Wrapped Up In A Rom Com
Chapter 3: Mom?!?!?!?
🏳️🌈 First off, happy pride month. Second, yeah I know it's been months. And I've had this in my draft for months. I'm sorry. Honestly, I've been watching a lot of the Dreamsmp and playing games on my phone and preparing for graduation. So yeah. I'll try to get back to writing but I cant promise anything.
Warnings: some swearing, mentions of leeches used as a medical practice, let me know if I missed any

"There it is." Roman's eyes lit up as he saw the temporary house that had been set up for the group of archeologists to live in as they excavated the site. Virgil smiled slightly. Roman looked really pretty in that moment that he wasn't even going to try and deny that he was looking. He dragged his eyes away from the mummy and sighed. "Now we just have to get inside."
The pair moved up the stairs and Virgil pulled out his key and unlocked the door. "Now, try to stay quiet. Everyone's asleep and I don't know if I'm ready to try to explain this." Virgil paused. "Hell, I don't think I'll ever be ready to explain this to anyone." Virgil and Roman quietly stepped into the house and closed the door behind them. "Sorry, it's a little dark so bear with me."
Suddenly, with a click, a lamp flared on across from them. The two froze. Virgil looked over and pulled in a hiss through his teeth. His boss sat there in an old armchair, his arms crossed and his mouth pulled down in a frown. "Where have you been?"
Virgil's eyes shoot down to the floor. "Uhhhhh." Roman looked back and forth between the two, confusion evident on his face. Virgil attempted to inch his way to his room only to crumble to the floor as he put pressure on his injured ankle.
"Virgil!" Roman dropped to his knees to help catch the other as the other man surged to his feet and rushed to their aid. Roman held Virgil up as the other man kneeled before them.
"What did you do?" The man asked.
Virgil winced. "I fell."
The man paused and raised an eyebrow. "Care to elaborate?"
Virgil bit his lip. "Uh, no. I don't think I do care to elaborate, Logan."
Logan rolled his eyes. "You are ridiculous."
Virgil forced a grin that was really more of a grimace. "What happened is even more ridiculous and you wouldn't believe me so…"
Logan leaned forward and pulled off Virgil's shoe and began to unwrap his ankle to take a look at the injury. "Maybe you shouldn't assume whether or not I would believe you."
"Alright, I went for a walk and fell through the hole of a tomb that is practically completely untouched and I found the burial chamber and then the mummy came to life and now he's here."
Logan paused in his attendance to Virgil's ankle. "You're right, I don't believe you."
Virgil groaned. "Come on, Logan! Look at him, he's real. He was a mummy not even five hours ago!"
Logan huffed. "Honestly, Virgil. That is the most outrageous thing I have ever heard."
"But it's true!"
"He's right, I am a mummy, er, I was a mummy."
"I'm offended. Seriously, if you were going to try and fool me you could at least get a convincing actor."
Roman gasped, outraged. "Excuse you! But I am an absolutely amazing actor!"
"It's not a prank!"
Roman quickly pulled out a statue of himself he had grabbed from his tomb. "Look!" He shoved the statue into Logan's face, nearly knocking the others glasses off.
Logan rolled his eyes but took the statue to look at it better. As he adjusted his glasses, he studied the statue before looking up at Roman. "You do look a little similar but that doesn't prove anything. All it proves is you look similar to him." He inspected the statue some more. He frowned. "This is in incredibly good condition." He glanced at Roman suspiciously. "Did you fake this?"
Virgil groaned and let his head fall back into Roman's chest and whatever Roman was about to respond with just vaporized as his brain short circuited. Guy on chest. Guy on chest. Guy on chest!
"Logan, why can't you just believe me? Why would I make this up? Why would I sit here and make a fool of myself in front of you?" Virgil sighed and ran a hand down his face. "Whatever." He attempted to drag himself up only for Logan to stop him.
"Hey, no. I still have to check your ankle."
The room went silent as Logan checked Virgil's ankle. Roman watched on with curiosity.
"It's still swollen. Maybe you need to get some leeches."
Virgil went rigid and Logan froze. "I'm sorry, What?"
"Wait, do you not use leeches anymore?"
Virgil's nose scrunched in disgust. "No! We've long since moved past that." He shook his head. "I don't even want to begin to think of what else you might possibly suggest for medical problems."
Logan went quiet as he quickly finished inspecting Virgil's ankle and stood up to go grab an ice pack. The archeologist student frowned. His boss was being uncharacteristically silent. Something was up. When the other came back, he kneeled once again and gently pressed the ice to the ankle. Virgil bent forward and held the pack in place as Logan sat back.
"I-" The other began before closing their mouth again. Virgil watched Logan hesitantly as Roman poked at the ice pack.
"It's cold!" The mummy exclaimed.
Logan shook his head."I-" he sighed. "Virgil, I hope you understand how hard it is for me to grasp this or even entertain the possibility of this. But maybe this is real. But, we're going to have to do tests."
"Tests?" Roman asked as his attention shot up to look at the other.
Logan nodded. "Yes, to see if I can find any bit of evidence to support your claims."
"Great, now can I please go to bed, I'm fucking exhausted."
"Of course, I'll see you in the morning."
Logan left and Roman and Virgil were alone once again. The latter huffed before pulling himself up and began limping up the stairs. "Come on, I have a second bed in my room. You can sleep there." Together, they went up to the second floor and down the hall until they reached another flight of stairs. "I'm suddenly regretting choosing the attic as my room," Virgil complained.
Roman followed, eyes wide as he took in the walls around him. It was so different from what he was used to. And that was exciting. But the hallways were nothing compared to Virgil's room. Inside, he found a desk against one wall and two beds. On the desk there was this strange rectangular silver thing that sat flat against the desk and a small container with small tube-like objects sticking out of it. Next to it, a pad of sorts sat. Roman was so absolutely excited to find out what all of these new objects were. It would be his greatest adventure yet. He just knew it!
----------
Virgil dropped his bag by the door as he limped over to his bed and fell face first into the blankets. Roman yelped. "Don't do that! You'll hurt yourself!"
Virgil lifted his head up, confusion spread across his face. "What?" He asked before he remembered what the ancient Egyptians used to sleep on. He let out a laugh. "Oh no! These are soft. There's a bedframe, which would be similar to what you used to sleep on but we added a mattress that's soft and it's better for our bones." The archeologist pushed himself up and patted the bed. "Come on, see for yourself."
Roman set his basket done on the floor and walked over to the other bed curiously. Virgil watched on with amusement. Quickly, the mummy quickly poked the mattress as if it would bite him if he let his finger linger on the object for any longer.
Virgil laughed lightly. "Don't worry, it won't bite."
Roman stuck his tongue out at the other before turning back to the bed once more. He reached forward slowly and pushed his hand into the mattress. Sparkles sprung up in his eyes as he felt the soft blankets. Carefully, he climbed up into the bed noting the lack of pain on his skin that used to come with the bed he once slept in before he died. Tentatively, he bounced. Laughter bubbled up out of his mouth and he looked over at Virgil.
The emo's breath caught in his throat as he caught sight of the Pharaoh's eyes. His dark eyes were overflowing with joy and wonder. He had never seen anything so beautiful. He watched in awe as Roman began bouncing gleefully on his bed, giggles bubbling out into the room. Virgil smiled softly and laid down, perfectly content with watching the greatest treasure from Roman's tomb as he experienced pure joy for the first time in thousands of years.
-------------
If last night was anxiety inducing, it was nothing compared to this morning. While being caught by Logan was unpredictable as his reactions could range from Disappointed Mom™️ to Unhinged Scientist™️, it was nothing compared to how the resident Dad would react. The resident Dad was none other than Patton Crofters, the polar opposite to his husband Logan. He had met both of them in college. Dr. Logan Crofters had been his Archeological professor. He had often stressed his disdain for puns so when Virgil first met Patton, he nearly choked to death when the other introduced himself with a pun. That was when Virgil learned that his professor hated puns except for when his husband made them.
The three had grown close, Patton having proclaimed he was his godfather now. It was an interesting friendship. When the two asked if he wanted to join them on their archeological dig that summer, he had jumped at the chance. He quickly learned that Home Dad Patton was different from Archeological Dig Dad Patton.
Archeological Dig Dad Patton was stricter than at home. He popped up next to Virgil nearly every hour with sunscreen to coat him in and a bottle of water and a snack. He also made sure that Virgil was being very careful when handling anything that could result in him getting hurt if he wasn't careful. Of course Patton was always like that but when at the dig site, Patton was scarily so. And Patton didn't hold back with swear words. Virgil remembered the first time Logan had denied Patton with sunscreen saying that he was busy. Patton had huffed and responded with "Logan Crofters. Stand up right now and put on the fucking sunscreen!" He wasn't sure he had ever seen Logan move so fast.
Virgil had seen what Patton does when upset with someone and it was harsh. He remembered Logan coming into class one day extremely sad because he had upset Patton and his husband had denied any kisses. Needless to say, Virgil was terrified to see what Patton would say after learning about last night.
After waking up that morning, he had just laid in bed and stared at the ceiling silently contemplating whether or not hiding under the bed was a good idea as Roman continued to sleep in the bed beside him. And when Roman woke up around an hour later, he was still laying there.
-------
Roman yawned and stretched his arms as he woke up. Sunlight streamed in through a gap in the curtain. He sat there for a few moments after waking up. The bed was absolutely unbelievable! He had never slept so good! It was so soft and supported his body in a way his old bed never could. If he had had any doubts about living in the future, they were long gone now. Then again, how could anyone have any doubts about the future if there was such a gorgeous man as Virgil to help him adjust to the new century. Speaking of Virgil….
Roman turned to look at the bed beside him to find Virgil already awake. "Virgil!" Roman exclaimed, voice bright as he smiled at the other. "Good morning!"
Virgil did not move. Instead he continued to stare at the ceiling. "How can it be a good morning? Patton is going to kill me when he finds out about last night."
Roman's smile twisted into a confused frown. "Patton? Who's Patton?"
Virgil sighed. "Patton is Logan's husband and resident Dad. Once he finds out I went off on my own AND got hurt, he's probably going to look at me disappointedly and I can not deal with that right now." He pushed himself up only to hiss as pain shot up his ankle.
Roman's eyebrows shot up into his styled bangs and he quickly hopped out of his bed, rushing to Virgil's side.
"Are you okay? Is there anything I can do to help?"
You could carry me to the kitchen, Virgil's mind unhelpfully supplied. He shook his head. No, that is not happening. Pull yourself together, Virgil. "No, I got it." He grimaced as he pushed himself up onto his hands to slide his legs over the side of the bed. Roman watched on anxiously, his hands hovering in the air between them as if awaiting the chance to help the emo. Virgil looked down at his ankle and sucked in a breath through his teeth. "That doesn't look good."
Roman followed the others gaze down to his ankle and winced in sympathy. Virgil's ankle had swollen up again through the night turning it a nice shade of red as a purple bruise stretched across the skin covering the ankle bone. "Are you sure you don't need any help," Roman asked once again. "That looks pretty bad."
"No, I'm sure it's not as bad as it looks." Virgil bit his lip and stood up to prove his point...only to yelp loudly as the pressure caused a strong jolt of pain to shoot up his leg.
"Yeah, I think you should let me help you." Virgil opened his mouth to argue only to freeze. Roman frowned as he heard thumping. "What was that?" The sound quickly became increasingly louder.
"Oh shi-"
"Virgil!!!!! Are you okay?!?!?" The door burst open and a man stood there in dark brown pants with an abundance of pockets, a light blue, loose, cotton shirt and round glasses framing warm hazel eyes. The man's face was scrunched up in worry as their eyes bounced around the room for any immediate signs of danger. Then they landed on Virgil and Roman. The two men remained frozen as the man panted from his run up two flights of stairs. He glanced between the two before his eyes narrowed in on Roman. "Virgil, who is this?" Asked Patton.

Chapter 1
Growing up and figuring out who you are is one of the hardest challenges you can face; Especially as a teenager. You are expected to know what you want your future to look like while you also struggle with grades, family, friends, and all the other things going on in your body. You are no longer a child but also nowhere near grown-up. And the adults in your life will constantly remind you of this. They seem to get to decide when you are old enough to take responsibility and when you are too young to make your own decisions.
And nowhere is this more apparent than in high school.
It is Monday morning and the summer break is over. A small car is driving on the highway with two individuals inside. A father and a son. In the car's backseat, the son, Virgil, shifts his focus from the road to the window, trying to keep himself occupied. The world outside keeps on passing by and the speed is making all buildings, trees, and people look like blurred objects.
Meanwhile, in the driver's seat, the father adjusts the rearview mirror to take a look at his son. Virgil has his head leaned on his palm and is staring out the window, he is wearing his usual striped hoodie, a dark purple t-shirt, and ripped black jeans.
Virgil’s father sights. It’s been two years since the death of his wife and Virgil has been going through a lot. He has lost count of how many times Virgil has had to switch schools because of bullying, and how many times they’d been forced to move because of his old job.
Virgil and his father are new to the city, they recently moved here during the summer break. One of the many reasons for moving was that Virgil's father got a new job and he thought it would be the perfect opportunity to start over.
The light from the sun then bounces off the mirror and reflects onto Virgil. Virgil who is blinded by it turns to see where it came from, only to discover that his dad is looking at him.
Noticing that he’s been caught his dad quickly looks back on the road, embarrassed.
Virgil then sits up and starts to fiddle with his fingers, unable to distract from his thoughts any longer.
'What if I screw up? What if I say something wrong that will make everyone hate me?! Dad would eventually find out and come to the confusion that we'd have to move again. Fuck. Can we even afford to move?! Dad just got a new job. We just got here and now I'm going to end up ruining everything! Why do I always have to be such a pain?!'
Virgil's father tries to call his son's name but Virgil is not responding - being too caught up in his spiraling thoughts.
The car then slows down to a gentle crawl. Virgil's father leans back and gently pats Virgil on his knee. "Hey buddy, how are you holding up?" His touch is enough to snap Virgil out of it.
After a moment's silence, Virgil turns to his dad and shrugs. “I dunno. Fine, I guess…”
“That did not look fine."
“I- I’m just nervous”, Virgil admits, “I don’t want to screw this up.”
"You won't screw anything up." His father's gaze is stern. "You never have and you never will."
Virgil wrinkles his nose and scoffs. 'We all know that's not true'
"Besides everyone is nervous on their first day, you won't be the only one."
"Yeah, but not everyone has anxiety", Virgil mutters to himself.
His father turns his head away, clenching his jaw, not knowing how to respond to that. Instead, they continue to drive in silence.
Virgil is sitting hunched, his body turned away from his dad.
"What I meant to say was… ", his father says, unable to take the silence any longer, "Everyone is starting their freshman year. This is a new school and people have surely matured during the summer. I don't think you have anything to be afraid of."
"I'm not so sure… I mean look at me!" Virgil gestures to himself.
"I am", his father says, "and all I see is a perfectly normal boy."
Virgil snorts. "Yeah right, because a normal boy would totally wear this, put on eyeshadow, and get a crush on other boys!"
"Yes!"
"Normal boys didn't get bullied like me, dad!"
His dad grips the steering wheel so hard that his knuckles turn white. Of course, he knows that Virgil has never been like most kids; He was always a little too sensitive and enjoyed things that most boys didn't. However, all that still doesn't justify how other people treated him.
Yes, his son may not be like the majority but so what!? There is nothing wrong with that.
"We're here…" The car, now in the school's parking lot, comes to a stop. Virgil climbs out of the car and grabs his backpack, he adjusts the large headphones around his neck and shuts the door.
His father scrolls down the car window.
"Love you, stormcloud."
Virgil gives his father a small smile. "Yeah, I know dad.."
He tilts his head, a serious expression on his face. "And promise me that you will begin to stand up for yourself."
"...Yeah...I’ll try...."
The window slowly begins to creep back up. "I'm serious!”, he points to his son, “I need to get to work now, call me if you need anything and please, at least try to make some friends. Okay, kiddo?"
Virgil just nods, not willing to make any promises.
The car then begins to drive away and fade from Virgil's eye view. After it disappears Virgil takes a deep breath as he turns to look at his new school, a dreaded feeling in his stomach.
Ugh! He is so tired of being scared of places like this.
Behind this door, anything could happen. His life could finally change for the better; he could meet new friends and make high school the best years of his life...or….It could be another school filled with bullies making him wish he was never born.
Although... thinking back to his earlier school years, Virgil might think of a way to make people leave him alone. In his previous schools, there were always those kids that nobody dared to mess with. They were confident, took no one’s bullshit, and had, let’s just say...a bad reputation. Not even the worst bullies dared to do anything to them.
With determination in his eyes, Virgil flattens his hair and makes his bangs cover his eyes. He straightens his posture, puts his hands in his pockets, and marches towards the school.
“Friends”, Virgil sneers, “Never had them before so why should I need them now?"
'Besides, who would even want to be friends with someone like me…'
-
"Patton!"
"Yeah, mom?!"
"Could you please come down and help me, sweetie?!"
"Of course! I'll be right there!"
Twenty minutes away from the school, in a nice little cul-de-sac, a boy dressed in a cyan-blue polo shirt and grey cardigan bounces down the stairs and walks into his kitchen.
In the kitchen, his mom is standing and preparing lunch while his siblings, Liam and Fiona, are eating cereal by the kitchen table.
Patton gives his mom a huge smile. "Morning, mom!"
She returns the gesture, "Good morning", she says and puts in three peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in the lunch bags.
Patton looks around, "What did you want help with?"
"Can you take these bags and put them in Fiona and Liam's backpacks."
"Sure thing!"
Patton walks up to his mom, gives her a peck on the cheek, and takes the sandwiches to the backpacks down the hall.
After putting the bags in the backpacks Patton checks to see if his siblings have packed everything; extra clothes; some fruit; a stuffed animal. He just knows they can't bear to be without them.
When he gets back to the kitchen, Fiona and Liam have already put their bowls in the sink and run upstairs to brush their teeth.
Patton is just about to go up and see if they need help when his mom calls for him:
“Patton, honey can I talk to you for a second?” The smile on her face is gone and she is standing with her arms tangled in front of her.
Patton hesitates. Has he done something wrong?
He puts his hands behind his back and twists his body before he makes his way to his mom, eyes looking down at the floor.
She kneels, takes a hold of his hands, and pulls them forward.
"Am I in trouble…?", Patton asks, a lump forming in his throat.
"No, sweetie…", she kisses his forehead, "You're not in trouble. I'm sorry if I made it seem that way."
Patton’s whole body relaxes and he lets out a sigh of relief.
“Your Dad and I have just been talking about something", her smile drops and it turns into a frown. "We are going to be very short on staff at work, both at the hospital and at the residential home. It is going to be very likely that we both need to work overtime. This will affect a lot of things back home, things like picking up Fiona and Liam from school, dropping them off at training, and helping them with their homework." His mom grabs his hand tightly. "I know this isn’t fair - but Dad and I need you to step up and take some more responsibility. Can you do that?“
Patton’s parents both work in service jobs. His dad works as a nurse at the hospital and his mom works at a residential home. It's not the best-paying jobs but they manage to get by and Patton couldn’t be more proud of them and the work that they do.
But there is part of him that is worried about how this will affect school. What if this is going to negatively affect his grades and make him fall behind.
Patton looks at his mom, standing there in her uniform, looking tired and just waiting for an answer. He can’t possibly say something to make her feel bad. He is starting high school right now, he shouldn’t even have any hesitations about this…
A selfless person wouldn't….
Patton puts on his most genuine smile. “Of course. It is about time to practice some...uhh….adultery!”
She snickers.
“I am so proud of you! Continuing to be our happy little boy.”
“That’s me!”, Patton points to himself.
Mom gives him a hug, stands up, and lightly pushes him towards the stairs. “I think it’s time for you to go up and tell your brother and sister that they need to hurry up. The school bus is almost here.”
-
“Beep! Beep! Beep!” Roman groans at the sound of the alarm.
The alarm keeps beeping for a while before he sits up in his bed and turns to the side to shut it off. Roman then quickly yawns and looks at the clock:
It’s 6:50.
School starts at 8:00 so he might as well wake up and get ready. It takes time to look as fabulous as he does every day.
And it's about half an hour's drive from his dad's mansion to the school.
Roman gets out of bed and makes his way to the bathroom. He passes by his brother Remus' room and it's pitch black, he is still fast asleep and snoring loudly.
Roman rolls his eyes and walks up to his brother's bed. He claps his hands and the lights turn on, but Remus just groans. Roman then grabs the covers and pulls them off.
But as the covers come off Roman sees something he wishes he could unsee. "OH MY GOD!", Roman shrieks.
There laying in his bed is Remus; Naked.
Remus stretches out his whole body, sheepishly smiling at Roman. "Morning, Ro. Slept well?"
"Shut up! Where are your clothes?!"
Remus swings his feet off the bed, laughing. "You should know that by now, Roman. I sleep in the buff."
"That is disgusting!" Roman throws a pair of underwear at his brother. "Get dressed."
While Remus puts on the underpants Roman goes to the bathroom to get ready. He locks the door, takes off his pajamas, and gets in the shower.
After washing himself and putting on deodorant, Roman looks at his reflection in the mirror. 'Looking good~'.
He dries his hair, combs it, and finishes it up with some hairspray. And as a final touch, he puts on a light patch of makeup - some baby cream, foundation, and just a small winged eyeliner.
'Wouldn't want dad to make a big deal of it.'
BAM! BAM! BAM!
Roman flinches at the sudden noise. "What the hell Remus?!"
Remus continues to knock on the door."Get out of the bathroom, Ro! It's my turn. You know that there's not enough makeup in the world to improve that mug!"
"WE HAVE THE SAME FACE."
Roman takes his bathrobe and throws the door open. He gives his brother an annoyed glance as they switch places.
He looks at the clock in the hall: 7:15
Shit!!!
Roman ruches back to his room and puts on the clothes he laid out yesterday. After putting on tight-fitted jeans, a white t-shirt, and a red sports-jacket, he runs down the house's marble staircase and into the kitchen.
As Roman enters the kitchen, he sees that his father is in the dining room reading the newspaper with a cup of coffee. Roman hesitates before he fills his bowl with some yogurt and berries, and joins him at the table. His father is wearing his pristine dark blue suit and his suitcase rest beside his chair.
He glances at Roman, eyeing him up and down. “Son.”
“Father.”
Remus arrives just a few minutes later, his hair is wet from the shower and he's putting on socks in a hurry. He's wearing a booger green shirt, black military-printed pants, and a spiked leather jacket. Remus glances at the clock and notices that he has limited time, so he decides to take a banana from the fruit bowl. The atmosphere is uneasy as they all continue to eat their breakfast.
The father then takes a long sip of his coffee before folding his newspaper and leaning down on the table.
“Boys, you are about to move onto the next stage of your lives and I think it’s important that you begin to act your age.” He glares at Roman. “Which starts by quitting your childish hobbies and focusing on something more worthwhile”.
Roman slams his hand on the counter. "But dad!"
"No objections! You are a talented sportsman son, it's about time you quit that girly activity and apply to the school's football team."
He then looks at Remus, who has put the whole banana in his mouth. “And Remus, I don't ask for much, just don't get into a habit of getting into trouble. And please, try not to ruin this family’s reputation…”
“Yes, dad…”, Roman sights.
“Whatever you say, pops” Remus scoffs, why should he care about his family's stupid reputation. It's only a reputation for being boring rich snobs anyway.
Their father straightens his tie, stands up, and grabs his suitcase. "Mr. Sato will drive you to school. I have to get to the airport for my business trip. You’ll be staying with your mom this week, and I’ll see you at the end of the weekend." He puts away his coffee mug and leaves the kitchen without saying anything else to them; no “good luck”, no “have a great day”, or even “I love you”.
Roman can only hope to hear at least a goodbye from his father but knows he is gone the moment the front door slams shut.
The twins then finish their breakfast and step outside, waiting for Mr.Sato to drive the car out of the garage. He opens the door for both of them, respectfully nodding his head to say good morning. Roman returns the gesture.
Mr. Sato is the boy’s personal chauffeur, the one who has taken them to school for most of their lives. Roman really likes Sato, he always listens to him and makes him feel like he can be himself around him. He’s who Roman will turn to when he needs to vent to anyone besides his friends.
Roman’s face lights up as he thinks about them. That’s right, he’ll see his friends today! God, how he’s missed them. Patton’s warm hugs, Logan’s wordplays, their playful banter.
If one thing is certain is that these school years will be just like the rest. Just him, Logan, and Patton. Like it always has been.
Like it always will be.

Fantasy au, eventual prinxiety, prince! Virgil
Note: hey! Sorry I apologise for taking a while to update this, I’ve currently been working on figuring out the plot and the world building, and it’s kinda been making me get behind on writing, not to mention school taking up the majority of my time, but I hope to get out the next 3 chapters soon! This chapter will be kinda on the short side, more of like a breather in between the first and the next chapter, so I hope you don’t mind that. But anyways, enjoy!
———————————
The next few days, were possibly the most dull week Virgil had ever experienced.
Well the good news was that he took a break off from studying, out of spite towards his father’s order, and also for his own sanity.
(It wasn’t really the kind of break Virgil was desperate for when breaking down a few nights ago, but it was something.)
The bad news was that Virgil was up to his own agenda for the rest of the week.
Which would normally seem nice if Virgil had anything to do.
Instead he just lounged around, blasting his eardrums with his barely working earbuds and an iPod (the closest thing he was ever gonna get to an actual phone, or any sort of entertainment).
And miserably fell in and out of sleep all throughout the rest of the week.
Virgil opened his eyes to the blaring red light of his clock in his eyes, reading 5:04 am.
It was the night before he had to start studying again, in which he planned to cramp all his work and studying into one day in order to catch up. No, not the best plan ,but he couldn’t risk looking suspicious.
After all, he was already stretching it with the lack of visits to the study in the recent days of his father being away. So it was important he at least had some energy for tomorrow.
But did his brain cooperate and allow him to have a peaceful night of sleep?
Of course not.
Virgil groaned, sitting up in his bed while rubbing his eyes. He needed something to do, or at least something to keep his mind off of the long never ending list he would have to do only a few hours later.
He scanned the dark room sorely, until his eyes caught the ghostly pale light coming from his bedroom window, and he brightened slightly.
Virgil’s window was practically one of his favourite things. It was the only window he knew of in the castle to even open a sliver. The view showed a corner piece of the castle gardens, the rest being a large castle wall, and the shore far off into the horizon yet still visible. A little taste of freedom.
Sometimes he mourned over it, wishing it wasn’t there at all, so it would no longer taunt him of what it could be like. Other times it was the only thing that could keep him going, a little taste to dream, something that brought him hope when days were especially hard.
He hadn’t had his tranquilities next to the window in a while, with the overload of new textbooks and work to do in recent months, he nearly forgot about it.
Virgil got up and wandered over to his window, and cracked it open, leaning out and breathing in the midnight air.
God he never realised how much he missed it. Virgil smiled, what felt like the first time in months. Letting the chill nip at his nose and sparks fly at his cheeks.
The weather was always just as gloomy as every other aspect of his life. Cloudy and stormy, no sunshine or clear skies ever seemed to exist. But occasionally, the sky will open up to a sea of diamonds, shimmering and quietly twinkling. With a milky white abyss, a returning old friend to Virgil, coming out to look upon the castle in its luminous gaze.
It made Virgil forget, who he was or the life around him, even just for a little bit.
As long as he stayed here, Virgil was free.
He took another deep breath in, smile growing wider at the thrill the cold crisp air brought him, and closed his eyes.
Listening to the crickets down in the garden chatter happily, and the soft flutter of leaves against the breeze like a melody.
The early birds joined in not long after, welcoming the light of a new morning rising from the horizon.

CONVENTIONAL FAMILY? Who’s that?
Chapter 2: Where a bike is nearly stolen and the rivalry begins
Roman Berry’s first thought before crashing against a tree was
‘My father is going to kill me’.
Roman’s first thought after crashing against a tree was
‘Well, at least my bike is in one piece’
Roman Berry had been running late from rehearsals. Usually, he arrived at his house at 3 pm to have lunch with his dad. It was one fo the only times they got to see each other on weekdays, since his father was almost always at work.
Roman knew that most teenagers would probably resent their parents for being busy, but he understood. His father, Logan Berry, was a successful bussinessman but he took the time to always eat lunch with Roman in his spare time. Unlike popular belief, his father thought that ‘Family interactions were an upmost priority. That’s something you teens of today would call ‘a woke take’”
Roman had pleaded to his father that he didn’t try to use slang anymore. Not after the ‘would you please yeet me that glass, roman’ incident. Roman had been practically traumatized.
He carefully picked up his bike, checking it’s conditions. It didn’t look THAT bad to him. Maybe his dad wouldn’t even notice?
Sighing in relief, Roman let go of his bike accidentally and watched as it fell to the pavement. A rock intercepted the fall and left a dent in the otherwise spotless bike.
Behind him, Roman heard a mocking giggle.
Turning his head, the 15 year old came face to face with an 8 year old laughing blatantly at him.
“What are you laughing about?” Roman asked offendedly.
The kid took no time to respond
“You” he said, snorting once again and delving into another round of giggles.
Roman watched umcomfortably as the small kid continued laughing as if Roman was the funniest circus performer in town.
“Hey kid, mind your manners. Wouldn’t want the Dragon Witch to go hunting you” Roman reprimanded, a bit amused himself.
The kid looked at him confused
“Dragon witch?”
Roman smirked internally. But outward, he nodded solemnly
“Yes. The dragon witch. A.. well Dragon witch who casts spells on misbehaving kids like you” he said dramatically, his theater skills definitely shining through.
Roman expected many reactions. He expected a frightened gasp, or maybe a wide eyed look. He also expected the kid blatantly not believing him. He didn’t seem like a naive kid after all.
What he didn’t expect, was a ferocious grin to stretch on the young boy’s face.
“So i’ll get hunted by a witch if I misbehave? Well well well. I should really have strived to be more misbehaving today” he said in a mockingly thoughtful tone “hmm how to be even more misbehaving? I know!”
He stood up and grinned evilly at Roman
“I’ll steal your bike”
And with that, the kid launched himself towards the bike. Roman screamed and began running away from the scarily menacing kid, carrying his bike with him.
It wasn’t until he had been running for about 5 miles that he realized. The kid wasn’t even running after him anymore. There was no trace of him.
Roman grumbled and walked all the way back home, already hating that kid.

Remus proudly walked into his house and headed for the kitchen. There, he saw his dear old dad making dinner.
Janus noticed Remus’ grin immediately.
“What did you do?” Janus deadpanned, cutting right to the chase.
“On nothing. Just went to the park and swung on the swings” Remus innocently answered.
Janus scoffed at that
“If you’re gonna lie to my face, at least make it believable” he said “Now tell me, what 4 year old did you scare now”
Remus’ grin widened at that.
“I didn’t scare a 4 year old. I scared a teenager. He seemed older than Virge!”
As if on cue, Virgil stepped down the stairs
“I heard the words ‘Virge’ and knew you did something. Spill” Virgil said, also cutting to the chase like his dear old dad.
“I terrorized a you”
“A ‘me’?”
“He means a 15 year old, so someone older than you” Janus answered simply, focused on making dinner once again.
Virgil spluttered.
“I’m almost 15” he grumbled “but anyway, who was the kid or whatever?”
Virgil casually took a glass of milk, inspecting it just to check it wasn’t poisoned. One could never be too careful.
“Very dramatic kid. Curly brown hair and like, green eyes.“
Virgil spit out his milk.
“What did you do?” He asked, trying to play it off as casual and failing miserably.
Remus smirked
“Oh you know, threatened to steal his bike after he tried to scare me with some ‘Dragon Witch’ story. He looked really familiar, like that boy you always seem to be bickering with when Dad and I go pick you up. Are you ever gonna ask him out or what?”
Virgil stared wide eyed at Remus. His eyes narrowed into a murderous glare.
“I’m going to KILL YOU” he hollered, beginning to chase the boy across the room as Remus giggled wildly.
Janus rolled his eyes at the two, instead focused on finishing the dinner. SOMEONE had to be the rational one in this family after all. And neither of his kids seemed to posses any braincells.

Janus sighed, watching the shorter male drift to sleep for a moment. Virgil and Remus were like the children he never had, if he was honest. He had taken them in when he was no older than 25, and they were early in their teenage years. They were complete opposites, but he loved them both the same; Remus was loud and obnoxious while Virgil was quiet and usually stuck to the sidelines. He wouldn’t admit it, but he would lay down his own life to keep them safe.
He decided to watch some T.V. to pass the time, situating himself at the sleeping Virgil’s feet. He got just a few hours in when Remus suddenly burst through the door, looking close to tears, making Virgil flinch awake from the noise and Janus jolt in surprise.
“Janus! Someone took Roman!” He cried, tears threatening to spill. “I found this note when I woke up, claiming he was taken to an abandoned office just outside of town,” He said, rushing over to show Janus the note. Janus stood and met him half way, the tears in the younger villains eyes spilling as he tried and failed to stifle his sobs.
Janus took the letter and read through it, eyes widening in confusion and concerned at the same time as he looked up to Remus again. “Wait. So someone took Roman and left you this note?”
Remus nodded his head. “It says if I want him back safely I have to meet them at their base. Alone,” he said, even though Janus read the note himself. “And I’m going,” Remus added, mind clearly made up as he took the note back.
“Now hold on, you can’t just go! Especially alone. We’re all very skilled in combat, we could take them if we all go together,” Janus argued sternly. By now the shouting had woken Virgil, who sat up behind them with a scowl.
“What’s going on?” Virgil asked, rubbing sleep from his eyes. “Who are we fighting?”
“No one, Vee. I’m going to go find Roman,” Remus said, making Janus sigh and punch the bridge of his nose and retort with, “No, you are not going alone.”
Virgil’s eyes widened as he registered the words, instantly alert and standing up already. “He’s missing?” He asked, panic taking over as he hurried over to the other two. “Why?!”
“I don’t know. But I’m going to go save him,” Remus said, wiping his tears away with his sleeve and turning away to walk out. “I thought you would want to know. Wish me luck, I’ll be back,” He said before Janus could open his mouth to argue, sounding more serious and determined than either of the other two had ever heard him. And with that, he was gone.
Janus frowned, sighing in annoyance be he elbowed Virgil. “Follow him. Make sure he and Roman are safe,” he said, tone calm but serious. “I’ll get ready incase we have to rescue him too.”
Virgil nodded and instantly sank into the shadows, leaving Janus alone once again. He had a feeling he knew who took Roman, and he would not lose another friend to that bastard.

Patton dragged Roman into the cell room where Logan was waiting. He tried not to cry or flinch as Logan picked Roman up and threw him into one of the cells without care, though the unconscious man thankfully landed on the cot as opposed to the cement floor.
“Good job, Patton,” Logan said, not sparing him a glance . “Now we wait for Remus to arrive. I’ve already left him a note explaining the situation.” The taller man explained with a hint of a smile, watching Roman lay unconscious in the cell.
“Let’s hope he comes..” Patton said quietly, his voice slightly shaky. He glanced up at his boyfriend, but quickly turned away as Logan spoke again, not wanting to be caught staring. Logan hated staring.
“He will. I know he will,” Logan sounded eerily sure of himself. It made Patton shiver uncomfortably.
Logan turned to walk back to the room where they set up their computers, when Patton stopped him. “Wait, Logan?” He asked quickly, arm stretched out a little before he reeled it back. Logan stopped and looked at Patton. “Yes?” Was Logan’s curt reply, sounding a little more than annoyed. When Patton hesitated, he narrowed his eyes. “What is it, Patton? I’m not going to stand here all day.”
“Can I have… a reward for retrieving Roman?” Patton asked shyly, looking up at him with apprehension and pleading eyes.
Logan scowled and rolled his eyes, a common response to Patton’s questions. “It’s ‘may I’. But yes, come here,” he said, pointing down right in front of himself.
Patton did as instructed, eyes lit up as he practically skipped over to his boyfriend. He looked up at him with a hopeful smile, and that’s when Logan grabbed the back of his head and smashed their lips together almost painfully.
Patton flinched a little, a surge of pain running through his mouth, but his heart fluttered with joy. When he was pulled away from the kiss by the hand still in his hair, he saw Logan give his usual cruel, twisted smile before walking away and leaving him there. Poor Patton didn’t know the difference between an actual kiss and whatever the heck he just got from Logan, so he sighed a genuine wistful, happy sigh as Logan walked out.
He felt much better about how he did now.
~~~
Roman woke with a pounding in his head. It took a moment before he could bare to blink open his eyes, but the first thing he noticed was he was no longer in the ally. In fact, he didn’t know where he was all, which was a little disconcerting to say the least.
It took a minute, but the rest of his senses soon opened up and he smelled rust and mold. He took a good look at his surroundings, realizing that he was in some sort of makeshift cell much to his shock and worry.
He heard voices and closed his eyes on instinct, pretending to still be sleeping.
“—Logan.”
“Yes? What is it?” … “What is it, Patton? I don’t have all day.”
Roman almost gasped at the name. Patton was here too? Where?
“Can I… have a reward for retrieving Roman?” Roman resisted letting his brows draw together in curiosity. Retrieving him?
The other person sighed. “It’s ‘may I’. But yes, come here.”
Roman peaked his eyes open and looked over as subtly as possible, seeing some man kissing who he assumed was Patton. But it didn’t look like a kiss, it looked more like painful lip crushing.
“Patton?” Roman whispered once the other man left. He was desperate to see his face and get some answers. Maybe Patton could help him out of here.
“Roman?” Came a hesitant reply, Patton turning to look at him from the other side of the cell bars almost fearfully.
“Patton, what’s going on?”
“Roman, I’m sorry, but I’m not supposed to talk to you,” Patton said, sounding more guilty than Patton ever should. He watched his former friend open his mouth to say something else, before seeming to think better of it and running out of the room. Roman tried to call out to him, but the door shut with a loud, denying thud, leaving him alone. Or so he thought.
“Is there someone else there?” A voice said. It sounded to come from Romans left, but the lights were switched off before Roman could turn his head. Darkness covered the musty room.
“Yeah..? Who are you?” Roman asked apprehensively, turning his head towards the voice regardless of the dark.
“Remy Picani,” the other person said. “And I’m assuming you’re Roman?”
“Yes... What is this place?” Roman tried to sit up, but quickly found his entire body aches too much to do so.
“Hell is one way to describe it,” Remy said, then gave a dry laugh. “You’ll learn to get used to it though. There’s a few rules you need to know though, if you want to survive.”
Roman gulped. Okay.. Hell is more vague than he was hoping for. “Like… what rules?”
“One, don’t make eye contact. I did that and lost almost all my sight,” he said. Roman shivered at the thought, but Remy continued unknowingly. “Two, don’t cry too loud. You won’t get water for a few days. And three, it’s not a rule but it’s helpful, don’t make too much noise when Logan does his experiments. They hurt more that way.”
Roman stared at where the voice was coming from. “Experiments?” He whispered, stomach dropping.
Suddenly, the light flicked on and the heavy door outside the cell opened and shut again, followed by sharp footsteps that seemed to be getting closer. With the light on, Roman realized the voice he’d been talking to was a man in a cell right beside him, curled in the corner. But Roman was much less worried about that man now.
Roman felt himself shake as his cell door was opened and he was greeted by a man in a white lab coat and dusty blue tie. He gave a dangerously sharp smile to Roman, who watched as none other than Patton pushed some sort of cart behind the other man and rushed away right after without making eye contact with Roman once. The big door slammed shut behind him.
“Who are you?” Roman demanded, whole body going rigid. If he could move, he would be backed far against the wall by now.
“My name is Logan. But you will call me sir during your time here,” he said. “Now, I’m sure my good friend Remy has already told you the rules and some good advice. I advise you to listen to him. He’s been here longer than you and knows what makes me upset and what makes my experiments hurt less,” Logan said, turning to grab something from the cart behind him.
Roman shook his head instantly, scoffing at the idea and sound much less terrified than he was. “No! I’m not calling you sir! And where even am I?! What are you going to do to me, creep?” He snapped.
Logan’s twisted smile fell. “You will if you want to see the light of day again,” He threatened. “Now, you are here because I want your brother. Your brother proved to be too much, so I decided to take you and use you as leverage.” Logan supplied, only glancing back at Roman once as he spoke.
“Why would you want Remus?” Roman asked after a moment of hesitation.
“None of your business. Now, for what I’m going to do, you don’t need to worry. You’ll find out soon enough,” he said with so much nonchalance, it seemed inhuman.
“What the-.. Y-You’re insane!” Roman yelled, heart hammering in his ears as Logan walked closer, a metal bat now in his hands.
The crazed other man just chuckled. “I prefer the term... unique thinking,” he said, stopping just a foot from where Roman lay unmoving on the makeshift bed. “Oh, and do try to keep quiet. Loud noises tend to distress Patton and give Remy a horrible headache,” Logan added, before he lifted the bat up.
~~~
Guilt ate away at his insides with every cry of pain Patton could hear from the other room, where he was curled up under Logan’s desk. He could’ve stopped Logan! Called the cops, told him to stop, anything! But he sat and cowered until the guilt was too much.
After only a few minutes, Patton gained the courage to stand up and walk to the cell room that was echoing with screams. He had to do something. He hadn’t known Logan was going to hurt Roman, or else he wouldn’t have agreed to bring him. He gasped as he was able to see what was being done to a Roman, and ran into Roman’s cell to grab Logan’s wrist before any more damage could be done.
“Logan, stop!” he cried, trying not to look at the terrible state Roman was in. “He did nothing wrong, he doesn’t deserve to be treated this way!”
Logan laughed coldly at him. “You have no power to stop me,” He said, turning to face Patton. The shorter man flinched but made no move to leave or let go of his wrist. “Now go watch for Remus. This doesn’t concern you.” Logan said strictly.
“No! You didn’t tell me you were going to hurt Roman! You said we were just going to keep him to lure Remus!” Patton yelled, glaring up at his boyfriend before freezing.
Yelling was the wrong thing to do however. Patton realized this too late as Logan’s eyes became cold and unforgiving.
“Apologize now, or you will be punished,” Logan hissed, ripping his wrist from Patton’s grip and shoving him back, making Patton fall back against the metal bars of the cell and onto the cold cement floor.
Patton’s breath hitched and he winced as he hit the ground, but despite the paleness of his face he still wasn’t giving up. He looked up at the other pleadingly. “L-Logan, no, please just listen-!”
Logan turned back to Roman. “Fine, no dinner. You will have worse if you do not leave now.” he said decidedly, putting the bat down on the cart to pick something else now.
“Just think about this, please! I—“ Patton was cut off but a loud thudding coming from the ceiling, something that sounded like footsteps. Running footsteps. Hurrying out of Roman’s cell, Patton and Logan looked up to see the ceiling shaking with each thud. Someone was in the vent shafts.
Logan smirked sadistically. “There he is, right on schedule.”
“Who? Is it Remus?” Patton asked, flinching at every bang and moving instinctually closer to Logan.
“Who else would want in?” Logan said, clearly amused. His eyes followed the sounds of thudding. “Of course it’s Remus. He’s so predictable it’s almost not even fun.”
In the cell Roman lifted his head a little with a grunt, listening to their conversation despite how close he was to unconscious. “R.. Remus?” He slurred under his breath, only now hearing the sound of running from above. His eyes widened, hope budding in his chest. “R-Remus! I’m in here!” He yelled as loud as his dry throat would allow.
The assault on the air vent became more frantic at Roman’s voice, the footsteps growing louder. Logan turned to Patton and said something Roman couldn’t catch before he walked away, leaving Patton to take several nervous steps back, waiting for whoever was breaking in to arrive.
One kick to the vent duct and the intruder was in.
Everyone in the room, Remy included, startled as a man dressed in black slid out of the vent and dropped to the floor. To no one's surprise, there stood Remus King, head whipping around before zeroing in on Patton. But everyone jumped again as another black clothed figure dropped down.
“Virgil?” Roman asked, hopefully. His half conscious state had him forgetting that Virgil could travel through shadows, he wouldn’t have to follow Remus through an air vent.
The stranger turned around, only for Roman to see it wasn’t in fact Virgil. But the voice of Remy spoke up again, relief evident in his cracking voice,
“O-Oh my god.. E-Emile!”

Sanders Sides - Hogwarts AU (Part 1)
I’ve wanted to do one of these for a really long time, and it turned out to be way longer than I expected it to be (sorry for posting late, I’m just really lazy). ENJOY!!
Patton
Because he was born to wizard dad and muggle mom, Patton had been anxiously waiting for an owl to arrive at his house when he turned eleven.
He squealed for 10 minutes when it did.
Was proper HYPER while shopping in Diagon Alley, to the point where he almost got lost.
Twice.
Took him almost 14 whole seconds to fall absolutely in love with a beautiful snowy owl, which he (very proudly) named ‘Sparky’.
Despite being totally elated to go, the departure was tough (many tears were shed, both by his parents and himself)
He finds a compartment, which already hosts a bespectacled boy (like himself), same age as Patton.
He knocks on the glass twice, and waves when the boy looks up from his book to him.
Patton slides the door open with a smile. “Hi! I’m Patton”, he says, “Can I sit with you?”
“Yes, you may”, the boy replied, gesturing to the seat across from where he sat.
“What’s your name?”
“Logan Carnell”.
Patton eagerly extends his hand for Logan to shake (’Maybe he’ll be my first friend!’ he thinks)
“Pleased to make your acquaintance,“ Logan says.
“You talk funny, I like it,” Patton giggles.
The door opens again to reveal two boys, one with a good portion of his face scarred, the other slouched behind him.
“This is ideal”, the first one says and drapes himself next to Logan, while the other one doesn’t move from the doorway. “Uhh, Dee, maybe we should ask first or-”. “Oh it’s ok, plenty of space!” Patton smiles, and the boy replies with a small grin of his own and sits next to Patton
Before he could introduce himself to the new comers, the door opens again and four boys scramble in frantically and close the door behind them.
“Remus, what were you thinking?” one says.
“I wasn’t!” the other one (Remus?) snickers
“Excuse me?” Logan says and the two identical boys look like they just realized they were not alone. The other two boys looked just as confused, though Patton could tell they had nothing to do with whatever happened
The (now) eight boys find a way to sit comfortably in the compartment, and upon hearing their story, Patton gasps, “You blew stink bombs in the sixth years’ carriage?!”
“Not just ANY sixth years. They were Ravenclaws! And everyone knows how prissy they get” Remus brags
Everyone laughs except Logan, who closes his book to say “Actually, Ravenclaws are not all irritant. Not what I’ve read.”
Patton tilts his head, “Do you have relatives who were in Ravenclaw, then?”
“Not exactly, I’m adopted. My parents do not possess any magical attributes either. They are, in simpler words, Muggles. But I am positive I shall be sorted in Ravenclaw”. Patton liked his confidence.
“I propose a small game”, one of the twins says, “Let us all introduce ourselves and tell which houses we want to go to, and why.”
Patton thought that was excellent! “Oh yes!” he exclaimed, “I’ll go first?”. With no sign of disagreement from anyone, he smiled and put a hand on his chest.
“Hi everyone! I’m Patton Whitlock and I want to be sorted in Hufflepuff because their common rooms are the nearest to the kitchen and I like my midnight snacks!”
Logan
Seeing an owl fly through the sky with a letter was an uncommon occurrence in Surrey. It was also the highlight of Logan’s eleventh birthday
Luckily, they had nice next door neighbours who saw the owl, and ended up confessing that they weren’t as ‘normal’ as Logan thought
It came to the neighbours having to take out their wands out to prove that magic exists, as Logan kept insisting that ‘it doesn’t make sense’
(A simple transfiguration spells were what changed his mind)
Diagon Alley was exciting yet scary for both Logan and his dads, but they ended up having fun
The trip to Ollivanders’ was…interesting – even if his Papa’s coat had to catch fire before a wand chose him
He almost ended up RAIDING ‘Flourish & Blott’s’ as he insisted he had to learn EVERYTHING there is about the Wizarding World before he left for Hogwarts
“Loganberry, you’ll be doing that your new school!”
“But Dad, I want to be prepared!”
“Listen-“
“Papa, please tell him how it would be better for me”
(‘Papa was always easier to convince than Dad anyway’, he thought)
“Honey, maybe we can get him a few of the books he mentioned?”
(‘YES’)
“Oh alright, but only a few”
They ended up buying 14 thick books, which Logan was doing his best to hold them, with his parents trailing behind, proud of their little genius
Leaving was difficult, and he knew he would miss his dads terribly
But it also meant he’d be exploring a whole new world all by himself, and he was excited
But that didn’t stop him from hugging his Dad and Papa
“I promise I’ll write to you”
“Ok, honey”
“Every week”
“Ok, honey”
Luckily he finds a empty compartment and quickly gets in before some group comes around. He sets down himself in the window and takes out his book from his satchel
Just as he was beginning to truly get engrossed in a particular passage about Centaurs, he heard a knock on the door and a friendly looking boy waving through the glass
He allowed the boy, Patton, to join him as he seemed rather nice and did not expect him to be a disturbance. However he did seem hard to understand at first, and overly eager
“You talk funny”, he said
Logan did not realize he had made a joke. Had he?
Before he could question, two more boys joined the pair, then four became eight and Logan decided to give up trying to read altogether
Honestly, how can eight people even fit?
“Not just any six years. They were Ravenclaws!”. Logan had perked up at that. From what he had learnt so far, he had come to the conclusion that Ravenclaw was the best house that best suited him. He fit all the criteria, his intelligence being his biggest arsenal
“And everyone knows how prissy they get”
Yeah. No. What?
“Actually Ravenclaws are not all that irritant”, he counter-argued “Not from what I’ve read”
When Patton questioned about his blood line and lineage, he got defensive. He had heard enough questions and slurs about his fathers in his old school, and like before, was ready to defend them in front of Patton
However, he was mildly surprised when no rude comment followed
“But I am positive I shall be sorted in Ravenclaw”, he said hoping he didn’t start far from the conversation at hand.
When Patton smiled at his comment, be decided that this fellow visually impaired boy shall be a good friend if given the chance
“I propose a small game”, one of the boys said, who sat next to his twin brother. Logan had decided that they were going to be a handful the moment that barged into the compartment and told about their prank
Patton began ‘the game’, his answer was the most innocent one anyone could’ve given
Patton looked at him next, gesturing at him to continue
“Oh right. Greetings, everyone . I am Logan Carnell and I shall be sorted in Ravenclaw for I believe that I possess the intellect required for anyone to belong to that particular house”
Virgil
Virgil wasn’t exactly disappointed when a letter addressed to him reached his family’s doorstep, but he wasn’t jumping with joy either
Mainly because he knew what would follow.
“My son! Another Slytherin in our family shall only bring more honour!’
Luckily his cousin was a little more understanding
Kind of
"Dee, what if I’m not in Slytherin??”
“Where else would be? Everyone in our family was. Pureblood, Slytherin and Proud”, he said cynically, “I know I am”
“You FIT the criteria Damien!! The qualifications or whatever…” his shoulders slumped as he sat cross-legged on his four poster bed, “I just don’t think I do”.
“You’ll be fine, Vee”
On the day they reached Platform 9 ¾, leaving wasn’t all that hard for him, especially since Damien was with him.
Despite being of the same age, Damien always looked out for Virgil, and in turn Virgil found much needed comfort in his cousin.
Still, the fear of the consequences that may befall him should he not be sorted in Slytherin had him on edge
As Damien led their way through the narrow corridors of the train, they decided to ask if they could settle in the cabin with the two bespectacled boys
Well, Virgil decided; Damien just got in and sat beside the boy clutching a huge book
However, they seemed friendly enough. Especially the bright, blue eyed, bouncy one
Everything seemed fine
Until the additional four boys shuffled in hastily into the compartment, disrupted their little peace
Sensing his discomfort, Damien put a reassuring (and protective) hand on Virgil’s knee, and gave the boys his most scrutinizing gaze, but they were too busy bickering about a 'stink bombs’ to notice and perish under it.
Soon, however, the group fell into a comfortable conversation
One of the boys in the glasses says something about Ravenclaws not being 'prissy’, which got him thinking about his Slytherin problem
He was too busy having an internal existential crisis, he didn’t realize there were six pairs of eyes looking expectantly at him and Damien
Suddenly, the cool September air felt that much warmer
Before he could jump out the open window of the moving train, however, Damien spoke :
“I am Damien Ethel and I’m pretty sure I’ll be in Slytherin, and I have no objections whatsoever, because they have the best common room”
Virgil thinks he heard someone mumble something suspiciously sounding like 'Falsehood’, but before he could think any further, one of the twins spoke
“But isn’t that where all the bad and wicked wizards and witches go?”
That got Virgil defensive, for some reason. “They’re not ALL evil, ummm…”
“Roman”, the twin pointed at himself.
“Right, Roman”, Virgil continued, “Not every one who was evil was in Slytherin. Peter Pettigrew was a Gryffindor, look how that turned out”. Virgil decided to stop there, as everyone staring at him again overwhelmed him.
Roman, however, spoke again, “Well then, which house do you want to be in?”
Virgil couldn’t answer, because he didn’t know what to say
“I don’t know”,he said after a beat, “I was hoping the Hat might make it easier?”
Thankfully, noone pressed on, only nodded
Patton was the one who broke the short silence with his cheery voice, “Well, what’s your name?”
Virgil didn’t realize he forgot to mention
“Oh umm… Virgil… Virgil Fawns”
Roman
Ever since he could remember, Roman had always been a big believer of fairy tales. His favourite past time as a toddler was when he wore his little cape and demanded to be called ‘Prince’ by his parents, who played along (except his twin brother, who just kicked him in the shins and ran away cackling).
Due to his firm faith in the existence of Kings, dragon witches and magic, the letters did not shock him. The only question he had was ‘ HOW is REMUS a wizard?!’
That is, until the Headmistress herself showed up and insisted that she spoke with the boys and then the family as a whole.
(It took Ms. McGonagall twenty minutes to convince Roman that all witches aren’t evil and that there would be no need for him to bring his Sword of Righteousness along with him)
Turns out, magical blood had been passed down from their mothers side, who herself had no idea about it.
A week later, the boys found themselves gawking at the eccentric landscape of Diagon Alley.
Their parents had never seen them so quiet and still, a reaction that lasted for about two minutes.
Next thing they know, each adult is running after an over excited eleven year old
Roman rushes to a window display of a shiny broomstick, which reminded him of the old, evil witches in his books. But something told him that this was something else, something …fun.
“Ro, it says here that first years can’t have their own broomsticks”
That was Roman’s first heartbreak.
Next stop was Madam Malkin’s, where Roman and Remus had to purchase their robes from. As Roman looked around the shop, he saw four different patches, out of which a certain red coloured one stood out for him. The moment he saw the golden lion embroidered on it, he decided that he wants this crest. Fit for a prince.
“Can i get that one, please?” he asked the nice lady attending them.
“Dear, those are for Gryffindors”, she said, and proceeded to explain the houses in the school and how he’ll be sorted by a Hat (a Hat???)
“What if i want to be in Gryffinkdor”
“Gryffindor, darling”, she smiled as she folded a simple and plain Hogwarts robe for Roman
“Yeah that”
“Well, you’d have to be very brave and honourable, every Gryffindor i knew was so daring”, she laughed, “but then again, they were also very - OH DEAR, NO!”
She caught Remus’ hand, which was holding several sewing pins and was dangerously close to his mouth
As his parents apologized for their son (‘We’re so sorry for that, he’s just not afraid of anything!’), Roman pouted at the interruption and shift in attention given. But he felt like he had heard enough.
Which is why, he would not stop talking about Gryffindor and the gorgeous red robes and the lion aboard the train (which was boarded after a very teary manly farewell) to the two other boys in their cabin, Remy and Emile.
“We get it, you want to be sorted in Gryffindor”, Remy said, rolling his eyes
“No, I WILL be sorted there”, Roman puffed his chest, “for it is 'where the brave and- EEK-”
His monologues was cut short by Remus sticking a wet finger in Roman’s ear canal
“Wait, how do we tell you apart?” Emile asked the bickering twins
“Well I have green eyes, like the weird goo that grows on a goblin’s knees, and Roman’s are red like … well blood obviously !” Remus giggled
Emile regretted his question immediately
Just when Roman thought he couldn’t get any angrier at his brother, he heard a loud BOOM sound outside their compartment followed by various screams. However, it was Remus’s laughter which shocked Roman the most
“What did you do?!”
“Oh nothing, just planted a few stink bombs in the Ravenclaw carriage that explodes when someone says 'Apple Cider Jelly’”
Despite his brain going 'who would say apple cider jelly?’ he instead asked “Where did you get them?!”
“I made em myself !”
“Cool…” Remy smirked
“Who, in Merlin’s musty fingernails, is Remus C.?!” Someone said
“You wrote your name on the bombs??”
That’s how they found themselves hiding sharing a cabin with four other boys (and Remus, to his dismay)
“And everyone knows how prissy they get” Remus said and Roman rolls eyes (no you don’t. You didn’t even know Ravenclaw was a thing a few weeks ago)
And then two of them started talking houses and Roman took the opportunity
“I propose a small game!”
He liked Logan’s confidence, even if he spoke big words ('Nerd’ he thought 'Definitely Ravenclaw’)
Patton seemed like the sweetest and warmest of them all ('Hufflepuff, no doubt’, he calculated implicitly)
Damien seemed intimidating, but fun to be around nonetheless. However he clearly answered 'Slytherin’ which made Roman wary
Virgil Fawns, however, intrigued him. All dark and brooding, but confused? That didn’t add up. Roman decided he would be in Slytherin because 'look at that hoodie, I mean, c'mon’
“Well Remy? What about you?” Roman said as he pushed the game forward
“I’m Remy Abberton and I don’t care where I end up”
Roman heard Virgil snicker lightly and smiled himself
“Emile?”
“Hi!” he said, and stood up enthusiastically. “I’m Emile Forrest and I really wanna be in Ravenclaw, because blue’s my favourite colour, and it reminds me of Stitch”
Logan, Roman and Remus where the only ones who nodded in recognition
“Well I-”
“I’m Remus and I’m going in Slytherin because people say I’m scary and because my eyes are green” Remus spoke, interrupting Roman again
“You cannot possibly predict your house upon traits like those, Remus”
“Thank you, nerd” Roman continued, “As I was saying, I am Roman Cicero and I’m going to be in Gryffindor because-”
“That’s where dwell the brave and true, girl, we KNOW, please shut up”, Remy exclaimed
Before Roman could respond with a sarcastic remark, the compartment door opened and a sixth year stood wearing a badge that said 'Prefect’
“Hey, better change into your robes, we’ll be reaching shortly"
