A Day in the Life of Former The Click Five Front Man Eric Dill
Do you ever wonder what everyday life is like for your favorite celebs? You might be curious about what kind of breakfast cereal Usher likes, or how Ken Griffey Jr. makes time for all his errands. Well, I can’t tell you much about Ush or Ken, but I can give you an inside look at what the typical day looks like for me, former The Click Five front man Eric Dill. Let’s take a look.
I usually wake up to talk radio. Sometimes I wake up to ALT 98.7, but I’m always nervous that they’ll be playing a song by my old band, The Click Five. Don’t get me wrong, I’m extremely proud of my work with The Click Five, it’s just that I get this intense pang of nostalgia whenever I hear our stuff, and that’s not the kind of vibe I want to start my day on.
Cage-free brown eggs with omega-3, lightly salted hash browns, and a tall glass of orange juice (extra pulp if I feel like I’ve earned it).
7 AM: Morning Run Through the Park
Not running from anything, just running towards a better me.
11 AM: Meet Someone for Coffee
It’s always nice catching up with old friends. Last week I had the pleasure of seeing my former bandmate Ethan Mentzer, who played keyboard alongside me in The Click Five.
I grow tomatoes, cucumbers and carrots, and along the way, I can feel myself growing into a kinder, gentler being.
Salad from the garden and Cliff Bars (I used to BASE jump with Eric Boragno, the CFO of Cliff, so he sends me these giant crates of bars every Christmas. Real nice guy. I always tell him that he’s welcome to stay over whenever he's in town, but he insists on staying at a hotel because he “doesn’t want to be trouble.” I tell him he’s being crazy and that hospitality is my middle name, but he just laughs and tells me to fuck off.)
2:30 PM: Work on my Garden’s Blog
Water-soil-love.tumblr.com. Follow me for updates on my produce and info about what farmer’s markets I’ll be at.
3:30 PM: Skype Grandma Meredith
It’s important to me that we keep in contact, especially because she lives on the east coast so I don’t get to see her very often. Hopefully I’ll see her next summer when I’m over there on tour with my new solo album, In Love With Eternity, which will be available for pre-order September 14th.
4 PM: Go To Skid Row and Give Out Cliff Bars to Homeless People
As I said before, I have more Cliff Bars than I know what to do with. Fortunately, I know exactly what to do with them: feed people! I’ll usually get some pictures with the people I’m saving where we’re both holding up Cliff Bars and smiling. I put them on my Instagram and tag the Cliff Bar account in the hopes that they’ll regram, them but they never do, even though it would be great PR for both of us. I shot Eric a text about it but he said he had nothing to do with the brand’s social media. When I asked him to put me in contact with somebody from that department, he told me I could reach them at 1-800-FUCK-OFF.
5 PM: Go to the Studio to Work on In Love With Eternity, Available for Preorder September 14th and in Stores October 9th
We’re in post-production at this point, and my producer Yung claims that he can handle the sound levels without me there, but I’m kind of a control freak about my work. I also think Yung gets lonely when I don’t come, although he would never admit.
7 PM: Dinner at the Studio
We know this great Chinese place that delivers, and I have to say, I'm getting pretty good at using chopsticks. My trick? I threw out all the forks I had hidden around the studio. I’ve learned as a musician that if you want to progress, you need to challenge yourself.
7:30 PM: Take Yung to my Favorite Lookout Spot to Watch the Sunset
I figure the more sunsets he sees, the more he’ll understand what I want the album to sound like.
Yung is a huge Laker fan, so if there's a game on I let him listen to it. During the commercials I turn off the radio and ask about his family and whether he believes that we're all here for a reason.
Seems early, but I need to get as much REM as possible if I want to have dreams that inspire art.
