The Beginning...El principio...

Toda historia tiene un principio, y la de Eunoia Boutique no es diferente.

Si lo buscamos en cualquier navegador de internet, la definicion de Eunoia dira: “beautiful thinking; a well mind”. Y ese fue mi enfoque al crear esta marca, por decir asi. Somos perfectos para la mujer que no quiere gastar una fortuna en ropa o comprometer su estilo. Al comprar en Eunoia Boutique no solo ayudas al planeta al reusar prendas, ya que la industria de la moda es la segunda mas contaminante del mundo, pero tambien compras prendas elegantes, modernas y en perfecto estado. .

Ah se me habia olvidado, me presento: mi nombre es Sophia y vivo en la cuidad de La Ceiba, Honduras, es mas un pueblito que una ciudad honestamente hehe, y yo soy la creadora de Eunoia Boutique. Es un proyecto que empezó en mi mente hace un año ya (voló el tiempo) y aqui estamos creciendo poco a poco, lento pero conciso. De la experiencia se aprende y he aprendido bastante los pocos meses que han pasado desde que abri la tienda online. Y decidi abrir este blog para poder expresar mis ideas y tips (por decir asi, porque son mas inventos que nada) mas profundamente. Para cualquiera que quiera escuchar las historias y mis crazy inventions. Bienvenidos. 🌱✨

Every story has a beginning, and Eunoia’s is no different.

If we google the definition for Eunoia we’ll come up with the following: “beautiful thinking; a well mind”. And that was pretty much the focus I had while creating Eunoia. We are perfect for the woman who doesn’t want to spend a fortune on clothes or have to compromise her style. When you buy our pieces you don’t just help the planet by reusing clothes, the fashion industry being the second-most polluting industry on the planet, but you also buy pieces that are elegant, modern and in perfect state. 

Oh, I almost forgot, I’ll introduce myself: my name is Sophia and I live in La Ceiba, a small coastal town in Honduras and I’m the creator of Eunoia Boutique. The shop was an idea that came to me a year ago (time flies) and here we are, growing and learning as we go. You learn from experience and I’ve learned a lot during the few months I’ve been running this little online shop. So, I decided to take a step further and created this blog, this little space where we can communicate & share together. Also, I wanted a platform where I can voice my ideas and little tips (more like clever fabrications to be honest haha). This place is for everyone, anyone who wants to talk, share or to simply just listen. Welcome. 🌱✨

Buy USED when possible! While it may not be practical to visit thrift stores right now, there are online thrift stores that are always open. 

Check out Depop if you are craving something new! Depop is an app where you can buy and sell clothing, accessories, and more. I use Depop for finding inexpensive, used, and vintage clothing and shoes!

You can also check out: Poshmark, ThredUp, Patagonia Worn Wear, and Ebay.

(I have not used these, so I am not recommending them, only mentioning them for your own use)

If you are trying to get rid of your pre-loved clothes, taking them to a thrift store or selling them on a thrifting app is a much better option than throwing them away.

Five simple steps to an ethical closet. Before you buy new clothing, make sure you love it and need it. Take care of the clothes you have before buying more, and when you do buy more, support sustainable brands! 

One of my favorite sustainable clothing brands is Pact Apparel. All their clothing is made from organic cotton, which consumes less water than conventional cotton. Another brand is Cariloha, which sells bamboo-based clothing.

Duurzame garderobe (II)

Ik ben zo iemand die al het oude weg wil doen als ik aan iets nieuws begin. In dit geval ging dat niet gebeuren. En na een paar minuten werd ook duidelijk dat ik minimalist wardrobe of een capsule wardrobe wel op mijn buik kon schrijven. Een 5-piece French wardrobe al helemaal.

Ik schaam me diep, na een dag met vol bewustzijn bezig te zijn geweest met mijn garderobe. Natuurlijk kan het altijd erger, maar dan was ik waarschijnlijk in een kleine depressie geraakt. Ik begrijp niet waarom ik door de jaren heen ben blijven kopen terwijl ik meer dan genoeg had liggen. En erger nog; dat ik zo gemakkelijk vele kledingstukken achteloos heb weg gedaan. Alsof er geen bloed, zweet en tranen gemoeid zijn geweest met al die, na een paar keer dragen, voor mij alweer nutteloze stukjes stof. 

Hoe graag ik ook alles weg had willen doen en opnieuw had willen beginnen, is dat nu precies het punt waar ik overheen moest. Dat is gelukt vandaag, godzijdank. Na het wegslikken van de frustratie dat een, uit 29 stukken bestaande, minimalistische capsule wardrobe niet voor mij is weggelegd, ging ik in ieder geval aan de slag met een ‘more ethical closet’. (Ik ben gevoelig voor hippe, Engelse termen, heb je het in de gaten?). Wat zoiets betekent als een duurzame garderobe waar netjes en zuinig mee wordt omgegaan gezien de kledingindustrie een van de meest vervuilende industrieën is van dit moment.

Ik heb veel gehad aan het stappenplan van Anuschka Rees. Het eerste waar mijn oog op viel was een quote; ‘Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good!’. (Nou, dat vat zo’n beetje mijn hele leven samen). Enerzijds is het prima dat mijn garderobe nog steeds bestaat uit meer dan 100 stukken en nu, in plaats van 39 kleuren, beperkt is tot 17 kleuren. Anderzijds is het te gek voor woorden dat zo een (over)complete garderobe mij ergens een soort ongelukkig gevoel geeft.

Vanaf nu zal ik leven volgens deze vijf stappen:

1. Leven met het bewustzijn van de waarde van mijn huidige garderobe en bovenal zuinig en netjes omgaan met wat ik heb;

2. Minder kopen en weloverwogen keuzes maken;

3. Goedkope kleding, waarschijnlijk gefabriceerd in sweat shops, links laten liggen;

4. Vaker op zoek naar unieke items in vintage shops etc.;

5. En als 2, 3 en 4 niet lukken, in ieder geval een ecologisch merk kiezen.
