Evening Stream (Kawashima Yuzo & Naruse Mikio, 1960) i'm not sure why the reason for two directors, but the effect is that i'm paying more attention to who was responsible for what rather than the damn movie itself. and it is a good damn movie. i'm saying this mostly blind, going on each director's padt performance, but i think what is best about it is due more to naruse than kawashima - drama, resignation, people silently affected by things in the undercurrents, rather than a youth comedy.
