Rambling about Fairies - Manga Chapter 1 + 172 + Anime Episode 80

Another parallel! Due to technological and worldbuilding differences. 

On Earth. Lucy is fascinated by the idea of Ability-type magic, because you can’t buy that in a shop! That’s so cool, isn’t it?

While on Edolas, the idea of people just naturally having magic doesn’t quite make sense to Lucy, because Holder-type is all they’ve got. 

There’s also only one magic shop in this town, though, for darkly different reasons. There’s little people buying them either way, but they both acknowledge that travellers need them. 

The anime takes it one step further by making the shopkeeper this familiar old man. 

And you know the most important thing? The total both comes up to 20,000J. Lucy couldn’t even haggle a 5% discount in Earthland, the storekeeper in Edolas unhesitatingly gives her a cut down to 18,000J. Then when he finds out they don’t have money, he gives it to them free of charge!

That is a cool parallel to show us just how different Lucy is, down to the way she has influence, a good reputation, and a name that people love and admire enough to give free service to. 

It’s a contrast to our poor Lucy who keeps getting snubbed by Jason. 

Anyways, big win for the anime!!!
