, I did actuallyread a majority of Homestuck before I stopped caring during one ofthe hiatuses.

1. What inspired you to write the fic this way?

 The style I used was my typical ‘style’ (although I like to feel it’s always evolving and developing the more I write). Why did I pick to write a Western AU? I think I was chatting with someone about bank robbers in the Wild West, and made some off-handed comment about imagining Renly and Loras being gay outlaws. Spiraled out of control from there.

5. What part was hardest to write?

 I remember writing Renly’s confrontation with his past difficult just on an emotional level. But technically it was the action scenes. I still suck at them :(

11. What do you like best about this fic?

 That it was unique-- something different from what I usually write. And kind of a different take on the AU idea, considering most go with ‘Modern’ or ‘Coffee Shop’ (of which I am guilty of as well-- but then again, Modern AU’s are my favourite). 

13. What music did you listen to, if any, to get in the mood for writing this story? Or if you didn't listen to anything, what do you think readers should listen to to accompany us while reading?

 I don’t remember listening to anything specific. This was the point in time where I was beginning to ween myself off of listening to music because it started to influence some of my chapters in ways I didn’t like. But if I had to pick of something to listen to while reading, I’d go with the Red Dead Redemption soundtrack. Pretty perfect for the theme/mood/setting ;)

I hope not??? like he is probably really far up North right now? so if I did see him, it wouldn’t be for a while. If I run into any of the men from the Night’s Watch I can indeed help them dress better in death than they did in life but I don’t want to touch Alliser with a ten foot pole tbh And I’m not sure if all dogs do but I’ve seen some...like i bet ramsay’s dogs go straight2hell

for sleepover saturday, what are some melancholy song recs? my spotify playlist to cry to is lacking

Oh boy do I have the melancholy song recs for you, Sam.

Top choice has to be the song “Gloomy Sunday”-- I’d recommend Bjork’s, Sarah Brightman’s, Sarah McLachlan’s and/or the classic Billie Holiday. Billie Holiday is a good choice in general when feeling melancholy, as is Fiona Apple.

“You’re the Only Place” by Josh Groban makes me tear up every time. Celine Dion’s “Just Walk Away” is another one that gets right at my heartstrings.

Adele’s 21 album is a cliche choice but valid, I’d say.

I’m also very partial to traditional Irish airs when I’m feeling melancholy--I’d recommend “Red is the Rose” (the High Kings’ version is excellent) and “‘Tis the Last Rose of Summer” (I have Charlotte Church’s version, but I know there’s tons out there).

Dario Marianelli’s film scores tend towards melancholy as well--I’d recommend Jane Eyre and Anna Karenina.

If you’re looking for more instrumental moving type stuff as well, I’d also recommend Secret Garden (some of their songs have guest singers, but it’s mostly instrumental on their earlier albums).

If you’re a musical theatre/hip hop fan, I’m obsessed with Hamilton and finally trained myself to stop crying to it over the past few weeks hahaha...
