Braime fic rec list (sorted by authors in the order that I read them)
The very first author I came across in this fandom was ShirleyAnn66, who is a literal queen. Not only did she finish the books with the EPIC story “A Dance with Ice and Fire” (Sorry, GRRM, but you can stop writing now because she already did your job). She also created the absolute masterpiece “All the Roads are Winding”. This story is one of the most genius fiction works I’ve ever read, both because it’s such a unique concept (and beautifully written at that) and because it allows her to continue it infinitely with the “All the Roads are Winding – Additional Universes Series”, which for example includes the incredible “The Rancher and the Mail Order Bride”. But you can also start out with some shorter pieces. I can highly recommend the “The First Lannister King and His Queen Series” with its two adorable, little stories.
The second author I found was @astolat who is probably one of the best-known writers in this fandom. She has published ten Braime fics and every single one of those is written gold, my absolute favorite one being Pretty.
The next author that crossed my path is @robotsdance, who, on top of being an amazing story-teller, is ridiculously creative, with the concepts and ideas being as varied as they can get. Must-reads from them include “Someday (you will be loved)”, “Always find me here” and the two fics “Through our paths diverge (I travel with you)” and “Inside of you (inside of me)”. But my absolute top picks are “Take care” and “The sinking man” which I love to pieces and could read every single week!!
The last author I’ll rec today is @eryiscrye. And hello, talent has a new name. Yep, seriously that amazing. Not only has she written “The Ties That Bind”, which is a story that gives me life and which I never wanted to end. She’s also done the impossible by writing “Unique in All the World”, which is a Braime-version of the movie “A walk to remember”. I’ve loved this movie for years and I love this fanfic just as much. But a warning for anyone who doesn’t know either: it’s a major tearjerker. She wrote a beautiful ending (it’s actually much better than the original ending of the movie) but I still cried my eyes out. So, if you don’t feel like crying or to soothe the soul afterwards, I can also highly recommend “The Other Side of Me” which is one of the sweetest short fics I ever read.
And if you’re already at it, just read all their other stories, too. :)
There’re lots more authors and stories saved on my tbr list, and if those are only half as good as these four, I don’t have to worry about running out of great fics in the next years.
This was DELIGHTFUL. I’m a child of the Pacific Northwest in the US, so I love love LOVE fun in the rain. I decided to go with a vague established relationship with these two because this was just PURE fluff that deserves that level of established happiness <3
Send me a prompt!
Forehead kisses + Rain + Fun
“Jaime. Jaime.”
Jaime grumbled into the pillow stuffed under his face, burrowing deeper into it as he registered the unmistakable patter of rain on the rooftop and Brienne’s long fingers gently shaking his shoulder.
“No, Brienne. Lannisters don’t function in the rain.”
Jaime didn’t even need to look at his wife to know he had just received one of her patented Lannister-induced eye rolls.
“Jaime, you’re half Tarth now. It’s about time I start to educate you on an ancient island tradition.” Brienne’s voice had the same solemn, almost reverent quality she brought to her lecture hall, but when Jaime finally cracked his bleary eyes open to meet hers, he could see joy and what looked suspiciously like mischief in her steady blue gaze. He smiled through a yawn as he sat up, blinking the rest of the sleep from his eyes.
“Ancient island tradition, hmm? You know me too well, doctor.” Brienne’s laugh wrapped around him, and she tossed a pair of rain boots at him in response. Jaime caught them easily before his eyes locked in on the steaming mug of coffee in Brienne’s other hand. She arched her brow, leaning in to give him a peck on the cheek before striding to the doorway.
“You’ve got twenty minutes, doctor, or I’m drinking the rest of the coffee and leaving to perform ancient rites without you.” Jaime grinned sleepily at his wife’s retreating figure and managed to dress himself and tug on the rain boots in fifteen of his allotted twenty minutes.
When he made his way to the kitchen, Brienne was lost in thought, a dreamy expression on her face as she watched rain track down the window panes. Rainy days like these reminded Jaime all too well that Brienne was a child born and bred of the Stormlands, and his heart felt warm as he took in how at ease she looked in her rain gear. She glanced over at him, and Jaime was shook once again at how much bluer her eyes shone against the gray backdrop of the storm clouds outside.
Brienne grinned at his happy hum upon spotting the thermoses and cream cheese-slathered bagels on the table. “Ready?”
Jaime heaved a pretend sigh, but returned his wife’s grin as he snatched up a bagel and took a bite. “Ready.”
Twenty minutes later, they arrived at the neighborhood park, and Brienne was tugging the hood away from his face.
“Brienne!”
She tweaked his nose, tossing her own hood back.
“First step to this ritual, you’ve got to let the rain on your face. It won’t work if you have a hood up, and you’ll probably invite a curse on our house if you try to pull out an umbrella doing this.” Brienne led him to an uneven path where water was starting to form puddles in the stones, and Jaime glanced at them suspiciously, stepping carefully to avoid the larger ones.
Brienne, on the other hand, seemed determined to examine each and every puddle, and her eyes lit up as she seemed satisfied to discover the largest pool of water on the pathway. Jaime grinned fondly as her voice took on her best academic tone.
“Now. In order to fully exist among the islanders of Tarth, you must be prepared to weather all storms, and embrace them, whether on land or by sea. We learn this ancient rite as children, and I expect you to be well versed in the traditions of the island by the time we make our way home. Now. Watch closely.”
Brienne shot a grin towards Jaime, and without any further warning, she jumped into the puddle, and Jaime knew she was biting back a smile at the litany of cursing the sudden splash elicited from him.
Her leg swung back and forth in the water as she waited to see how Jaime would respond. Brienne descended into giggles as Jaime shot his own playful smirk her way, jumping into a puddle next to hers, kicking his leg a little to send water towards his laughing wife.
Brienne gasped in delight before kicking water over at Jaime with equal enthusiasm, enough enthusiasm to send her flying back, landing butt first into the offending puddle with a shriek of laughter. Jaime bent over, his laughs echoing against the rain-soaked leaves on the trees. He stepped towards Brienne, crouching down to place a fond kiss on her forehead as he smoothed the wet hair plastered across her face back to behind her ears.
Jaime offered Brienne his hand, and he had all of a moment to recognize the impish flash in her eyes before a yank on his hand had him sprawling over his wife. Brienne looked magnificent up close in the rain. Her skin had a rosy glow that seemed to warm him from the inside, despite the rainwater soaking his knees.
“Wretched, wicked woman” He mumbled into her ear with a chuckle. She returned his feather-light kiss on the forehead, trailing similar soft kisses down his temple to his cheek, and then his nose, before meeting his mouth with hers in a firm kiss made sweet with the rainwater on their lips.
“I’m an islander, doctor. We’re a wild bunch.” She teased, gripping his arms. “Besides, think about how much fun we’ll be able to have drying each other off.” Jaime arched a brow and nipped playfully at Brienne’s earlobe.
Jaime grinned at the pleased sigh his nip elicited from Brienne, and pushed himself back up to his feet. “Sounds like a perfect end to this honored tradition, doctor.”
Tagged by @eryiscrye that's very sweet of you, thank youuuu! 🤗💖
Rules: List the first lines of your last 20 stories (if you have less than 20, just list them all!). See if there are any patterns. Choose your favourite opening line. Then tag 10 authors!
LOL I don't post a lot, so here's the 10 things I have on ao3, from oldest to newest. Everything's JB except the first one, which is a Sherlock Holmes piece.
"-¿Holmes? Mírame a los ojos. Vamos, mírame." - from La aventura de la pierna enyesada (this is actually the fic I'm proudest of because I wrote it to prove my sister i could write a love story and she loved it. I cheated a bit because it's hard to dislike old folks loving each other BUT I STILL WON)
"Unbidden, Jaime trotted into the yard." - from it’s not snails (he swears)
"Leaves snapped and squelched with every step, breaking the stillness of the ruins of Morne." - from fates
"Cleos Frey had never been a saint, but he was sure he did not deserve this punishment." - from an honest muttonhead
"Jaime closed his eyes and allowed the warmth to spread through him. The birds sang, his clothes raked." - from in a sky full of song
“It’s only ten hours,” Brienne said in a horrible, high-pitched imitation of Jaime’s voice. “It’ll be fun.” - from because of you (I took my time to come around)
"“Más rápido,” la mujer le urgió por encima del hombro. “Si no, nunca vamos a llegar.”" - from two-legged rat (this is actually the second fic I'm proudest of, because I use Paquita la del Barrio as part of an extended joke)
"Tarth hated the Long Night." - from candles burning
“This is how the world ends, not with a bang, but a whimper from a smug chihuahua.” - from Trembling with Tenderness
"The ground shook, throwing them all in the snow." - from Blinded by the Lights
Patterns: no surprises here - I favor shorter sentences or dialogue lines, because I like to start with action and hopefully getting right into the thing before it grows too big. First lines are very important to me so I always try to use them to set the mood and tone from the very beginning.
Favorite: the chihuahua line, I just think it's fun.
(It's also the title I'm proudest of - "trembling with tenderness" is also from The Hollow Men AND it makes a reference to chihuahuas' tendency to shiver and be cute. It is thus also a joke because chihuahuas are vicious beasts and anyone who thinks the opposite hasn't really interacted with chihuahuas.)
Not tagging anyone because I don't know who's done it, but please feel free to steal this and tag me so I can see all your lines
I'm gonna resubmit that ask because I'm boo boo the fool 😂, or I can torture more fav comments out of you. Both? 4, 11, 14
I have answered all of them!!!!!!
But also:
14. Favourite fic you read this year
It is a running joke that I have spent a lot of this year campaigning for people to write me Beast!Brienne fics but let me tell you It Is Not A Joke To Me I Am Dead Serious. And you deserve to be acknowledged as the first who tried, and even if you didn’t finish that fic for the exchange (and I live in hope that you will one day finish it 👀), the fic you DID write for the exchange, the Mulan AU, The Greatest Gift And Honour, still gives me feelings. All those bath scenes....
👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀
Honourable runners up: Concupiscence, by @agirlnamedkeith and Freely Given by @samirant, which may have started last year, but finished being published this year. Both made me feel a spectrum of feelings, and tbh that’s my barometer of a Good Fic. How many feelings did it make me feel?! Too many to process? Ok, must be good.
💙 This is probably quite obviously the Miraculous Ladybug AU 😂 I've made a few changes since the last time I did a WIP meme for it.
This is a bunch of sentences because ilu 😂
****
"Wench!" The overly familiar leonine greeting came from above, and sure enough, dropping onto the edge of her balcony was Golden Lion.
There was little difference in his tone between 'Wench' and 'My Lady', Brienne mused; the biggest difference was that "his lady" was King's Landing's beloved superhero and "wench" was just Brienne. Nevermind that they were one and the same.
"Hi, Kitty." She reached out instinctively to brush the blond from his forehead. "Causing trouble as usual?"
"More like I have trouble," Golden Lion sighed, draping himself over the railing dramatically.
Brienne took a slight step back and regarded Golden Lion with a fond but exasperated smirk. But her smile fell away as she took in Golden Lion's lamplike green eyes saturated in more melancholy than mirth. They were staring listlessly into the open night.
"Kitty?
"Starlight doesn't love me back." He says into the air more than anything else. He then looks straight at her. "Do you know what that feels like? When you love someone and they don't love you back?"
Jaime's face came to Brienne's mind automatically, tousled blond hair, bright green eyes, and a smile that only hinted at mischief.
His words earlier that afternoon, "I'm sorry, but I'm in love with someone else." Given with an apologetic shrug of his shoulders that could bring upon no hard feelings.
It was Brienne's turn to look up at the night sky, "Yes, I know the feeling."
For short fic post, 24 (literally bumping into each other au) + Braime? 🥰
This is a little off-brand for me, but I hope you like it!
When the Night Is Over
He lost her in the humid Volantis night, some time after the sweat had dried sticky on their bodies, but before he'd woken to beg her to stay. The air was thick and grasping when he burst out of the cold hotel lobby, half-dressed and wild to find her, his heart a drumbeat in his chest. But it was night and the streets were packed with tourists loud and laughing like gulls, and she was nowhere to be seen.
Jaime had come to Volantis to get lost himself, to escape his miserable family and reputation and begin again as whatever the fuck he could find before the last of his money and time ran out. He'd spent his way quickly through even the enormous amount of dragons he'd had, mostly on his fancy hotel room and exquisite meals, each one of them savored alone. The food here was rich with spices and creams, every bite dripping into his mouth whether it was roasted fish or grilled vegetables. The tastes of Volantis laid thick on the tongue, against the skin, a city of sumptuous desire, and Jaime should not have been surprised to find that desire made flesh, a pale, glowing beacon against the reds and golds of the city.
It had only been that morning when he'd stepped out of this same lobby, his head turned to the left, her body slamming into him from the right. Her phone went crashing to the ground, the loud crack of the breaking glass and plastic muffled by the dense Volantis air.
“Shit!” she'd said first, and if she hadn't spoken, if the phone hadn't looked so ordinary and broken on the ground, Jaime might have thought the whole day, the passionate night, a dream.
Soo, I was tagged by @forbiddenfantasies1 @eryiscrye and @ddagent to do this voice meme thingy. Oh God, I always forget how much I don’t like hearing my voice recorded. Also, I just realized how bad I am in working with these apps and uploading things on Tumblr :D.
I love hearing all the accents in JB fandom, I’m sorry in advance for myself and also for how quiet I speak (I don’t know why? I tried two times, it didn’t get any better…) Here is a picture of cute NCW in a blue shirt as compensation for your troubles listening to this.
