Okay okay but I’m devouring your worldbuilding, and I NEED to know, are there any modern people who claim Jord heritage or who show signs of their bloodline? Like, surprisingly good craftspeople, or people who refuse to call their home anything but Jord?
AAAA THANKS I LOVE TALKING ABOUT THIS
So Jord and the surrounding cities/civilizations in the Iron Peaks went through a whole period of assimilation where previously disconnected areas became aware of and interacted with each other a lot more following a period of conquering and crusades. It was similar to the Hellenistic period for a real world equivalent — all these societies were getting conquered and in the interim became exceptionally more In Touch With Each Other under a single banner. These societies sort of morphed together into something new that combined a lot of their cultural aspects.
The one SPECIFIC thing that set Jord apart before it became Hywell / New Jord was the involvement of Eosa the Bright, an adult Brass Dragon who has spent the past 2000 years heavily involved in the protection and dissemination of information and knowledge throughout the Iron Peaks. They are currently the president of the local arcane university, as well as the founding member of the New Jord Historical Society. Eosa managed to preserve a lot of the culture of Jord in writing over the decades of conquests. In modern times, this means that there are a handful of local (mainly dwarf but a few elf) families that can trace their lineages back to original Jord citizens and these families all stay heavily involved in the Historical Society as a way to remember their roots and preserve their history for future generations.
