Two shout outs this week for @peggysuecollection after seeing her at #escapetherunway and #bgfg2017 @thefairtradeshow 🎟🍃 Really amazing to meet you @i_am_justone and discover your story of the artisans you work with and so great to connect IRL @chicmadeconsciously 💚 • So, you know what I love most about #fairtrade? It's not just the concept of providing people with just pay for their skills and work in the form of a living wage. I believe in fairtrade because it brings dignity into the lives of millions of people, their families and their communities. Dignity and dollars. Here's a truth that's hard to reconcile - the lie of globalization is that the capitalist economy was supposedly created to make everyone relatively rich. Urrbody. Them trickle down dollars. But as I was reminded in #corporateknights magazine this week, 8 of the richest people are as wealthy as 3.6 billion of this world's population. That's one boardroom table of richies with the same wealth as fully half the world's population! So our economies are actually keeping billions of people poor and disenfranchising them of their inherent human rights. It properly pisses me off. Does it make you mad too? Thankfully, there's a shed load we can do about it. Advocate and start our own social impact brands, work for conscious companies, canvass and protest and run for office and demand better and do better and yes, buy better. And shout about it - sharing stories about the people who are creating change and the new economies that are shaking down the old system. The shake is on.
