Oh, you found my stupid stupid D&D homebrew blog! Where I take things that already exist and turn them into RPG content! (Just D&D 5e for now; but I might branch out as I read more TTRPGs.)
What I mean is, I take characters/creatures/items/whatever from other media and pop culture and make stats and mechanics for them.
As much as this blog is for funsies, I take this seriously as an exercise in both adaptation and game design. So fair warning, some character accuracy may be sacrificed in order to produce well-balanced, usable content. It might be fun to figure out how much damage Saitama deals in a single attack to kill literally anything in one punch, but mechanically speaking, that would be a game-breaking pain in the ass for any player or DM.
Works the other way around too. If I like a character, but they only demonstrate a few abilities throughout the [game/show/movie/comic/book/whatever], I might stretch their established powerset, refer to fanon, infer more abilities, etc. instead of finding something easier to adapt because fuck you I like them.
Most character posts will be two-parters: one post where I take existing races/classes/backgrounds/feats/stuff and figure out how best to build Johnny Characterpants; second post, where I make a subclass that more accurately reflects the core of that same character.
For the Part A’s (the “Canon Builds,” as I call them), I’ll stick to official Wizards material as much as possible, just to see if I can. BUT - I’m a big fat hypocrite so I bend this rule when I want. Particularly, when I think a race/class/thing from an established 3rd-party publisher (Kobold Press, Frog God Games, ENWorld) would fit better for whatever I’m adapting. Also because the homebrew community needs more love. And I might break my rule even more and suggest other homebrewers’ stuff with proper credits and links and whatnot, like a madman!
Final disclaimer, play these builds at your own risk. This blog is like, 70% for goofs, but I am trying my best to create balanced, thought-out material. I certainly won’t have the chance to playtest everything before I post it. And that’s why I’m throwing all this crap up here for free, and not charging you a Suggested Donation up on DMsGuild. Maybe they work, maybe they’re absolutely broken. If you like my stuff, try it out and see! And – in a constructive fashion, if you please – feel free to let me know what does/doesn’t work!
Sorry for the overlong intro; I’ll probably post a FAQ version of this in a futile attempt to cut down on hatemail. TL;DR: Welcome to my dumb homebrew sinkhole, have fun!
