oh im also going to revamp Esiael. like MAJOR revamp, total overhaul of his backstory, but using his design. my friend is going to be running a mesopotamia/Old Testament flavored setting and I've had an idea for basically a "what if Judas had to live with himself" character. and he's a Drakewarden this time around. but I love love love Esiael and would like to give him a Proper Go Around this time

What's the most ridiculous yet on-brand ways your OCs could die?

oh YES

Caliope: most on brand would be finding a trap in an ancient ruin and not being able to figure out what it does so she triggers it to find out and fucking,,, DIES

Odette: MOST on brand would be getting struck by lighting AGAIN and dying AGAIN and having God punt her back to life AGAIN

Thalia: Probably something born out of complete inexperience... like I love her but she hasn’t been doing this Adventurer thing for very long what if she Eldritch Blasts in the wrong direction and takes herself out??? IT WOULD HAPPEN

Kier: Trying to fucking,, punch a dragon to death with her BARE FISTS. Or a wizard. Or a possessed evil dragonborn warlord. Instead of getting some distance like a rational human being (am I speaking from experience?? MAYBE)

Limwen: Almost certainly she will severely miscalculate the distance between two points she’s trying to teleport between and will end up plummeting off a cliff a la Wiley Coyote

Esiael: any death for my sad angel boy would be just Tragic instead of ridiculous but I think he would probably try to do something Noble and end up just Dying instead lajksdfhs

Sutir: He’s a legend and he would go out guns blazing trying to steal a castle by himself while noblemen are still LIVING THERE he’s POWERFUL and he WILL face God and walk backwards into hell if he can’t have his own big ass castle

Penny and Lazuli can’t die because they’re too cool but if the closest it would be would be together, penny turning into a fire elemental and burning down Lazuli’s house in the swamp and then taking down the entire rest of the everglades on a whim, with lazuli cheering her on before they both realize what the fuck just happened

I’ve only been following you for about three years, but the constant, visible improvement of your art has been an inspiration to me to keep at my writing, in hopes that it improve at a similar rate. It’s been incredible to see your art quirks become actual hallmarks of your style, and to see you master things you used to bemoan in the tags. Also Esiael is the COOLEST

4. Has your character ever been hurt or betrayed by someone they thought they could depend on? What happened?

I think he felt pretty betrayed when he realized his parents were not the people they claimed to be, and their involvement with the criminal underworld of their city while still being prominent nobles really threw him for a loop. The BIGGEST betrayal was when he realized that his brother was actually NOT on his side and had thrown in with their parents instead. He thought that Rhistel was someone he could rely on to do the Right, Lawful Thing and instead Rhistel revealed his own selfishness and greed right as Esiael was planning to break away and challenge his parent’s right to authority. It was a huge blow to him.

9. Is the character a victim of abuse?

Not really, at least from a young age. His childhood was relatively good: he lived comfortably with reasonably supportive, if a little distant, parents, and had a brother who he adored and trusted. Most of the hardships he faces come later in life after realizing that everyone else in his family has a MUCH different set of priorities than him after learning about how people are being hurt by their actions. Esiael values justice so much more than personal gain, mostly as a result of having a connection to the celestial and good examples of how to be a Just Person, but his family is mostly the opposite and indulges in selfishness instead of kindness and generosity. 

22. If they could change just one thing about themselves, what would it be?

Esiael is not necessarily a fan of being an Aasimar. He’s the only one in his family, and it’s always been a slight point of jealously between him and his older human brother Rhistel. His brother feels he has to prove himself to be stronger and more capable than him at all times, while Esiael could conceivably get away with a lot more in his parent’s eyes while they were growing up. Esiael thinks that if Rhistel didn’t feel the need to prove himself to his parents and to the world because Esiael wasn’t blessed by a celestial, then maybe Rhistel might have sided with him against their parents.

How I feel about this character

I always feel a bit bad about how sad I’ve made him and how many raw deals I’ve included in his life story but also I’m always a slut for drama and I would love to see how he rises to the occasion in a campaign!! I think that he deserves the world and EVENTUALLY I’ll give him a bittersweet/happy ending but in the meantime I’m happy to see where his character goes while dealing with All The Bullshit I Give Him

None, my son doesn’t have the Emotional Capacity to even think about romance right now

My non-romantic OTP for this character

I would say that he and his brother had a really great relationship before Esiael discovered that his brother had betrayed him and sided with his corrupt parents, and the twists and turns of their unstable relationship that fluctuates between deep familial love and outright scorn and hatred is something I’m very interested in exploring

My unpopular opinion about this character

Am I valid for basing a character around the song The Plagues from Prince of Egypt. Probably not. Am I too mean to Esiael and should I have nailed down an exact backstory for him a lot sooner. Yes

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

I hope that whenever I get to play him in a campaign he has a very interesting relationship with his Goddess who really doesn’t act in his best interest - I’d love to play out her selfishness and her Absolute Commitment to Complete Justice versus Esiael’s internal struggle of balancing the scales between Justice and Mercy. I also hope his brother gets to be in the campaign and that Esiael has to grapple with how their relationship has changed now that his brother has sided with what amounts, in Esiael’s opinion, to Corruption and Selfish Greed, while he himself takes the opposite path and gives of himself Completely for the express purpose of Helping Those Who Cannot Help Themselves.

I've been trying to come up with reasons why I like your OCs, but honestly, I can't come up with any one reason. They're all just such good beans for so many reasons, and (like that left-handed compliment anon said) they clearly make you happy, and that makes me glad, that you're happy, because you deserve all the happiness. Now, flip the script! What's one thing *you* like about each of your OCs?? GO!! :P

Caliope - The OG, I absolutely love how smart she is and how much fun I had getting to be a history obsessed wizard in game

Thalia - My current Love, I’m a big fan of the Overall Character Development I’m going for -  basically her finding out that she has a Core of Steel that a little bit of pressure is going to reveal :) also the aesthetic is Peak

Limwen - first character I ever really developed (shes from 7th grade lol), she’s a badass and I love her dynamic with Cass

Odette - Lightning Cleric Aesthetic, shes HOT, also I’m real proud of her whole backstory and I would definitely play her in a long term campaign

Celeste - she’s one of my more playful characters, and I really like her whole trickster aesthetic, especially paired with her Divination speciality :)

Kier - HELL yeah she punches REAL good and she’s like, actually competent

Esiael - oh my god I love my sad blue angel boy... he’s probably my character who is genuinely trying his best but gets knocked down the most? I like how hard he tries to do good even though it’s so hard what a good boy

Penny/Lazuli/Sutir - team lean mean green and chaotic neutral... the Monster Kids are literally unstoppable and I love them
