O-oh hey guys. Been a minute since I did a writing status update, huh?

Wellllll here I am! Mostly because I finally FINALLY finished all the requests I had left in my ask box. ALL OF THEM. It only took me years 😭 So I wanted to give you all an update on me, what I've been doing, and the future of this blog. I'll start with the blog, then put the rest under a read more so you can decide if you wanna read it or not lol.

Blog Update

OKAY SO ANOTHER GAME RIGHT??? Look I'm gonna be honest guys, I was preparing to put the blog into some kinda semi-hiatus because I just could not get into I Do and I didn't anticipate myself being interested enough to do much beyond the usual reblogging. But with Sinner's Choice coming up, I've decided to wait a bit. My blog has seen a surge in activity ever since it was announced and I'm pleased to ride the wave of interest for a little bit, too. It might turn out to be good enough to get me to write fic more often again! (We'll see.)

Request Update

That being said, I'm going to have to make a big change to requests. In the past, I would open requests, gather a bunch, then close them and work them all bit by bit. I just don't have the time or energy to do that now. So instead, I'm removing the request status indicator. You can leave a request any time you want. However, there will be NO guarantee that I will do it. You're just gonna hafta take a gamble on it. If I'm interested in the idea and I have the time and motivation, I will do it. It might take a while, too, so be prepared to wait.

Similarly, I'm as thrilled as ever to receive asks of any kind. Back in the day, I was getting like five a day and answering them at that rate too and I don't know how I did that and wrote as much fic as I did at the same time lol. Clearly that is not something I can do anymore, but if you don't mind waiting, please feel free to send me asks about anything. I'm always happy to receive them, even if it takes me a minute to respond.

Writing Update

No guarantees on anything here. I may be inspired to write some more fics again, short stuff probably, but I also might not. I do miss my OCs quite a bit so I might write more for them, too. I know that's not particularly interesting content for most people, but this blog is entirely a source of fun for me, so that's what I'm going by. If you'd rather not see my OC posts, you can block the OC tags. BUT that doesn't mean I won't also write for canon characters. If I write at all, it'll probably be a mix. I might even run an event in the future. Maybe if I hit 4k followers or something.

Okay now for some personal updates.

I'm still writing, but I've been working on original stuff more than anything else. If you want some updates on a vampire story I've been working on, you can follow my original writing blog @misc-chronicles.

I'm not really gonna get into much about my personal life here, but I did want to say that there have been quite a few difficult things happening lately. I'm dealing with some heavy shit and that means that a lot of times I just don't have the emotional or mental capacity to write as much as I'd like to. This blog still gives me a bit of an outlet, but I've had to learn to balance myself a bit better. I have a lot of obligations in real life that take priority over anything online. And I've learned that sometimes rest is more like sitting around doing not much of anything rather than obsessing over fictional characters hard enough to write novel length fics about them lol.

So if you aren't seeing much of me for a while, I'm probably dealing with some stuff. But don't worry, I'll be back. I can't stay away from Barbatos for too long, it seems~

this is super super nit-picky but i feel like the sympathy for senketsu being born "half blind" is slightly misplaced - he would have some depth perception due to the monocular cues from his one eye. not as good as having both eyes functioning, but it's also likely that he'd be able to better adapt to it bc that's all he's ever known

Heh, the depth perception thing is mostly a joke. (Why in the world would you design a living weapon with one eye?)

But---and I go over it more here---the thing that gets me isn’t that Senketsu was born half-blind. It’s that he was purposely, intentionally made half-blind.

To quote:

I’ve said it before, but it’s always one of the saddest things to me, when Senketsu is interpreted as a father figure or a mentor for Ryuko and thus his death is “for the best” or “right” because she’s all grown up and doesn’t need his help anymore, and death is a good narrative way to bring across these ideas. Because, regardless of how Senketsu’s character looks on a surface level, he wasn’t wise and experienced. Not in the slightest! He was literally under a year old, hardly got to live life, and grew with Ryuko as her equal.

Senketsu’s missing eye isn’t the result of him making a mistake and learning a lesson. It’s not a tragic scar from a tragic event twenty years ago. It’s not a battle wound. It’s not a sign of his experience and wisdom.

No, Senketsu’s missing eye is because Isshin/Soichiro decided that it would be cool to make him that way.

And that’s... just mean.
