The first of our Community Creations for the rewatch is:
EOS has been studying the idiosyncrasies of human language in an effort to work out which combinations of words make the humans laugh / cry / facepalm / react with horror and why this differs depending on who is saying it.
For each episode please submit your favourite (short) quotes. They could be funny, surprising, reassuringly typical for the character… whatever you like!
We’ll compile lists as we go and perhaps have some polls further down the line as to which we love the best.
Use the standard tags (#Thunderversary #Thunderversary-Rewatch #name-of-episode) and also #character-name and #EOS-log-book and don’t forget to @thunderversary-rewatch-party so we can add them to the list!
Pick me up off the floor,Virgil reaching his hand out to the father in the balloon. just like the old school logo, that's an Easter egg surely.
Scotty -i-don't-understand-the-meaning-of-PPE- Tracy, swinging around holding onto just a grapple pack just to do maintenance on TB1, don't you make my Health and Safety brain break young man.
I am also realising that I have been picturing the kitchen on Tracy Island completely wrong for a very long time. not sure my poor brain can be rewired now, so that might just have to stay forever.
This episode is a masterpiece, so much equipment shown, so many people shown - including cluing us in our their relationships. The hiding under the desk to avoid grandmas cooking, which is actually a cunning way to let the audience know that Jeff isn't on the scene any more.
Also, how the hell does Gordon not even manage to get through one episode without getting stuck under a sea quake? This is why they kept him at home in the original series. absolute liability.
Side note, I would totally wear Lady P's gold peep-toe shoes.
Has anyone done a tally of how many episodes feature THB attempting to become a submersible? The big green bathtub really wants to go for a swim.
But Gordo saves the day and Virgil is just swinging his way down to Thunderbird 4's floating shipping container. Just like hes popping down to the shops.
Oh and Virgil is out in force with that all saving hand again (thank you WETA for the grubby paws).
And dont get me started on sleepy Virgil yawn when theyre all back on the island. The yawn that launched a thousand Whumps!
Kayo felt more playful in this episode, chilling with Alan and quite ready to push the mysterious button. Maybe once she finds out that its her uncle behind the evil stuff she hardened up a bit. Or, and this is just a chance, I may have just read too much angsty fic and thats tinted my perception.
ON TO EPISODE TWO!!! whooo hooo!
John completely dismissing the Hoods demands as from a bad movie villain. Consider yourself dismissed Hood.
Scott being the dumb blond representing the audience needing to be told why a solar array is suddenly an emergency. Use little words to explain it Brains, we all want to know the answer.
I do think that they might have considered evacuating the city before it got toasted. I guess it's in line with trying to distract everyone with Bingo in TOS.
THUNDERBIRD SURFING!!! THUNDERBIRD SURFING!
(I do hate the ugly pencil skirts they give the background characters in these. Poor Professor Moffat also got one of the cursed skirts, poor woman.)
Could they make Kayo any cooler? HALO drop? Oh I think they managed it. Yes, thats "why-walk-when-you-can-jump-over-it" going in to get the bad guy. So hang on, she mutes the comms so the Tracy brothers don't hear about her family connection to bauldy breeches, but all those GDF dudes who come out of the shadows (no pun intended) along with Val, presumably all know her family connection too.
(dear mr Hood, Harry Hill would like his shirt back.)
QUOTES
favorite quotes
Virgil "Slow and steady wins the race" that you do my boy, that you do.
Brains "might I suggest, look don't touch." how many times does he have to say that on the island? I get the feeling the Tracy lads might be tactile learners.
Scott, "whats that john, a rescue, I'm on my way!" no acting prize awarded for that wooden delivery.
Special mention for Alans :"smells like feet" now that we have it confirmed that it wasn't scripted.
Watching Desperate Intruder for the rewatch party and this is a good episode for quotes, so here's a submission for the EOS log book:
The Hood: Sand, sand, nothing but SAND! (Whilst driving through a desert)
Prof Blakeley: ... proof of the pudding is in the eating what what
Brains: what?
The Hood: Treasure
Literally anytime he says treasure. He sounds like a crazy pirate.
The Hood (he's having a great day for quotes): A veritable swarm of Thunderbirds!
Scott: how are the invalids? (Whilst 2 of the people concerned are sitting right there)
The Hood: Now to destroy International Rescue and collect the treasure.
For context he can see one Thunderbird. The smallest one. He knows two bigger Thunderbirds are on the surface. This is a strange definition of "destroy".
Prof Blakeley: Excitement too much for them I suppose.
