Mayan cichlid 3-D Fly

I tied up a couple of these today in anticipation of fishing the backcountry Everglades this winter for snook. With colder temperatures snook will swim up into freshwater where they will readily and with abandon feed on Mayan cichlids

Burmese Python attacks Florida Duck Hunter

A duck hunter hunting south of Alligator Alley twice felt something hit his leg. At first he assumed it was a tree branch on the first bump but the second hit made him look down and SE an 11-foot Burmese Python was attacking him. Burmese Pythons are an invasive species to South Florida And are wreaking havoc on the the mammals and birds natural to the Everglades. When the hunter turned to flee the python bit him in the ass. At this point and after the snake let him go he shot the snakes head off with his duck hunting shotgun

Cast and Blast South Florida Style - Sheepshead - fish species # 13

OK - I'll admit I've only caught one sheepshead on fly and that was probably by accident since sheepshead are not easily fooled and are typically caught on bait such as crabs and shrimp. This is a great eating fish but tough to clean with large scales and thick bones. While sheepshead are found in the Everglades year round the really big ones (3-to 5-pounders) show up in Everglades during the winter months of late December, January and February. Best caught on shrimp or pieces of shrimp the fillets of this fish can be tied up in cheese cloth and boiled water seasoned with Zatarans crab boil and taste just like blue crab meat.
