VHSeptember Day 2: Deadtime Stories Mother Never Told You. Evil lurks on Sesame Street.
Direct from the Ministry
Information Please: The Dark Knight
What do 16 Sodiums and a superhero have in common?
Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Batman!!
Alright, so here’s the thing about Batman: he’s a hero, a good guy, a defender of justice, and he’s simultaneously being hunted by the law. It doesn’t matter how many bad guys he brings into custody, he’s still a vigilante and is hunted by the police.
Why is this?
It’s because of how they have twisted his image.
To the news reporters, the police, and especially the higher-ups, Batman is just some punk that’s not following the rules. Because of this, he’s put into a light darker than his angst and is seen as a bad guy himself. Of course, most of the general public knows that he’s good—at least the less fortunate (and those that are not convinced that he caused the bad guys to exist, but that’s just in The Dark Knight Returns).
That’s the thing about the media, though. They twist the truth until it fits their purposes. They take the symbol of justice- in this case, Batman- and twist him into a no-good criminal. Although Batman may be technically working outside of the law to arrest the criminals (by ignoring the politics of red tape and bribes that keep the criminals secure from the cops), he still gives them over to the police along with any evidence they need in order to bring down the force of the law on the deplorable characters of Gotham City.
And this is why we can’t have nice things.
... so this is something that I found years ago because I was bored on a night shift.
It was hours of amusement and talk amongst the lab staff back when I was a chemist.
big kudos to rashard mendenhall!
now, there was a bit in there RE: trade center demolition conspiracy (although, a 3/2010 zogby poll found that 15% thought that was a reasonable theory) but how do you argue with:
"I believe in God. I believe we're ALL his children. And I believe HE is the ONE and ONLY judge."
"For those of you who said you want to see Bin Laden burn in hell ... I ask how would God feel about your heart?"
Art Rooney II, however, sees things a bit differently:
"I have not spoken with Rashard so it is hard to explain or even comprehend what he meant with his recent Twitter comments. The entire Steelers’ organization is very proud of the job our military personnel have done and we can only hope this leads to our troops coming home soon."
what's the question about what he meant exactly? i mean, nothing was unclear. i believe mendenhall has retracted his tweet about the WTC but even that one was pretty clear i thought. but you'll note that mr. rooney was not only referring to the one tweet, he was referring to the "comments" made. i mean, have we really gotten so far off track that saying pretty much exactly what Jesus says about judging others or asking whether God would be happy about one rejoicing in someones death is hard to comprehend? (and, i would like to note, mendenhall said nothing to indicate his opinion on the killing itself, only against people's joyful reaction to it...)
"You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous." - Jesus, Matthew 5:43-45
and for that matter, the troops will not be coming home soon, evil bert is still out there.
seriously, though, since you can't win a war against a tactic (terrorism), or against a non-state (al-qaeda), the troops will not be coming home for a long, long time. besides, what exactly did anything mendenhall say that said ANYTHING against the troops?! [er, nothing]
this is just out of hand. rejoicing in someone's death is not good for your heart and the culture bred in the u.s. that celebrates someone "burning in hell" is what allows the government and its military and other organizations to have killed tens if not hundreds of thousands of innocent lives in its quest for empire and domination. it's time to stand up and reject this path, even if it gets you branded "unpatriotic" or "un-american". those are just labels used to stop all rational discussion, it's name-calling, and the only reason it works is because people are not brave enough to continue talking after they are labelled.
i believe in LOVE and PEACE and FREEDOM and HAPPINESS, not war and death and destruction and submission to my would-be rulers. one day, the tide will turn, and those who support and even rejoice in the death of others and the exercise of pure power will be exposed for what they are.
"Like an unchecked cancer, hate corrodes the personality and eats away its vital unity. Hate destroys a man's sense of values and his objectivity. It causes him to describe the beautiful as ugly and the ugly as beautiful, and to confuse the true with the false and the false with the true." - Martin Luther King, Jr.
"To forgive is not to forget. The merit lies in loving in spite of the vivid knowledge that the one that must be loved is not a friend." - Mohandas Gandhi
