“TRUE THUNDER”
Tattoo concept variations. I'm leaning for just solid black, but I'm playing for it moving into fall leave colors, but I think with my skin it's probably going to work best as a black and white.
Much of my journey for this trip has been following collections and ancient trackways, and looking at the scaled down modern dinosaurs we are living with now. So I sampled some 3 toed Jurassic footprints, with Allosaurus being the largest, Eubrontes gigantes (possibly Dilophosaurus or a close cousin), Ceolophysis, and the last 2 are little ones are modern Corvids, a Crow (Corvus brachyrhynchos), and a Bluejay (Cyanocitta cristata).
I know it's not as chronologically accurate as I would like, but the visual sizing works, and the time period kind of does for the types of rocks around the Connecticut River Valley and Western, Massachusetts, plus I get to use the Eubrontes which is a specific example from that area.
Anyway, I'm thinking of getting it done tomorrow at the smaller scale in the 4th image.

Eubrontes tracks from Connecticut which recent research suggests may not be from a Dilophosaurus-like theropod. From: commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Dinosaur_State_Park_(Rocky_Hill,CT)-_close-up.JPG

To every season turn, turn, turn..... one of my favorite older photos from the @thetrustees Dinosaur Reservation in Holyoke, MA. A bit of Fall #foliage juxtaposed with an 190 million year old #dinosaur footprint preserved in stone. Likely a #Eubrontes, an a see story to the great T-Rex, dinosaur footprints were first discovered here in the Pioneer Valley and can be found in a number of location extending along the Connecticut River Valley. Check out some of our older posts about #PlinyMoody or #EdwardHitchcock to learn more. Note that the reservation itself is closed for the season November 30th, and plan a short walk to explore. The Cliff Walk trail along Mount Tom is very close by and easy to fit both in. #igersnewengland #travelblogger #travelblog (at Dinosaur Footprints Reservation) https://www.instagram.com/p/BomZlSsnU6B/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=bhjbdaimzs17
#Tattoo acquired this morning. I chose to not to the bluejay print in the end as per the advice of my tattoo artist after they said it might get smudgy with those fine details and thin toes, especially after it sets in and fades a bit. I am glad of the way it came out, a truly killer reminder of my trip. #vacation #vacationtattoo #dinosaurs #dinosaurtracks #dinotattoo #prehistoric #jurassic #allosaurus #eubrontes #dilophosaurus #coelophysis #crow #birdsaredinosaurs #naturalhistory (at Holyoke, Massachusetts) https://www.instagram.com/p/B3AnELulxx5/?igshid=9g49p5qfwf2f

Eubrontes
Source: http://www.albany.edu/~jdelano/footpr.html
Eubrontes is an ichnogenes of dinosaur trackway form the Late Triassic and Early Jurassic, and have ben found in France, Poland, Slovakia, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Australia, and the USA. Typically lumped in with the genus Grallator, Eubrontes is still an important and common type of theropod footprint.
Usually they are about 25 to 50 cm long, with three toes and sharp claws. The original describer called the trackmaker a “thick-toed bird” and well, depending on where you stand on the bird political spectrum, he was not wrong. He called them that of a bird and not a dinosaur due to the lack of a dragging tail mark, which, I mean, more testaments to how stubborn people were about dinosaur behavior back in the day. Who knows what we’ll think is ridiculous in a hundred and fifty years?

Dilophosaurus is typically attributed as the trackmaker given its large size; and actually they were the first dinosaur remains found in North America, though they were first called birds. The connection between this footprint and Dilophosaurus was touched upon in the fan favorite documentary When Dinosaurs Roamed America.
