I'm not even on my "I hate Nintendo" shit when I say this, but replaying the older Pokemon games (back when the franchise was still good), I'm not having fun anymore.

I dunno whether I'm burnt out or what, but I keep noticing tons of little flaws that other monster taming franchises just don't have.

Again, this isn't me being all "fuck Gamefreak, fuck Nintendo, fuck Pokemon, rah rah rah" like before. This is me just speaking as me. Once I actually got a taste of something better, what I used to think was awesome slowly turned into shit. All those things that "ripped off" Pokemon wound up being more fun Pokemon than... actual Pokemon.

And I'm left feeling melancholic over it. When even Firered feels like a chore to play anymore, what's left?

These alternatives... are less reliant on RNG. The random encounters don't feel too common. There's not just a bat and a rock in every cave. They either try a new battle system, or actually improve on the one Pokemon established. The stories are well-written. They give more freedom to the player.

And above all, they don't baby the player constantly. They pretty much have every single feature that longtime Pokemon fans have been asking for since the franchise began. And because they're not a big recognizable brand like Pokemon is, they actually try and deliver.

They don't ride on brand recognition alone and just expect people to buy the games, which is something Pokemon has done since generation 6. They don't constantly abandon their fans to pander to the next generation of toddlers. And STILL, people unfairly write them off as plagiarism. That's untrue.
