RESTAURANT REVIEW: Where is “Eat”? : The Café Restaurant to Look for

At these times being able to find a decent and new restaurant is never easy. Whenever I look left and right on the highway I see nothing new of the sort; fast food chains here, Coffee place there, eatery this, pares house that. For someone like me finding a soothing place to unwind (maybe like a Café of some sort) while also being able to find varieties of meal (like Restaurants of some sort) that can blow me away with rich taste on a calm mood. The problem of me not finding one is that I wasn’t looking so much, and that the place for me is well-hidden from my eyes.

             Averting the drama of my lack of adventure, I stumbled upon a place called “Ethan’s Café”. As I entered the room I was greeted with a menu and a seat for two having my little sister to accompany me along the road. As I was waiting for the order of my sister I can’t help but feel the nostalgic vibe of the place, I looked around and I felt at home. The atmosphere was already weighing with memories as if I have been on the café before. As soon as I heard my little sister talked though, I was woken back to reality; I have to admit that the aesthetic of the place was wonderfully crafted and their kitchen is placed behind a glass on where you can see what the chef’s cooking but the place was not for the loud.

             As we waited for the order I can smell the aroma of freshly brewed coffee covering the air, the songs of different acoustic rendition that truly gives off the “chill” vibe, and the comfort of being at home outside your home. The old style of the café makes you forget to hold your phone and just talk to the person with you or enjoy the surroundings and feel nature taking you to a stroll. Not to mention the wooden carved furniture really lives of “being one with nature”.

             It was not long until we received our order which is a twist on the Philippine dish “Bulalo” with this one being the out of the soup and into a sizzling plate which one of the most recommended meals of the café and frappes for me and my sister. The moment that I pierce through the beef I knew I’ll embark on a flavourful ride.

             The exquisite cooking of the beef, tenderized to the point that it is easily cut through with a knife but not so much that a finger can shred it has left me in awe and by the time I indulge into the succulent beef I lost my sense. I felt as if I was driven into a glorious delight and to exaggerate the meal I have tasted was to do wrong on the café for the meal deserves much praise from its plating to its taste. The frappes were not to be excluded especially the coffee they offer. As a coffee enthusiast I have gone through different coffee shops and I was not disappointed on what Ethan’s Café has presented me.

             I was eager to learn more about the establishment and the manager was well-accommodating and kind enough to agree for an interview after the meal we had.

             The manager stated that the place was the actual house of the owner’s of “Ethan’s Café” and most of it remained as it is for it bears a great deal to the family having the business built on August 13, 2015. The hanging copters, planes, and shelved cars signified the hobbies of the family and the idea of being a café restaurant was the enthusiasm of Ethan, which was in fact the youngest son of the owners, with food. The tree that stood tall in front of the house remained to add aesthetic value to the house. Its antiquity is well defined on being less of a modern communication style (having no Wi-Fi) and more of the conversation with one another type (actual talking) and shows greatly of dining in a café with a complete meal that made it different from most café in Valenzuela at the time of their launch

           The location of the restaurant café was well-hidden with offices, the University of Fatima, the Church of Fatima and a playground surrounding it. With the location the manager said that the business was slowly ascending and that mainstream café was their great competitors being, as mentioned, them as diverse of a meal oriented café as it can possibly get. But being able to comply for what they lack, they started advertising on mainstream media and took the demography of students, church goers, and office people as their target. The name “Ethan’s Café” rose from where it was and was able to be featured on an article of “Inside Manila” being titled as “Valenzuela’s Best Kept Secret” due to its location and its well defined food, on “Zomato”, great social media feedbacks and even the place on where the City Mayor’s lunch meeting are usually held on. The business started growing and growing and never failed in consistently doing so.

             The manager also said that the aim of the café is to present consistent food tastes, to provide excellent service and to live the “feel at home” ambiance it presents. The food specialty of “Ethan’s Café” is actually “Lechon” but since it is by order I settled on what is the best of the menu for now.

             Truly the experience I had was astounding and even overwhelming. I felt like I was somewhere that I existed before even though it’s my first time going there. It can be quite pricey especially for students on budgets but not for those that would like to spend their money on worthy food.

             A well recommended restaurant together with a well recommended food on a well recommended place. After the fine meal we head home with a full stomach and well fed mind and if café restaurant like “Ethan’s café” have taught me something, it is that: “Not everything you want is handed on a silver platter, all it takes is a little trip to find what you’re looking for”.

SOLID 4/5 - If you’re aching for a pleasurable food experience that is both new to the taste and new to the sight with a budget that you would spare to have a great meal, Ethan’s Cafe is a well-recommended place.
