i love the idea of grace and colt being estranged. for a myriad of reasons, but a major sticking point was both of them viewing the other's career choice as Bad.
like, colt thinks grace becoming a middle school science teacher was a waste. grace is insanely smart, he could've made it in scientific circles if he didn't rage quit out of it.
meanwhile grace thinks colt is fucking insane for being a stuntman. it's insanely dangerous. honestly, i think colt's accident is one of the last things grace hears about him, when he's hit that point in low-contact where you just don't really care anymore when you get told things/about the person.
and then grace is sent to space. and it's the first time colt hears anything about him in YEARS. all he's really left to sit with is that maybe grace was right.
being a big shot scientist is sending him off to his death. and colt is still a nobody, just doubling for the stars that people know and love, his name never in lights. hurting himself over and over for the sake of a good goddamn shot.
and grace is off saving the entire fucking world.
colt never even got to say goodbye to him.
