The Winning Halloween Song
A series of Halloween Eurovision songs would not be complete without today's staple of a song. It's the highest scoring one of Eurovision history (so far), and I knew when I ranked the year that I HAD to write a post for it on Halloween.
Everyone: "Hard Rock Hallelujah" by Lordi.
Lordi and their song was selected through a National Final called "Euroviisut 2006" which they won. Then they performed in the big semi-final, won that, qualifying for the Grand Final, AND THEN WINNING. This marked Finland's first win in the contest, and started a string of rock entries that went on to 2008.
It's great, and powerful, and deserved to win as it stands out from many others. It's also sealed its place in icon status, which cannot be denied.
Happy Halloween everyone!
I watched the 2006 Contest lately and noticed that Dima Bilan was wearing a white tanktop during his Performance. Why haven't other male contestants done so? Imagine Mahmood, Mans, Uku....
It's probably a matter of style and fashion... You know, tanktops are hot and everything but Eurovision stage might not be the right place for such sporty outfit, at least not for singers (while I can see it on dancer just fine!).
Lordi’s immediate reaction to their win was so Finnish
