"And you said this is a national holiday....?" She was curious, flipping some fish on her grill. "Ya lucky my beasts are combat bred. ... Well, the older ones. Mocha's only a threat to mice."
"The national holiday, back where I come from. It's th' date our country officially declared independence from the country we had been a colony of. And here we are centuries later, still truckin' along."
He smiled, watching the aforementioned animals playing in the grass. "Enh, give him time. He's still young. An' mice are a prey like any other."
@ether-chosen
“……. You have them too???”
He’s thinking of Orayo, the emissary of Kapan’gihan, God of Primordial Chaos. Nils stills questions why the gods chose an eight year old boy to be Its emissary, and one who is known to have temper tantrums.
Knock knock, it's her, holding up her lantern bag with the pattern on it glowing a bale blue. She holds out an old, worn looking oil lantern.
"In case you need to leave the house. Keeps the shadows away."
He takes the gift gratefully. "Thank you, ma'am. I was wondering if I'd be going to work today."
Stepping back, he held the door open for her. "Do you have time to come in for a bit? Maybe a little second breakfast or a cup of coffee?"
Hmmm. Maybe we should take a vacation somewhere? I dunno, I dunno about Us and I think we need to maybe have space and time to talk about it like adults
I mean we have a kid that we just kinda... accepted, and now he's growing up and will be walking before we realize it. You moved in pretty much over night, and while I didn't mind at the moment I kind just. Accepted your presence because I forgot how it felt to have a body next to me like that that isn't just going to vanish on me because of her job or standing in reality.
I enjoy you. But I don't know you. If that makes any sense...
> The inbox message from Morwen raises your hackles in a few ways, and your stomach - such as it is - throws itself against your spine (also not a thing you have) trying to get further away from your computer and this communique. Every extant instance of your presence winces badly. One of your kids starts climbing you to check on you, and otherwise you simply make yourself scarce.
> You thought you told her that you weren't getting in a romantic relationship with her. You thought you were clear, and that you were raising your child, but that you could have terminated or taken your son for yourself at any time.
> You could freak out on the dash, like you often do if your aromantic status is challenged in a way that could be public facing, but this is still private. You smooth your hair back with both hands across all bodies, and let out a sigh, and you answer her ask privately.
heyyyy, sooo. love vacays, love time together, uhh. 🙏
whaaaat do you think Our relationship is, precisely, so I can put My words in the right order?
"Cheer up, you'll get em next time. May i recommend the silly snakes in a can trick?"
"Oh, isn't that the can that has a silly lil snake that springs out when opened? Ya' know.. I don't think I've ever tried using one of those! I should try some tricks the mortals use to do harmless pranks~!"
@ether-chosen said: It's not much, but a small beetle hairpin made of gold and carnelian is delivered to Ava through a small crow. A souvenir, a gift, a tiny trinket from a stranger met at a barbecue. Whether it's kept and worn or not isn't Morwen's concern- just that the shiny scarab pin made it to the recipient.
A hand was offered for the crow - muscle memory, her dragonflies acted the same way - to land on, but the gift that it is carrying is just as interesting, if not more, than the bird itself. It does get a silent thank you as Ava accepts the little trinket, her smile growing wider as she examines it.
Oh, how she loves bugs. Pins were practical on their own, but hair pins are something she really should spend more time learning how make in all the varying forms they take. That will be going in her hair, once she wrangles it all into a suitable state for decorations.
She needed to make one to give in return. Gods, she's out of practice, but she's certain she'll be able to whip something up.
Aren't you scared? She is a god in the mortal flesh. You are just a man. What is a man to a god?
The man chuckled. "Believe me, I'm fully aware of th' gap between us. A common man is no equal to royalty, nor royalty an equal to a god. I first approached her from th' position 'f a man looking to serve, to exalt."
"She didn't want that. She wanted an equal, a friend. Maybe somethin' more. And while I was stunned by th' concept, thinking it demeaning to her as you yerself are sayin', I've realized that to give 'er anything less than she wished would be th' very disrespect I wished to avoid."
"So, I carry on. An' if I'm ever found unworthy, let her strike me down. Justice will have been done, and my story may be used t' prevent others from making my mistakes. I could accept that."
