I’m starting to realize how much I love Ethan Barris as a character. Truly a king of minding his own business and being involved while not interfering. He really just wants to do his architecture stuff and hang out with all his new friends and isn’t phased by any circus shenanigans

Mr. Ethan Barris frequently wraps his gifts in whatever he has on hand, which has been anything from newspapers printed in every language from Ukrainian to Hindi, to old account ledger pages, to architectural drawings, to letters written by unknown personages. The printed text and handwritten flourishes are as pretty as footprints in the December snows, or marks left on icy lakes by shiny sharp skates...

my tara and lainie burgess headcanons:

— tara and lainie both have very long hair, but tara’s is actually a lot shorter (though people don’t notice the difference) because of a long ago dare when they were children where she cut her hair and it has still not caught up to lainie’s length 

— they have many secrets (this is canon though lol)

— they both love the colours blue and turquoise 

— tara can’t walk in heels as high as the ones lainie can walk in

— they have matching pearl jewellery (it just seems to suit them)

— tara prefers to wear her hair up, whereas lainie lets hers flow over her shoulders

— they love literature and have passionate discussions about it

— they’re very protective over each other 

— they are each others therapist 

— they’re not only sisters but the most important person to each others lives and lainie is of course lost without tara and constantly reminded of her 

— lainie eventually realises ethan truly loves her and accepts his proposal, and they are married after the events of the night circus book
