Avenger!reader & Ross’ kids sneaking onto a mission with their parents would look like:
How the heathens managed to find y’all is a mystery of its own. You don’t know how to react first: with praise or with anger.
To paint the picture, you and Ross are undercover in a conjoined mission between the Avengers & CIA. The target in question is someone suspected of harboring a fugitive with intel of the super soldier serum created in Madripoor. After Sam and Bucky had settled the issue in New York, you both were sent to recover the fugitive in a manner lowkey as possible.
What neither you--nor your agencies--could prepare for was your children tracking y'all down.
You may be an Avenger (highly skilled and known to put fear in God themself) but at the end of the day you’re a parent first. So, it is no surprise when you lose your shit on the children who infiltrated the highly classified mission you and your husband were on. "I don't want to hear it." "But we just thought--." "And now I have to hear it."
Like you, Everett was very displeased and had to hold his tongue. You already unleashed your wrath he felt maybe it was a good idea to calm the situation than escalate it further by grilling them. He did, however, make his frustration and disappointment known, "We raised you to know better. What the hell were you thinking?! This is not only dangerous, but illegal!"
Your daughter, who you both know had interest in working for Intelligence, immediately went into explanation mode. The excuse they gave--besides missing y'all and worrying about you both not coming home---was that she and her brother could help in the undercover mission. "How exactly do you plan to do that? You haven't even finished high school." "No, but we're already your kids. How hard is it to play the role of a family?"
For your son, he had always wanted to test out the gadgets he'd made. This was his opportunity, but your concern was someone getting hurt since they had not been tested in a concealed environment. Ross agreed, which only had your son pouting. "But dad, think of how useful they can be?" "Son, we're already expecting to go to jail for even considering letting you both help...but we will be sent to the Raft for allowing you to use those when they have not been approved by the Director."
Several times during the mission you about lost it when your daughter or son scurried off. They'd return with new information, completely shocking you both wondering just how the hell they managed to get it. "Where did you hear this?" "That man told the guy beside him. I pretended to read my book and sat at the table right next to them. They didn't pay me any mind."
At one point you did receive a message from Fury asking why his sources are telling him your son was spotted at y'alls location to which you played dumb and prayed he'd dismiss it. Which he did....cause Fury just wants the job done by any means necessary.
Eventually, after several minutes of going back and forth and deciding not to strangle your kids for being so irresponsible, you eventually agree to their plan. This decision of course came with some ground rules. "You will do as we say--and do not act without permission. The second you do something that results in either of you getting hurt, I will personally be calling the U.S military to get your asses out of here." "Yes ma'am/sir"
By some grace of God, the mission was a success. No one, thankfully, was hurt--except for the associates of the man you and Ross were looking for in a hand-to-hand battle that left your kids speechless from their hiding space. The suspect was contained and transported to the Embassy, you and Ross collected your children and had a dinner involving take out and sodas.
The adrenaline your children experienced was enough to confirm that both wanted to pursue careers in espionage and intelligence. Something you and Everett were concerned about initially, but after seeing them and realizing they were equipped the skills needed to be successful agents/spies, you both accepted the inevitable.
"We did good, didn't we honey?" Ross kissed your temple, clicking his glass with yours as you leaned into his side from your spot watching your kids reenact the fight between you and the bad guys. "We sure did. Who would've thought we'd become a family of spies after all?"

"You're partnering me with Ross?" You asked Fury, confused and a bit frustrated as Everett Ross himself stood beside you in Fury's office.
Everett crossed his arms, scoffing as he gave you a quick glance, "Yeah, I'm not too fond of working with you either."
"Why am I partnered with Ross? He's CIA. He's not even an Avenger. What about Steve?" You asked, placing your hands on your hips as Fury continued to stare at you with a stern frown.
He sighed, clasping his hands together on his desk, "He's on a mission with Barnes and Wilson in Peru."
You pursed your lips as you glanced at the ceiling briefly, "Clint?"
"He's on a break," Fury replied, as you remembered he went to see his family.
"Nat?" You then tried, as you prayed that she was free to go with you instead but Fury shook his head.
"She's on a mission with Banner, Maximoff, and Vision."
Your mind racing, you began to tap your foot, cringing slightly before reluctantly asking, "Tony?"
Fury stared at you before giving you a 'really' look, "Do you really want to go on this mission with Stark?"
You glanced around the room, avoiding both Fury and Ross's gaze, fidgeting awkwardly in your spot as you realized that you had to go with the CIA Agent, "No."
"You're going with Ross," Fury muttered, before sliding a file across his desk, Ross picking it up. "Inside this file includes your hotel information, everything has already been paid for, as well as the location of the gala you both will be attending as a couple, undercover." Your mind was flashing red warning lights as your eyes widened. Fury continued, "You are looking for Dr. Luther Shank. We don't know much about the man, but what we do know is that he may be involved with the Super Soldier Serum. We need you both to get as much information as you can. And after, S.H.I.E.L.D. will handle the rest."
You crossed your arms, glancing over at the file that Everett was flipping through, before looking up at Fury, "Undercover, as a couple? Why couldn't I do this mission alone?"
Fury frowned, crossing his arms and leaning back in his chair as he explained, "Because you're an Avenger and you don't have any field experience with undercover work."
"And Ross does?" You asked, tilting your head to the side.
Fury nodded his head once, "Yes."
You were shaking your head as you said, "There must be someone else who could-"
"That would be a waste of time," Fury interrupted you, "We don't have anyone else available. Now, the gala starts tonight, seven sharp. I'd head to that hotel and get ready if I were you. You're dismissed."
"Yes, sir." You muttered grumpily, following Ross out of Fury's office and heading down the hall with the man.
It was awkward and the tension was thick between you two as you walked quickly along the hallway towards the elevators. Ross was the one who broke the silence once in the elevator, "Do you think you are skilled enough to do this mission?" And to that question, you gave him a look, raising an eyebrow as you pivoted your hip to the side, tilting your head to the side.
You then scoffed, looking away, "I get it, Ross, I don’t want to be a part of this partnership either."
You were lying, you did want to be a part of this. And you did want to be his partner in this undercover mission.
Contrary to belief, you really liked Ross, you really did. You found him funny, sarcastic, intelligent... Handsome. Really handsome. You actually had a few encounters with the man, but sadly, they didn't go too well. It seemed that Everett Ross was pretty stubborn, especially when working with you, or in your presence in general. He rarely worked with Fury on Avenger-like missions, but when he did, and with you, he would be pretty rude. You didn't know why exactly, but he always seemed disinterested or displeased with you around. You really thought that he hated you.
Now, when you first met Everett, he was actually really nice, charming really. He greeted you and shook your hand, smiling. From that moment, you were hooked. You couldn't help but feel attracted to him. But, after the next few times, he seemed to change. You didn't know why he changed, or why he hated you, but it upset you, and it still does. So, you pushed back your feelings for the man and tried to avoid him as much as possible. But, that didn't really seem to work much since you partnered with him most of the time.
You wished that he wasn't so stubborn all the time, because it made life difficult when you needed him to cooperate more. You were also a bit nervous about posing as a couple with him for the mission. You just hoped that everything would go swimmingly.

"Do you know anything about this Dr. Shank?" Ross asked as you both sat on the bed of one of the hotel rooms, the file open and papers scattered before the two of you.
"Only that he's a doctor of chemistry, top of his class of 1986, Harvard. He's a bit famous in the scientific community due to the advancements he has made in his science and engineering career. Rumour has it that he works with a team of scientists called the STING, and they have plans to release an enhanced super serum in order to increase the strength of enhanced individuals." You answered, flipping through pages of paper and scribbling notes down.
"Is all that information correct and legit?" Ross asked, as you looked up from the file and raised your eyebrows at him.
You stared at Ross before letting out a laugh, "'Legit'? What are you? My teacher? Citing my sources? Yes, they are fact-checked and everything. Got my information from Peter."
It was Everett's turn to pause and stop reading the file as he looked up at you, "Peter Parker? Isn't he, what? Sixteen?"
"Yeah." You answered, getting back to writing some more notes, "He's into all that science stuff. He's very reliable. No matter how many times he talks about Alien and Star Wars." You joked lightly, making Everett roll his eyes.
Ross shrugged his shoulders in defeat, putting the file down as he turned to face you, "Well, the gala is in two hours. We should get ready. I'll pick you up in an hour." He spoke, getting off the bed and heading to the door.
"Can't wait, hubby!" You teased, watching as Everett's hand paused on the doorknob, rolling his eyes before leaving the room.
You smiled, pushing yourself off the bed and heading to the closet. Opening it, you stared at the dress hanging there. You hadn't worn a dress in a while, sticking to your bodysuit when on missions or fighting aliens from space. And other than bodysuits, you wore whatever was comfortable for you. Tonight though, you were wearing a dress, and you were sort of excited, maybe. You didn't know how you felt.
Getting ready, you looked at yourself in the mirror, admiring the way the dress looked on you. It was elegant. That was a word for it. It was your favorite color too, that was the one thing that you had to make sure it was. But you felt beautiful, you were glad that you got this chance to wear it, even if only for an evening. As you looked at yourself, fidgeting with the dress, your mind began to wander... Wondering if Everett would like the dress.
You snapped out of your thoughts when you finally heard Ross knocking on your door, you put on your heels and clipped your emergency gun to your thigh just as you opened the door to find Everett standing there, dressed to kill.
He took your breath away.
"Wow." You let out as you examined his outfit and hair; a nice black suit, pressed perfectly, with his hair combed neatly, "Real-life James Bond-ing up in here." You blurted out, feeling a bit anxious as Everett just looked at you. You thought you saw his eyes widen ever-so-slightly, and him giving you a once-over, but you must have been seeing things. A trick of the light. And nerves. And hope.
"Are you ready?" He asked, and you nodded, feeling your mouth dry up a bit as you swallowed. You then watched as he opened his pocket, handing you a silver band. "Here's your ring. I already have mine on. We should head out. Don't want to be late." He finished, seemingly rushed as you quickly slid the ring on your ring finger, feeling your face flush. This was going to be harder than you thought.
~~~
The car ride to the gala was very uncomfortable, and silent. You were trying not to glance at Everett, not wanting to show how affected you were by the situation, by him. You were being forced to go to a dance. With Everett. Dancing. For God knows how long. All night. But, it was for a good reason, you repeat to yourself in your mind, you were stopping a nutty scientist from creating more Super Soldiers.
You stared out the passenger side window, watching the lights of buildings turn into blurry trees. You wanted to say something, anything to break the deafening silence between the two of you. Anything to make the atmosphere less tense. But you didn't. You were afraid of what you would say, or what might happen. Or worse, you would say the wrong thing and annoy the man. He already disliked you, why make it worse?
"We're here." Everett suddenly said, parking the car on the large front lawn of the large mansion with the other fancy cars. He turned off the car, turning to you as you looked over at him, meeting his gaze, "Do you remember our cover names?"
"Frank and Lisa McKinnon. You are a professor of Biology, and I am a Physics professor at Stanford. We met at the 2017 Science Conference in Huston, Texas. We instantly clicked and started dating, married two years later, and are working on our careers together." You responded as you turned your head towards the mansion and started to unbuckle your seatbelt, "We're good, right?" You asked as Everett leaned back into his seat, running a hand across his chin as he sighed heavily, nodding.
"Fine. Let's get out of here." He replied, opening his car door and walking over to your side, opening the door for you. "My lady." He offered his hand to you.
You gave him a look, taking his hand as you stepped out of the car, "You do know that we have to act like we like each other, right?" You asked, looping your arms with his as the two of you walked to the entrance of the mansion.
He nodded, "I do know. But, don't worry, I've done undercover missions before." He tried to reassure you, but it only seemed to make you more nervous. You felt uncomfortable butterflies begin to flutter in your stomach, swirling and swirling as you let out a shaky breath, one that Everett noticed. He paused, stopping right outside the main ballroom, turning to look at you. "We'll be fine. Just breathe, okay?"
You nodded slowly, trying to calm yourself down. You closed your eyes, taking a deep breath before opening your eyes and giving a smile. "This believable?" You asked as Everett gave you a small smile in return, his mind faltering slightly at the sight, finding you amusing.
"Yeah, it's believable."
Heading into the room, you felt a bit anxious, looking at all the people in the room. There were definitely a hundred or more people in the large ballroom. Maybe more. Some were dancing, some talking in small groups, while others were drinking. You noticed that almost everyone was holding a drink in their hands; a glass of bubbling champagne. You tightened your hold on Everett's arm, placing your free hand on top of your hand on Everett's arm since you had no idea what to do with it. Your mind was worrying and racing, wondering if you were doing everything right, or everything wrong.
Moving around the room, Everett grabbed two glasses of champagne, handing you a glass. "Since I have to drive, you can drink."
You took a small sip of the drink, eyeing the people around the room, your mind slowly but surely getting into the Avenger rhythm. "Why get a glass then?" You muttered as Everett leaned over to answer you.
"Blending in. Have you found Shank?" He asked and you hummed, shaking your head slightly, "No, nothing yet."
"Excuse me?" You heard a voice, turning around, you tried to hide your shock and surprise as you found yourself standing in front of Dr. Shank himself. He gave you and Everett an odd smile, creepy, you thought as he offered his hand to Everett. "My name is Dr. Luther Shank, professor of chemistry at MIT." The man spoke, smiling politely, as Everett took the doctor's hand and gave it a firm shake.
"Dr. Frank McKinnon, professor of Biology." He introduced himself before gesturing to you, "And this is my wife, Dr. Lisa, professor of Physics."
Dr. Shank hummed, turning his gaze to you, and offering his hand. "A pleasure to meet you, Dr. Lisa. I must say, Physics is one of my favorite hobbies. Very interesting subject." He complimented, giving you a smile. "Tell me, what is your view on Quantum mechanics and the scale of atoms and subatomic particles?"
"I find the behavior of atoms and subatomic particles to be fascinating! I am especially fond of Einstein's paper where he envisioned light traveling not in waves, but as some manner of energy quanta; completely spinning everything we had known about atoms and light on its axis. I also find Schrödinger's cat experiment to be quite interesting as well..." You rambled, Everett looking at you as if you had grown an extra head as Dr. Shank gave you a large grin.
"Fascinating! Do you believe that loop quantum gravity is a possibility in the near future for the physics community?"
You let out a small giggle, placing a hand on your chest, "Did Issac Newton discover gravity?" You asked playfully.
Dr. Shank let out a laugh, turning to nudge Everett on the shoulder, "My, my, Frank. You better be careful and keep an eye on this one. Someone might steal her away. Or I might." He laughed, as Everett and you forced yourselves to laugh, before he spoke again, "In fact, could I steal her for the next dance?" He asked, and you let go of Everett's arm.
"By all means, just bring her back," Everett spoke jokingly, feigning his friendliness as you gave him a smile.
"I'll be back. Hold my glass, will you?" You asked, handing Everett the champagne glass before pressing a kiss to his cheek.
Everett watched as you walked arm in arm to the dance floor with Dr. Shank, watching as you smiled and began to waltz with the man, laughing at whatever he was saying to you. Everett felt uneasy as he watched you dance with him, dropping the two glasses on a passing tray before pressing his hand on his cheek where you kissed him. It was hard to admit, but Everett had grown a bit fond of you.
He had come to realize that he was starting to care for you, way before this mission, but there wasn't much he could do about it. He had no choice but to watch as you danced with Dr. Shank. Feeling jealousy bubbles inside him as you talk with the scientist, feeling foolish for getting jealous over you dancing and spending time with a man who could be your grandfather. It was stupid. But, Everett pushed those feelings back down, ignoring the feelings, ignoring your laughter over the live band, ignoring how incredibly smart you are, and ignoring the way you looked in that dress.
You swayed and danced along to the music, conversing with the man who was the leader of STING, the one that had the information you needed to put him and many other corrupt scientists away. You didn't know what to say to help you, and you were about to speak when Dr. Shank spoke up instead.
"I must say, Dr. Lisa, I am rather impressed." He began, "You have quite the mind for science."
You smiled, "Well, you must when you are working in the field, learning about the most complex subject in the world."
Dr. Shank nodded eagerly, agreeing, "Of course, I know what you mean. When I first came to the field, I was fascinated by the study of the brain and human beings in general. But recently, I found something incredible." He ranted, his eyes glinting dangerously as he continued, and you weren't going to stop him. "You must have heard of the Super Soldier Serum, being a part of the Scientific Community. I have recently found that there is a gene that can be enhanced and magnify the effects of the Serum. Yes, they will have the same results as Captain America, but more so. They would have ten times the amount of powers that the serum has. And, I'm not the only one working on it. All sorts of scientists are working on ways to enhance it." He spoke in a hushed tone.
You raised your eyebrows, this guy, for being a doctor, was very dumb for telling a practical stranger all this information. The exact information that you were looking for. "Really?" You asked, feigning surprise, "Is that all really possible?"
"Wouldn't it be?" He asked, "From the tests I ran on a few samples from the serum to see if it could be enhanced further, yes. It seems possible." He said, sounding very confident.
You gave a nod, smiling, "Yes. I think that would be a big breakthrough. What exactly do you plan to do with it once it's ready?" You pressed.
"Well... Theoretically. My team and I are going to try and..." He leaned a bit closer to whisper, "And sell it to HYDRA."
You tried to hide your shock, "Interesting. Do you think they'll accept your offer? If you're selling it to them, theoretically, I mean." You let out a small chuckle.
"If we can sell it to them... I wouldn't be surprised if they did." He replied, nodding toward a group of people, "With my help, we can create a world of superhumans. We’ll be unstoppable, able to fight off other countries with ease." He boasted, making you smirk.
You didn't say anything, having all the information you needed. All you needed now was to leave with Everett and report to Fury. As the song came to an end, the dancers turned to the band to applaud, before Dr. Shank turned to you.
"It was lovely meeting you, Dr. Lisa. I hope we run into each other in the future. Maybe we can meet up for coffee and have a discussion on Schrödinger's cat." He spoke, taking your hand and pressing a kiss to your knuckles.
"I would love that."
And at that, Dr. Shank left, finding a friend of his to speak to. You were about to leave the dance floor yourself before you felt a tap on your shoulder. Turning around, Everett stood there, offering his hand out to you. "Would you care for a dance?" He asked, and you paused, pleasantly surprised as you took his hand.
"I'd love to." You softly told him, letting Everett lead you into a soft waltz. You fidgeted with the collar of Everett's suit, feeling a bit nervous as the two of you danced.
It was quiet between the two of you for a moment more before Everett spoke, "So, what did you find out?" He asks softly, his voice no higher than a whisper as his hand on your lower back sends heat waves through you, making you shiver.
"Dr. Shank knows the secret to creating enhanced Super Soldiers." You answered softly, biting your lip lightly as you looked at Everett, trying to ignore how close you were together. How easy it would be to lean forward and press your lips against his, the thought making your stomach flip. You pushed the thought away.
"He just told you? That easily?" Everett asked, surprised, and you nodded.
"Yeah, basically. It wasn't that hard. For a doctor, he's really dumb." You muttered, making Everett smirk slightly at your words.
You both continued to dance, the two of you enjoying the silence for a little longer before Everett spoke up, "I didn't know you were so interested in physics."
Your eyes lit up, as you let out a small chuckle, "Oh, no. Uh, I'm not."
Everett furrowed his eyebrows, tilting his head to the side slightly, confused, "What? Then how did you know so much about the subject?"
"I asked Peter. He's into that stuff, remember?" You let out a small laugh, "I'm only guilty of being able to remember all that information."
"Ah," Everett exclaimed, before glancing to the side briefly, albeit awkwardly. "Uh, I forgot to tell you but... You look beautiful tonight." You felt warmth fill your cheeks as Everett looked at you, slightly nervous himself. "I, uh, really like your dress."
"Thank you." You muttered quietly, proud of thinking that he would like the dress, "That's really sweet of you."
The two of you continued to stare at each other for a few moments, a silent tension falling between the two of you, before Everett spoke up, "I'm sorry about being hard on you sometimes too. I, uh, it's very unprofessional of me and I apologize if I've ever made you feel uncomfortable or upset."
You were almost speechless, "Thank you, Everett. That... That means a lot to me." You muttered, feeling your heart race as Everett looked at you with an unknown look in his eyes; he let out a shaky breath before continuing.
"I... I wanted to also tell you that I actually really admire you." He confessed, your mind slowly drowning out the music and the people around you.
You let out a breath, "Really? I thought you hated me." You raised an eyebrow, smiling slightly.
Everett's eyebrows scrunched back up, as he lightly frowned, "Hated you? No, no, I don't hate you. It's quite the opposite." He simply spoke, before freezing.
You stared at him, his words sinking in slowly as you processed his words, "Oh." You breathed out.
"I... I mean..." Everett began, starting to freak out slightly, "I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable, I'm sorry."
You chuckled slightly, feeling your heart racing and pounding in your chest, "No, it's fine. Really." You reassured him, smiling, "I understand, honestly. I also admire you. I actually like you a lot. More than like really."
"Really?" Everett asked, and you nodded, shrugging a shoulder.
"Really."
Everett gave you a smile, a real, genuine one, before he cleared his throat lightly, "Well, I'll admit that I was a bit jealous when you were dancing with Dr. Shank."
You let out a small laugh, taking your hand off Everett's shoulder to cover your mouth, "Jealous? Of that old man? Everett." You teased playfully, making Everett's cheeks flush, the pink reaching the tips of his ears; moving his eyes to the ground.
"Well, I really wanted to dance with you, and he just left with you and all that..." He glanced at you, before shaking his head, "Forget I said anything, I'm not saying anything else."
You let out a small huff, "No, Evie," You softly spoke, your fingers brushing through the hair on the nape of his neck, goosebumps rising, "I think it's cute."
"Cute?" He looked up at you, his green eyes filled with amusement.
You nodded, "Yeah, cute." You said, giving him another soft smile, causing him to smile, shaking his head. You were something, that's for sure.
"Well, Dr. Lisa. Would you like to go on a date with Dr. Frank sometime after this?" Everett asked, leaning a bit closer to you as you smirked, looping both our arms around his neck as his hands placed themselves on your waist.
"Dr. Lisa would love to go on a date with Dr. Frank." Making you bite your bottom lip, feeling a wave of giddiness flow over you.
"Alright, that settles it then. A date with Dr. Frank it is." Everett declared, and you couldn't stop the large grin that broke out across your face as you pulled Everett closer.
This was perfect. This was everything you hoped it would be. Minus being on a mission, you loved being at a gala, in fancy clothing, dancing with Everett. The atmosphere around you both was romantic, and you enjoyed every moment of it. Every touch, every glance, and every laugh made you feel butterflies inside of you; you couldn't help but smile. You didn't want this night to end. But, like all things do, the night and the gala ended. Hand in hand, you let out a little giggle, swinging the two of your hands, your fingers intertwined as you headed to the car. He opened your door for you, before getting in himself and starting that long drive back to the hotel.
Everett looked over at you, watching you for a moment, completely enamored by you. "What are you looking at?" You asked with a grin, chuckling a little as you glanced over at him.
"Nothing. What makes you think I'm looking at something?" Everett responded, turning his attention back to driving.
"Because, it looked like you were looking at me," You pointed out cheekily, causing Everett to turn towards you.
"I was." He stated simply, his gaze unwavering from yours, making you flush. You let out a quiet giggle before resting your head against the headrest, closing your eyes.
"Just drive, Everett." You sighed, opening your eyes once again.
Everett just chuckled, turning back to the road, "Yes, ma'am."
AUTHOR'S NOTE: I am so sorry this took a while, I really had to think about how I wanted to set this up and the headcanons that I thought would hopefully be good. I don't know if I even did this right, but I like the way I have it. This is my first time making headcanons. I kind of made it into an AU, so most of the events of what happens in the MCU (mostly the Accords), doesn't happen. Hopefully it is to your liking.
WORD COUNT: 1.06K Words
You and Everett met in the CIA before you joined the Avengers, it was there that your relationship started to blossom only after you two had finally trusted each other.
You and Everett had gone on a mission that had really tested your limits of trust.
You were injured in the line of fire and left in a hospital bed for a few days. Everett never once left your side.
After that mission that left you injured the two of you were hard to separate from each other. You had both bonded pretty quickly.
Your established friendship quickly turned into a relationship, and while the two of you weren't afraid to tell anyone you were dating each other you did keep it professional at work.
About a year after you and Everett started dating you joined the Avengers fighting alongside them. With your new job, life was a lot more riskier. But you were able to handle yourself out there, even Everett knew it.
Two years into the relationship Everett got down on one knee after a romantic dinner and popped the question asking you to marry him, you of course said yes. There was no doubt in your mind that you didn't want to spend the rest of your life with Everett and he felt the same way.
Six months later you were married in a small ceremony with your friends, family, and coworkers (the Avengers), as well as Everett's friends, family, and some of his coworkers. It was a beautiful wedding and at the end of the day you were just happy to be with each other regardless of marriage.
During the first year of marriage it was a challenge to always see each other. Sometimes you both would be on missions for months at a time. Sometimes you'd be undercover, or vice versa. But when you could get time off from work and Everett could do the same, those were the nights that made everything worth fighting for.
Five years into your marriage, you find out you're pregnant. At first you're afraid to tell Everett because the two of you were happy as could be and had never really talked about wanting kids. But now that there was a baby involved that was made from Everett there was no way you couldn't give this up.
You called Everett to the Avengers, he showed up after he had gotten off of work. He was so excited to see you given that he had been working on a case for about three weeks. You had everything picked out to tell Everett about the baby on the way.
When he got to the tower you spoiled him with his favorite dinner, dessert and his favorite drink of choice.
After everything had been devoured you gave him a present which contained the announcement. When he opened the box he was shocked at first not entirely sure how to process the news (not because he wasn't happy, just because it was the last thing he was expecting). But his confused face turned into a happy face and you knew he was over the moon excited to have a kid with you.
After you told him, you stopped going out on missions with the Avengers because you wanted to stay safe and keep your baby safe. Everett also agreed with your choice.
Throughout the pregnancy it seemed to be an easy one, but everything changed when you and Everett discovered that you were not only having one kid but you were expecting twins. Both of you were shocked at first and didn't know how to process the information that the doctor had given you and your husband.
But like everything else the two of you worked together to figure it out. As your due date got closer everything started to fall together, you had the baby's room done.
Your hospital bag was ready and you had the clothes that your son and daughter would come home in. The names were picked out and you would announce it to your family after you had given birth to the twins.
When your water broke, everything started to settle and both you and Everett would be parents in less than a few hours. The experience was a painful one but well worth it. Your son was born first, though he did take his time arriving into the world. You told Everett that he was going to be just like you. While your daughter on the other hand came out into the world quickly, you and Everett both knew that she was going to be like him.
Everett had picked his name, he named him Felix Alexander Ross. You had named your daughter Florence Annabelle Ross. Their names seemed to fit them perfectly. And neither you nor Everett couldn't be more happy.
As the kids got older you and Everett noticed that Felix really did take after you and Florence really did take after Everett.
When the twins turned 14 you decided it was time to do smaller missions with the Avengers, mainly staying home because they both wanted to train with you and Everett. They wanted to learn everything and anything that they knew their parents would allow them too.
Everett knew there was no way that neither him nor you would be able to stop your children from fighting alongside them. But when Fury came to you and Everett with the idea of a Young Avengers, you both knew that the twins were going to want to be apart of it.
You both agreed on the condition that the two of you got to help them. You both stayed on the sidelines but you helped make suits for them, create new tech (with Tony's help), and help train them as well if they needed it.
Life was perfect so far, you were both so happy of who the twins had turned out to be while still allowing your guidance and Everett's.
You and Everett would be celebrating your 24th anniversary together and while the two of you tended to stay back you still went on missions together, some dangerous, some not so bad, and sometimes Felix and Florence would tag along and the four of you would fight the bad guys together, it was perfect bliss and one you never ever wanted to let go of.
You had me a Agent Ross. I think 11 or 21 might be good for him, if you’re alright with that
Bro YES. My followers always pull through. I love y’all.
The music in the club is LOUD, and your feet are tired, so you decide to call it a night. Seoul knows how to throw a party, but it’ll catch up to you in the morning.
As you leave, you notice someone following you. A graying man who walks like he owns the place, but has a look in his eyes like he has no idea what he’s doing. He’s been watching you for awhile, so you’re not surprised he’s following close behind, but you’d rather not deal with this right now.
You make a quick turn around a darkened street corner. When the mystery man makes the corner, you grab him, shoving him against the nearest wall. Your knife is at his neck.
“Alright buddy, what is it you want?”
He swallows. You get a closer look at him. Stubble, dark circles under his eyes, slightly disheveled hair.
“There’s a rumor going around,” he says in a low voice, clearly trying to de-escalate, “that you’re the person to ask if someone needs to acquire rare and dangerous objects.”
You bark out a laugh, and release him.
“Well sweetheart, there’s also a rumor going around that you’re an undercover cop.”
He scoffs.
“Lemme guess, CIA? You’re definitely not ATF. Or FBI.” You lean against a light post, looking him up and down.
“What makes you think I’m American?” He challenges, adjusting his collar where your knife was.
“Only an American has your swagger. Plus, this ain’t BBC Sherlock. People don’t get away with administering justice as they see fit. Unless you’re American.”
You can tell he wants to argue. Really bad. But the gears in his head start turning, and he takes another approach.
”My name is Everett Ross.”
He holds his hand out. You shake it.
”Y/N.”
”No last name?”
”Only cops expect a last name. You don’t need it.”
You push off the post, and begin your walk back to your hotel. He follows.
Damn it.
”There a problem, Ross?” You ask over your shoulder.
”You never told me if you‘re the one to ask for rare and dangerous objects.”
He picks up the pace, jogging to walk next to you.
”Go home, American,” you laugh. The audacity.
”I can’t go home until I get some vibranium-”
You come to a screeching halt, and he nearly trips trying to keep pace. You suddenly remember where you know the name Everett Ross from.
Before he can open his mouth again, you hold up your arm, and pull your sleeve down.
”Kimoyo beads…” he whispers, and you nod.
”I would never steal from the Wakandans. If you’re looking for people selling vibranium illegally, try Hong Kong. The hotel called “Duck Palace”.”
He looks a little bewildered still. You sigh.
”If you don’t believe me, ask T’Challa or Shuri the next time you’re in Wakanda. Enjoy your visit to Seoul, Agent Ross.”
Before he can gather his wits, you’re gone.
”Y/N.” He repeats your name to himself. He wants to remember it.
a/n: based off of what I found off of the marvel comics wikia page of Everett Ross
The door to the apartment that you shared with your boyfriend of two years, Everett Ross, swung open. You looked up from your spot on the couch and saw a frazzled looking Everett. His hair was a mess, his shirt was wrinkled, and his tie hung limply around his neck. Oh, and he wasn't wearing any pants. You immediately kept up from the couch and ran to give him a hug. He accepted the hug quickly and held you close. You eventually pulled away and eyed him sympathetically.
"Everett, honey," you sighed. "What happened to your pants?"
Scratching his head and refusing to look at you in the eye, he chuckled nervously.
"Yeah, that's a long story," he mumbled softly. "One I can't wait to tell ya. But first, let me put on some pants."
Attempting to stifle a laugh, you watched him trudge into your shared bedroom. Shaking your head after him, you quickly prepared some tea for him and brought it to the kitchen table. He joined you at the table, (this time wearing pants) and turned slightly pink in embarrassment when you gave him a look saying, "I'm ready".
"So it all started when T'Challa came to visit..."
EARLIER THAT DAY
Everett paced the outside of the airport, anxiously awaiting the arrival of the king of Wakanda. Why T'Challa chose to fly using some airline, was a question Everett did not know the answer to.
"Agent Ross!" a voice exclaimed behind him. Everett wheeled around, coming face to face with T'Challa.
"Your majesty," Everett greeted with a grin, shaking the hand of the king. "It's good to see you again."
Shuri, Nakia, and Okoye came up from behind him. Everett blinked a few times.
"I didn't know you were bringing company," he commented. They all promptly laughed at Everett.
"You should've known that they would've come," T'Challa chuckled. "Now, shall we head out?"
"Yeah, about that..." Everett said, trailing off. "My car was in the shop today so I borrowed Y/N's car. And it only fits two people since I was only expecting you..." he said sheepishly, mentally kicking himself for thinking that T'Challa, the king of Wakanda, would come unaccompanied.
"Well, we'll have to make do with what we got," T'Challa stated. "Lead the way, Agent Ross."
"This is gonna be a long day, isn't it?" Everett thought to himself.
Somehow, your little two-seater convertible was able to fit Everett, a king of Wakanda, his girlfriend, his sister, and a warrior from the Dora Milaje. Sure, they had to cram everyone in the tight space and they may have had to put Shuri on the roof of the car but they didn't get pulled over, much to Everett's relief. On the way to the Avengers facility, they decided to stop for some lunch at a little Chinese restaurant. Everett ordered some lo mein and-
~
"Everett, sweetie just get to the good part," you said, interrupting his story while tapping your foot impatiently. "I don't care about what anyone ordered."
He glanced at you and reddened and rubbed his forehead.
"Yeah, yeah, I'll get there in a second babe," he commented. "Anyways..."
~
THIRTY MINUTES LATER
T'Challa and his entourage quickly devoured their lunch while Everett merely picked at his food. Something bad was going to happen, he just had that feeling. Everett stepped out of the restaurant and began to head back to the car while the Wakandans waited for him to bring the car around. But poor Everett was right. Something bad was about to happen. It started when some street punk started throwing pebbles at Everett from behind and started calling him a "Hobbit." Then "shorty". Then some other things that Everett refused to tell you. Luckily, a police officer was nearby and was able to save Everett from the street punk. As Everett retrieved the Wakandans, he realized that his CIA identification was missing. That street punk had stolen it. T'Challa insisted that they go track the punk and Everett reluctantly agreed. Fortunately for Everett, Shuri was able to track the thief down. Unfortunately for Everett, the thief was at a strip club.
The confrontation ended up in a fight between the thief and some strippers against the Wakandans and Everett. Which somehow resulted in Everett losing his pants.
~
"Wait, so you lost your pants, in a fight, in a strip club, because some 'street punk' stole your identification?" You questioned your boyfriend. He sighed and buried his head in his hands.
"Yes."
You burst into a fit of laughter. He snapped his head up and turned an even darker shade of pink.
"It's not funny Y/N! And that's not even the worst part!"
"Oh, do enlighten me."
"Well then. So we ended up getting arrested..."
~
"I'm gonna be in so much trouble when I get back," Everett grumbled as his mug shot was taken. Somehow, the brawl at the strip club was blamed on himself and the Wakandans, even though they didn't start it.
Thankfully, T'Challa was a king which granted him and everyone else he was with, diplomatic immunity, allowing them to leave the police station without any charges pressed against them. When they arrived at the compound, T'Challa left to discuss matters with Tony Stark while Everett stayed with the rest of the group, making small talk with the Wakandans.
"So," Shuri said with a smirk. "The colonizer doesn't have to be fixed up this time?"
"No," Everett sighed. "But I could use some pants," he said, looking down embarrassed once again. "How's Wakanda doing? No threatening cousins or-"
He was cut off by a sudden rap at the door. Everett scrambled to get it and was greeted by a demon of some kind.
"What the f-"
~
"A demon?!" You exclaimed in shock. Your eyes widened and you grabbed Everett's hand. He squeezed it tightly and gave you a sad smile.
"A demon thing. Anyways, everything went black and the next thing I knew, I was sitting next to Mephisto himself...."
~
"So," Everett coughed. "Why am I here again?" He asked nervously, his voice rising an octave higher. Mephisto sighed in disappointment.
"You're bait for that king of Wacky World." He glanced down at Everett from his throne. "Why don't you have pants?"
Everett quickly explained his misfortune, growing more and more anxious by the minute.
"You say they took your pants," Mephisto scoffed.
"Ah, yes that is accurate."
"So I see."
Everett scratched his head again and twiddled his thumbs. He desperately hoped that T'Challa would come soon.
"I will give you a gift then," Mephisto stated as an attempt to calm the quivering CIA agent. "To make you more...comfortable... while we await T'Challa's return." With the wave of his hand, pants suddenly appeared on Everett.
"Um, thanks?" Everett said awkwardly. "You can't imagine how..." he trailed off, reality hitting him.
" I just sold my soul to the devil for some pants, didn't I?" Everett thought to himself. "Y/N is gonna kill me." He immediately stripped off the devil pants in a panic. But to his dismay, another pair of pants appeared under them. He stripped those off too. And yet, another pair of pants appeared.
"This is kindergarten all over again!" He thought to himself. A flashback of kindergarten bullies pantsing him on the playground haunted his mind. Seeing his frantic mood, Mephisto chuckled loudly. Everett looked up, his eyes wide in fear.
"I only collect the souls of those who are pure and noble. And since you work in Washington D.C., you don't have to worry about that."
Pouting, Everett slumped back into his chair and prayed that T'Challa would come soon.
~
"You thought you sold your soul to the devil for some pants?" You questioned Everett in disbelief.
"Yes," he moaned. You burst into another fit of giggles.
"It's not funny!" He pouted, his lower lip sticking out. He sighed again and gave you a small smile. "Okay, maybe it's a little funny."
He straightened up and continued to speak.
"Anyways, T'Challa came to the rescue and fought Mephisto while I hid behind the chair. We got teleported back here and since the pants technically belonged to Mephisto, they were taken from me and I just wanted to get home so now I'm here and that's why I don't have any pants."
You looked up from your cup of tea and noted that Everett was now an extremely pink color, for his was extremely embarrassed.
"Aw honey, it's okay," you reassured him, pulling him into a hug. "You made it out alive and you're here with me and that's all that matters, okay sweetie?"
"God, I love you Y/N," he mumbled in the crook of your neck.
"But I gotta see if Shuri can get footage of you losing your pants at a strip club brawl," you giggled as you pulled away. "I'm sure she's already found it."
