While we didn’t get any canonically LGBTQ+ characters in TFA, Temmin “Snap” Wexley, who was raised by his aunt Esmelle, and Esmelle’s wife Shirene did jump from book canon to movie canon. I’d call that half a victory since he was raised by a lesbian couple.

@terribleminds Thank you for doing what so few Star Wars authors have done before you. Your inclusion of gay and lesbian characters in Star Wars has meant so much to so many people in the queer community. The way that Sinjir, Esmelle, and Shirene were written so normally in Aftermath is so important. Thank you for making people like us a normal part of the Star Wars universe. A lot of us grew up reading Star Wars books as a way of escape from all the things that suck about growing up queer. Your book has given representation to the next generation queer kids picking up Star Wars books for the first time, and has shown them that their orientation is completely normal in a galaxy far far away.
Please keep up the good work, and please keep including a variety of queer characters in your work. We’re really excited to read Aftermath: Life Debt once it comes out in May. In the meantime, if you ever want to tell us more about Sinjir, Esmelle, and Shirene we’d love to hear it!
