Do you have an eumaeus design? (The loyal swineherd from the odyssey)
I DO!
Ares who helps Odysseus. fights the suitors angrily? Nah.
Eumaeus had 4 dogs, wild as beasts. You can't tell me Ares didn't lose track of time when he played with the puppies.
Ares: Athena look! That black one's giving me a kiss!
Athena: Ares he's... he's trying to bite your hand off.
Ares: What???
Eumaeus: Um my Lord, should I call off my dogs or-
Ares: Sends him a look full of murder.
Eumaeus: ... ooooor never mind. Have a... a good time??
Ares: Great! So where am I- oh a group hug!
Dogs: Trying to take Ares down and bite him off like a prey.
Ares: Best. Day. Ever!
Happy (worldwide) Mother's Day!
Anticlea was surprised this morning by her three little ones
Nah, I have to draw more of kiddo Ody and his siblings. At first I wanted to do 'Clea with newborn Ctimene and Odysseus seeing her for the first time but I had to change the plan to include Eumaeus! I'm happy with it tho!
Young Ody who can't shut up cus he met Penelope and his younger siblings who laugh about it (but only for the first week, after two months they've had enough). Odysseus is like 16, Eumaeus 12 and Ctimene 10
"Discreet" Ody and his pet "owl" So I'm sure that when Odysseus told his family that he had a goddess for a friend (because you know him, he can't keep his mouth shut) everyone was very confused but they preferred to think that this was how he dealt with the stress of soon taking the throne so no one paid any attention to the suspiciously polite bird. Apart from little Ctimene who thinks her brother is lying and was a little pain like most toddlers. Btw, I am planning a post explaining what this triangle on young Eumaeus's chest is because it is a very interesting topic about Ancient Greece.
Babies together! (when everything was still ok and Ctimene didn't hate her brother) I said in the previous post that I would say something more about the triangle on the chest of young Eumaeus. So generally I found that the most widespread use of tattooing in ancient Greece was to penalize criminals and slaves. Especially in case of the second one, tattoos made on the forehead or another visible place were a sign of enslavement or a form of punishment. So I decided to mix what I found with my headcanon. Slaves in my world have a capital letter delta (Δ) tattooed on their chests. It's the first letter of word "slave" (doulos). Apart from the fact that everyone who was captured for sell got this tattoo, if you bought a slave, you could tattoo your symbol or initial in the middle of delta. I wanted to do this mainly to show that Eumaeus and the rest of slaves Anticlea and Laertes have don't have such an addition. Why? Because from him and from Eurycleia we learn that they were really good to their subordinates, (along with Ody and Pen as well). The queen literally raised bought boy as her own son. Eurycleia, the wet nurse for Odysseus and Telemachus, also says in the Odyssey that she was very well treated, the king Laertes bought her as a young girl and gave her the respect like for a wife. This happened very rarely, so I would like this to be visible. Btw in the fic I'm writing there's a mention that Ody on the occasion of his return (and that Telemachus' diplomatic mission was successful) gets some servants from Menelaus and Helen as a gift. Mainly because Ithaca is short on people due to the killing of suitors and escape of their families to other islands. I decided that servants from them already come with the letter "M" in delta. Odysseus is here 11 y/o, Eumaeus 7 y/o (bought as 4) and Ctimene is 5 y/o. Oh and Ody is a monster, raw raw raw. Thanks for reading!
Eumaeus and Telemachus ✨️
So this is one of my favorite scenes in the Odyssey. Odysseus as an old man (by Athena) watches his friend and loyal servant, Eumaeus, greet his son Telemachus. They literally have a father-son relationship, and the swineherd calls the prince "the light of my eyes" (🥺) when he shows up at his hut.
The catch is that Tel went on a diplomatic mission to Nestor & Helen and her husband, which is why he greets him with such longing. He literally cries and kisses him all over his face.
And ironically, Odysseus sees this, knowing that he can't greet his son for now. Homer, you 👊
The second art is a little duddle from his youth. Eumaeus was bought by the royal family in Ithaca and was raised together with Ctimene, looking at how much he loves Odysseus and says it directly, I think they must have had some kind of lil/big bro relationship. I'm a bit obsessed because he has an important role in my fic lol.
He's dressed in yellow because it's the cheapest dye and after all, the last 20 years have been bad for this island, right?
