Okay, I've been inactive here because of studying for the degree I'm determined to pursue (nursing is killing me, but I WON'T GIVE UP), BUT, I just saw the visual for the My Hero Academia: More OVA and I have to say, ✨IT'S ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!✨ AAAAAAAAAHH-
But even so, and with all that said, I need to say something important...
I just hope and wish that when the My Hero Academia OVA (the one nicknamed "More") comes out, which will focus on chapter 431 and will largely star Ochako (my space mochi 🩷🍡🪐), when they get to the part that's Izuku's POV...
PLEASE include some kind of internal monologue about his feelings for Ochako (first and foremost in this case) and about his almost complete lack of experience in social interactions and human relationships; because, man, 11 years of almost uninterrupted bullying that nearly bordered on "systematic discrimination" CAN definitely mess up someone's ability to better understand social relationships and their comprehension and management of their own emotions (and yes, I researched the long-term consequences of prolonged bullying on the victim, and also on the aggressor in case I bring up the topic, but now's not the time).
And although our dear Izuku may seem emotionally "mature," he simply lacks MUCH MORE understanding of emotions to truly be considered as such. It's a miracle he's not as much of a social misfit as Shoto because, thank God, he had a lot of maternal love to compensate for most of that (forgive me, Shoto). Even so, Shoto seemed MUCH more emotionally mature than Izuku in that chapter (forgive me, Izuku). Because, dude, the fact that you explicitly need your ex-bully best friend to tell you straight up that you should focus more on YOUR OWN FEELINGS and be selfish with them for once in your life says a lot about you, huh? (And it's funny that it's Katsuki who tells him that, since he's another emotional jerk).
But getting back to the topic of what I want, NEED to see, in the OVA. Why this? Well, so that when we get to that beautiful moment when they meet in the street, amidst that sea of people—what a tremendous moment and place for that event, GOD—and Izuku tells her that he "wants to talk to her more, wants to be with you more" and Ochako says "I thought the same thing" with a smile and tears in her eyes, that "pseudo-confession/implicit confession" from Midoriya doesn't seem so ABRUPT; because right before seeing that glorious scene we were seeing Uraraka's POV again—and the last shot we see of Izuku's POV is when he says goodbye to Katsuki; It's not accompanied by anything significant—and even that same scene is from her point of view, which is why Izuku's arrival and his declaration weighed so heavily on her and the viewers (which did a bit more harm than good since people saw all that action as something too sudden on Deku's part, creating the image that Izuku fell in love with her that very day, which isn't the case since reality is much more complex than that).
That moment of introspection on Izuku's part is necessary because it gives a bit more meaning to his sudden action of asking Ochako for "more time with her"; it would not only explain/show the motivation behind this action, but it could also present the foundations of those feelings, their origin, so to speak, answering that great mystery and "eliminating" (or "calming") the belief that "he suddenly fell in love with her that very day." I also request that his near-total inexperience in social interaction be explored from his point of view, as this is the root of the problem that led to this resolution (because it's only touched upon superficially by Katsuki, and "superficially" is an understatement).
I already mentioned that bullying has a strong impact on a person's social interaction, especially in adulthood; leading to an inability to fully understand and manage their own emotions, and sometimes even to recognize the emotions and/or feelings of others. And although Izuku shows an innate ability to understand other people's emotions, there are also times when he struggles, and if we're talking about understanding his own emotions... well, let's just say he has a certain degree of understanding, but it's not enough.
I could dedicate an entire post to doing a psychological analysis of Izuku, but I think that idea will have to be added to my ever-growing list of "pending post ideas" (kill me). So, without further ado, I'll end my post here. Until next time <3.
PS: Another wish of mine is that this OVA lasts a good 45 minutes (the maximum length an OVA can have without being considered a short film or feature film, I think), so that they adapt not only chapter 431, but also the very nice Eri one-shot. That could be used to add some other original scenes of the "green tea" couple and other characters, plus I really want to see Eri sing (I NEED TO SEE HER, GOD). Who knows, they might even show some of Izuku's new hobby besides taking notes and—I think, I'm not sure—drawing (which is photography). That would be super cool.
PS2: Translated terribly by Google Translate, so if anything is confusing or misunderstood, that's why; don't judge me. *now she disappears*
