So what should I do if a friend is having a seizure?
That again is a loaded question. It truly depends on the circumstances and type of seizure. But let’s explain the basics:
1. You notice your friend is acting a little funky
2. You ask what’s up and they don’t answer
3. Go to them and hold on so they don’t fall
4. Gently lay them down
5. Begin timing this episode
6. If you’re in public call someone over to you to assist if need be
7. Don’t restrain them if they start to convulse.
8. If there’s anything they can hurt themselves on, move it. Don’t put anything in or around their mouths.
9. If you see them start to come out of it, roll them to their side (they’re probably gonna spit up #justepithings)
10. Stay with them as they wake, calmly tell them what happened and how long it lasted.
11. If your friend has had a seizure before and it was under 5 minutes, don’t call an ambulance. But if it was their first seizure or it lasted more than 5 minutes call right away or take them in yourself.
12. Just be kind and understanding, reassure them it will be okay. Try to make it to a safe place as soon as possible after, they will be sleepy and sore.
