For you and @lotus063! I haven’t gotten BO4 and everything about the Chaos crew is still a mystery, so enjoy these random headcanons. If I get anything wrong, you’ll know why xD
Although her parents were around, Scarlett was ultimately sent to a boarding school for girls when her father was away for too long and her mother grew too ill to care for her.
She was easily intimidated by her peers due to their higher status and the fact their parents were always there for them. However, she fought back by becoming independent and excelling in her studies, particularly mathematics and science, which caught the eyes of her teachers. She finished at the top of her class and at age 16, she started working as an engineering assistant for one of her teachers.
Stanton was the one that drove her to pay one last visit to her dying mother at the hospital. While Scarlett doesn’t approve of his drug addictions, she’s blessed to know a father figure was there for her at the hospital and at her mother’s funeral. She’s glad he’s with her on the journey to find her father.
While she distrusts Bruno because of his past, she puts in the effort to know him more by trying to replicate French cuisine. Half the time it doesn’t go well and she and Bruno have to put out the fire she made. She does chuckle when Bruno attempts to eat the charred remains of the Chicken Basquaise.
She’s well-aware that Diego is attracted to her, but her time at the boarding school and in the field of engineering has taught her to focus on only the necessities in life. She is secretly flattered though.
Before the Mexican Revolution and his days of spying, Diego was a simple teenager that sold food with his parents at the local market. Even in his hometown, he was the most dashing man that the local women swooned over. He had no interest in any of them, though he did enjoy the attention of his admirers and the glares of their fathers.
His culture means everything to him and his parents are close to his heart. When he could, he would write home to reassure them that he was fine and that he was well hidden; they would write back with prayers for his safe return and send treats, handmade bracelets in the colors of his country, and rosaries that would “tell” La Virgen María to look out for him.
On their travels, Alistair would tell Diego stories about his family, particularly about him missing his daughter greatly. Diego grew intrigued and when he finally met Scarlett, he quickly swooned over her just like the local women did to him years ago. He now knows what it’s like to be in love. He’s still pursuing her despite the rejections.
Out of the whole group, Diego is the team’s mascot. What I mean by that is he’s never in a bad mood. If he spots his team member feeling down, especially Scarlett, he’ll swoop in and try his best to cheer them up. He doesn’t feel comfortable around sad individuals as it makes him remember the fact that he hasn’t written to his parents (who are most likely dead) since he joined the crew, which will put him in a bad mood.
Although he has some opinions on Bruno and Stanton, he does try to get on their good side since they seem close to the Rhodes family than he is. He doesn’t want to feel like a foreigner anymore and would appreciate the possibility of a friendship with either of them.
He used to adore his ex-wife, Evelyn. He adored the former nurse that assisted in treating his burnt wounds the first time at the hospital and it seemed that she was the reason for his constant visits there.
When she found out about his drug addiction, she did try to help him get off them. He was and still is a stubborn man when it comes to his ‘medicine’ that it ultimately caused her to divorce him.
Even if he is bitter about her for ditching him, he does feel remorse for not always being the best husband and not being able to get better. In the end, it seems Laudanum is the only thing that will stick by him until it’s his time to go. Or whenever it kills him.
Alistair was the one to help him cope with the addiction by taking him along on his travels and helping the man get more involved with engineering and chemistry, which does help him pass the time before he has to succumb to the need for Laudanum. Stanton was the one that introduced Scarlett to inventing weapons; a concept that she used for her own gadgets.
Stanton cares about Scarlett as he knows that he’s been there for her since her mother died and her father was nowhere to be found; going with her on this journey makes him think he’s redeeming himself for the past mistake of not being there for his wife.
He doesn’t like talking about his childhood just as much as he doesn’t like talking about his time as a gangster. He did more horrible things in his childhood.
He once had a girlfriend that he didn’t treat well and he regrets it since it was during his time as a gangster. He still hopes that she’ll forgive him and is doing okay wherever his men left her dead body at.
Alistair was the only person in Bruno’s life that actually sat him down and told him that he can do a whole lot better with his life. Alistair gave him that second chance.
Even if Scarlett burns the Chicken Basquaise, he’ll still eat it. Once he’s done eating, he’ll show her how to properly prepare it and will make some dessert for himself and her. He was once a cook for a short period in his life.
Despite his and Stanton’s dislike for Diego, he will invite the man to a game of Poker, Blackjack, or ever Gold Fish with them since he knows very well what it’s like to be a stranger in a new environment. He sees a bit of himself in Diego and he doesn’t want the man to fall victim to what he endured.
