fav characters: Very close tie between Himari and Shoma, with Momoka being a close second!
least fav characters: FUCK Sanetoshi
fav relationship: the family relationship between the Takakura family is just…..breath-taking and beautiful. I can’t stop crying about it.
fav moment: GOD THERE ARE A LOT FUCK, here’s a top five in no particular order
The first appearance of the Princess of Crystal
The final sacrifice in the train of fate
Shoma saving Himari from the Child Broiler
When Himari tried to sacrifice herself in the construction site
headcanons/theories: ffffffffffffffffffffffffff Penguindrum theories are things that need to be reserved for thesis papers and too-long meta posts. I guess for a simple one, I truly believe that [SPOILERS] the Takakura family DID defy fate and rewrite their destinies. It took a lot of sacrifice, but I’m positive that the two boys seen outside at the end weren’t just a passing dream, they were actually Shoma and Kanba reborn. I have no doubt that the next time the train takes their souls along to the next life, they’ll all be together again. [END SPOILERS]
unpopular opinion: I don’t know how unpopular this is, but the ending was GREAT. It was bittersweet but it was exactly the ending that the story deserved, and I don’t think it was meant to be a tragedy at all. Also, I’m really not sure how unpopular this is either, but as much as Shoma/Ringo is set up, I’m not…the BIGGEST fan of it until the last half. Even then, I really love their friendship, but it’s not really the ship for me.
how’d you find it: I had watched Utena with @precioussorakaibashun and was raving about it, and then @seruspica told me about another anime made by the same director, so I made Sora watch that one with me too and wow I’m so glad
random thoughts: This show is literally a goddamn fucking masterpiece and anyone who says differently is fucking lying. Every time I watch it I learn something new, or realize something deeper entwined into the characters and themes. There’s always something new to experience no matter how many times I see it. The characters are beautifully complex, the animation is an incredible experience, and everything is just so expertly, perfectly crafted into the most incredible story I can possibly imagine. Ikuhara and his crew are goddamn geniuses.
