The Mallards dropped the contest against the Allen Americans tonight, losing 4-2 in a heartbreak game.
Pearce Eviston began the scoring for the Flock at 7:40 of the first period. Eviston's goal came on the powerplay from Mario Lamoureux and Kevin Baker. Just under two minutes later Allen goalie Riley Gill slashed Lamoureux. While Lamoureux was on the ground Gill skated over to him and then delivered three quick crosschecks to Lamoureux's head. Mallards goalie Evan Mosher skated towards the center line but stopped before crossing his own blue line; whether he sought to confront Gill or was heading to the bench for the extra attacker is unknown. The only penalty called on Gill was slashing, causing the crowd to voice their displeasure at the officiating loudly.
Paxton Leroux and Tyler Barr dropped the gloves at 12:16 of the opening frame. Barr had signed with the Mallards during the offseason but failed to report to training camp; he found his way onto the Americans' roster at roughly the midseason mark. Sixteen seconds after Leroux's fight Mike Monfredo fought with Gary Steffes. Both fights were met with approval by the crowd as a retaliation for Gill's actions a few minutes prior.
Logan Nelson scored at 13:06 of the first period, Baker and Jeff Lee receiving assists on that goal.
At 2:45 of the middle frame Barr found twine behind Mosher with assistance from Tylor Ludwig and Patrik Valcak, beginning the Texas team's four goal streak. Chad Costello scored at 10:16 of the second from Aaron Gens and Valcak while on the powerplay caused by Jannik Christensen's tripping penalty.
Just over three minutes into the final period Leroux was assessed a five minute fighting penalty and a game misconduct for aggressor after delivering a bone-jarring check to Garrett Clarke at the Allen blue line. The Mallards were shorthanded for five minutes due to that penalty, successfully killing it.
Costello struck again at 9:35, Valcak once again getting an assist as Greger Hanson got the second assist. At 17:50 Kyle Folmer scored unassisted after the puck deflected off a Mallard stick in the crease.
The three stars of the game were
ALN - 13 Costello
ALN - 61 Valcak
QC - 19 Baker
Mosher made 27 saves on 31 shots for Gill's 35 saves on 37 shots.

The Mallards performed a miracle comeback tonight, beating the league leading Fort Wayne Komets 7-5.
Pearce Eviston scored on the powerplay just 2:29 into the first period off assists from Jannik Christensen and Matt Duffy. Four minutes later Todd Fiddler doubled the lead from Evan Haney and Jeff Lee, setting off a scoring frenzy.
Just nine seconds after Fiddler's goal Eric Faille cut the Flock's lead to a single goal with help from Joey Leach and Drew Daniels. Fourteen more seconds would elapse before Gabriel Beaupre was able to tie the game off of assists from Matthew Pistilli and James Martin.
Shawn Szydlowski scored at 14:42 of the first with help from Daniels, giving the Komets their first lead of the night. A minute later Brett Perlini extended Fort Wayne's lead, Pistilli and Beaupre getting credit for the assists.
At 14:29 of the sandwich stanza Christensen assisted Joe Perry in cutting Fort Wayne's lead to a single goal, and less than two minutes later Mario Lamoureux tied the game from Justin Fox. With just over 90 seconds left in the middle frame Szydlowski scored once more to retake the Komets' lead with help from Mike Embach and Daniels.
Todd Fiddler re-tied the game at 6:54 of the final frame from Nick Grasso, and 67 seconds later Eviston scored again with help from Perry and Mike Monfredo to make the score 6-5 Mallards. Fort Wayne pulled their goalie in the final minute, leading to Lamoureux's empty net goal to seal the deal.
The three stars of the game were
QC - 11 Eviston
QC - 24 Fiddler
FW - 27 Szydlowski
Evan Mosher made 33 saves on 38 shots for Roman Will's 22 saves on 28 shots.
