“You could patch yourself up,” Danny agreed. “But, you know, I could heal you and save you fair bit of pain.” He offered it freely, neither out of sense of honor or obligation. It was just friendliness for the sake of friendliness, although in truth he knew that Matt wasn’t likely to accept it. The man was a glutton for punishment, so stressed Danny could smell it on him. It smelled like the copper of blood and the acrid sort of body odor most tried to hide. He scratched the back of his neck as he watched Matt.
“I could put some coffee on for you if you’d like,” he offered after a pause. “You like that, right?” Danny didn’t believe in using caffeine as a replacement for mental and physical well-being, but Matt wasn’t exactly the easiest to get along with in the best of cases. Might as well offer him what he liked.
