I’m rereading Charmed Life for the first time in a while and I just reached the part where Cat admits to Mr. Saunders that he’s left-handed and he was always punished for writing with his left hand at his previous schools. And I checked, and this book was published in 1977. The same year Star Wars came out. Less than fifty years ago. And I did the math, and Cat is probably like six or seven during this book. He’s just a little kid! And I’m thinking about how Charles Rowland was sixteen in 1989, so he would’ve been close to Cat’s age in the 1970s, and he also attended schools in Britain. Was he punished for using his left hand as well? Like Cat, did he get very good at watching the teachers and switching between his right and left hand while doing his assignments, to avoid punishment? Did Edwin have a similar reaction to Mr. Saunders when he finally found out? Was Charles surprised, like Cat was, to meet someone who was angry on his behalf instead of angry at him? I’m honestly surprised this isn’t dissected more in fanfic.
