Trump Weird News - Due Process - Needs Repeating...

Dear Tumblr,

The recent Affirmative Action ban by the Supreme Court, drawing on the Equal Protection clause of the 14th Amendment, is Problematic.

But I’m curious, from experts who want to info dump, what other steps college admissions or other folks could take in light of this ruling. Examples:

Points for poverty

Points for economically disadvantaged zip codes

Points for people whose parents did not graduate from college

Etc.

It seems there may be various strategies for prioritizing disadvantaged applicants in the face of this ruling without resorting to race as a factor?

(and I’m not saying race shouldn’t be a factor)

JOINT RESOLUTION

Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States.

1          Resolved b the Senate and House of Representatives

2         of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

3         (two-thirds of both Houses concurring,)  That the following

4        article be proposed to the legislatures of the several States

5        as an amendment to th eConstitution of the United States,

6        which, when ratified by three-fourths of said legislatures,

7        shall be valid as part of the Constitution, namely:

8                          ARTICLE --------.

9              SECTION 1. No State shall make or enforce any law  [hand written in the margin, "Now aid to insert _ see"]

10       which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens

11       of the United States; nor shall any State deprive ay per-

12       son of life, liberty, or property, withut due process of law;

13       nor deny to any person withinits jurisdiction the equal pro-

15             SECTION 2.  Representatives shall be apportioned among

16       the several States which may be included within the Union,

17     according to their respective numbers, counting whole

18     number of persons in each State, excluding Indians not taxed.

The subsistence farmer is running a private business

He uses the wealth that is his land, time, and effort. He invests these things together to produce more wealth in the form of food. If he produces more than he wants to keep, he can choose to exchange his surplus for something else he wants.

This is self-sustainable and self-sufficient. This is the core from which all human communities and cultures spring. You cannot reduce humanity lower than the farmer.

Under anarchism, no one protects the farmer’s property from thieves.

Under socialism and feudalism, the government decides what the farmer must produce (even if it’s something he can’t eat, like coffee beans or poppy flowers) and takes as much as it wants from him without regard for what he might want in return. The farmer is reduced to a serf; a slave tied to the land.

What is the only system under which the farmer is both free to choose and own the fruits of his labor, and protected from thieves and from the system itself?

Biden admin extends Title IX protections to transgender students

In a policy directive, the department said discrimination based on a student's sexual orientation or gender identity will be treated as a violation of federal sex discrimination law.

The Biden administration is extending Title IX anti-discrimination protection to trans students.

Donald Trump and his homophobe Republicans fought hard to remove protections for LGBTQ Americans.

Don’t let anybody tell you that the two major parties are alike. I would never trust the judgement of anybody who makes such idiotic comments.

The policy and ideological spaces between different groupings in the Democratic Party are comparable to people in different rooms in the same house. The distance between the Democratic Party and Republican Party is comparable to the space between that house and one of the more obscure moons of Uranus.
