My Favorite Memory (1)

I have many.

The longer I traverse on this plain,

the more that I have.

This one is from when we first met.

It was summertime-

our relationship was still fresh.

You bought me a flowering plant

and placed it on the center of your mom's

wooden dining table.

You made us dinner

while we listened to Meghan Trainor.

We embraced and kissed in the kitchen

while we swayed to the music.

After we ate and washed the dishes,

you walked me out to my car.

I missed a step on the porch

and crashed down to the ground.

My knee was a casualty.

It was bleeding and it hurt.

Boy, it really hurt.

I tried my best to suppress the tears,

but they were already here.

I felt silly-

a bit foolish.

They streamed down my cheeks

while I remained on the ground.

You talked to me with a calm,

soothing voice

and reached out your hand.

You walked me to my car

and helped me sit.

I sat and wept while you went inside

to grab a bandaid.

When you returned,

you cleaned my wound

With gentle hands

and placed the bandaid.

If I didn't know you were the one before that,

I was certain then.

You were so calm and sweet.

Since then,

you have shown that you

are always there for me.

I love you endlessly.

Dear George,

A gentleman caller? In this dim bar, at this lonesome hour? I got your letter from the barkeep. He said he knew you and trusts you're not a creep.

You were at least honest about that George, that's a good sign. Now you're gone and off to sea? I hope our stars align. I asked Jay if he knew of your return and he said he hadn't learned.

I am interested to meet you, you flatter me so. I have a smile that will not leave and no one has made me blush like this in ages. Please stay safe on your travels, I will be awaiting your arrival.

After adding a spritz of my perfume, I rolled this letter up and put in the very same rum bottle. A bottle to reach you when you are back from sea. I tucked this letter next to my heart, so I'll always have it with me.
