Uhm... No... I admit he was a handsome guy - and he is a cool daddy now - but not the kind of male beauty I like, at all.
Random Dive!
As we wrap up my last week of new content before the Countdown to Eurovision, I have one more deep dive in me! Another random one that will send us off before we get to Wrap Up Week! The next time I do a random dive, I should have more years in the past to rank, and the 2025 songs will be eligible!
Today's dive will be...France 1996!
"Diwanit bugale" becomes the FIRST Eurovision Dive to be a 1990s entry on Aijamisespava. Dan Ar Braz teamed up with l'Héritage des Celtes to bring "Diwanit Bugale" to the stage. The song is in the Breton language (a language not often used, France also sent a song in Breton in 2022). The song finished 19th on the Eurovision stage after qualifying through the Qualification Round by finishing 11th.
Eurovision 1996
As we return to weekly ranking posts, we reach Eurovision 1996. This was a year of minor growing pains for the contest. Because of the influx of countries from both Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union disbanding, and no way to have all countries compete without Petra's "3-8 hours" joke of Eurovision true (this would be an issue until 2004 when we solved the issue).
Before semi-finals, countries that were almost relegated would instead compete in a pre-qualification round where the best finishing songs would go on to the contest. This was short lived as it wouldn't last the decade, and then in 2004, we made semi-finals which gave us more Eurovision and more magic.
I did NOT rank the songs that didn't make the pre-qualification round. HOWEVER, that would be an interesting post for another day that I can put together later.
Ireland would score their 7th win in the contest (historic at the time) with Eimear Quinn and "The Voice," which is incredibly beautiful and, my sister and I joke that it seems like something out of Lord Of The Rings (sorry to those that disagree). This was also the last entry to win the contest in a jury-only contest, as televoting would be introduced in the 1997 contest.
My winner for this year was "Den vilda" by One More Time for Sweden.
