Standing amongst the rubble of the house where her sister once lay dormant, coming back, ready. She could feel it coming, she could feel the insanity closing in. She screamed, her hands combing through the rubble of the house, there she felt it, an arm, a little arm. Clearing away the debris around her she heard a cough, a splutter. She was alive. “El.. Ella..” Tears streamed down her face. “Ella I miss you, I’m sorry.” Ella pulled her sister against her chest, ignoring the char, the blackness that was consuming her. “No I’m sorry I should have tried sooner.” 

Ella felt it when he life slipped away. She screamed, turning around when she heard someone, her eyes were black, she was gone. There was no happiness or hope in her anymore. “You have two seconds to tell me what you want or I’ll kill you.” Her hands were little fireballs, the darkness was locked around her head like a vice. She didn’t care anymore.

Right place, wrong time || Samantha and Gabriel

If a tree falls in a forest                      and no one is around to hear it...                                                   does it make a sound?

A small girl with tear stained cheeks and reddened eyes. Hair that had fallen from it’s once perfect do and clothes that were creased and torn. Fear was a mask that Samantha could recognise with ease; once on it would glue itself to its host, manifesting, taking hold. When Samantha saw fear paint Sophia’s features for the first time she’d felt dizzy...disturbed. Samantha remembered so clearly the sickness that she felt knowing that her friend was in danger. That they both were plagued by the same demon. 

Samantha could feel a familiar churning sensation in the pit of her stomach as she stared hopelessly at her phone. Text after text and still no response, and each call ringing through to voicemail. Something was wrong, seriously wrong. Sophia was in trouble and there was no way in hell Sammy was going to just sit at home and wait like a good citizen. 

Samantha had been all over the place, asked all manner of people and by this point had many arguments about her safety. She was frantic and at her wits end. Samantha was fast running out of places that Sophia could be and the idea of her being actually at the point of fire was terrifying. 

What if she was passed out somewhere, overcome from the fumes? Samantha needed to find her. So against everyone’s better judgement she headed straight towards the forests. 

Feet pounded against the floor as she ran, making sure to avoid any attention, using the trees for cover. Her hand was placed over her mouth in an attempt to avoid choking on the smoke filled air. 

Samantha’s eyes darted about and she ran until her feet couldn’t keep up with her. Crashing to the ground she felt all of the air knocked out of her. At first she figured she might have tripped. But then her brain caught up with the situation and pain pierced through the young woman. 

She cried out in agony as she looked down the big tree crushing her leg.

Nikki shoved her way through the panicking people her frantic eyes searching for a small blonde. She and Kat had been making their way to the evacuation point when they had gotten separated in the crowd and now she couldn’t find her daughter anywhere. “Have you seen a little blonde girl?” She kept asking people she bumped into. As soon as it had happened she’d called Kayt and knew the other woman would be searching as well but she hadn’t heard back from her and it just caused her panic to rise. “Kat!” She screamed but still didn’t see her daughter anywhere. She pressed her back against a nearby wall and tried to calm herself. Sobs escaped her as she tried to calm down, what was she going to do if she didn’t find Kat, how would she tell Nate, how would she tell the rest of her family. “Please, please, please let me find her safe. Please, God, please.” She begged softly.

“It’s going to be alright! Just follow the officer and she’ll take you to one of the evacuation points!” Gabe called over all of the noise to the young man clutching a child to his chest. The man nodded and moved towards where Gabriel was pointing, Gabe turned to scan the area nearby to make sure there was no one else that needed his help. He turned just in time to see someone trying to get back into the secured area. “Hey! I’m sorry but you can’t come back this way! This area is secure!” After a tedious argument he managed to get the person back to safety and he sank down on a nearby curb to try and catch his breath, not bothering to use his magic to ease his breathing because he couldn’t rely on it at the moment.

Running, running, running, running- It had been a nightmare. She was running through fire, her powers being sucked from her, just as the trees turned to ash and crumbled around her. She woke in her bed , that still felt weird to be in, in her house, on the edge of the woods, to smoke. The smell of it, even the thickness of it in the air wafted through her open window. Panic jutted through her gut. “The forest is on fire,” she thought, hearing screaming. It wasn’t people- it was the trees. Every ounce of her ached.

Tallulah didn’t wait to put clothes on, she fell from her bed in her skimpy white nightie, pulled her jacket over her, and ran from her house. The fire wasn’t hard to figure out the location of. Her feet ached from the pine needles, acorns, pinecones- all of the things she was trampling as she ran. She was sure they were bleeding, but she urged herself on. She was Te-Tini-O-Hakuturi, and she needed to protect her forest. 

The singed forest floor burned at her feet, but only for moments. Her magic pumped through her veins and out her feet in the form of lush grass- marking her footsteps. The sight of the fire stopped her in her tracks. It had eaten away so much of the forest, and still blazed on strong. “No!” She screamed, magic coming through her veins as light. She didn’t even know what she was doing, but she knew she had to do something. She urged her magic to help the trees, make them with stand the flames. Begged them to stay with her. 

“Stay with me, please! I’m trying to protect you!” she screamed out, feeling the fire lick at her clothes.

Love Burns Hotter II Dahlia & Mason

Dahlia stumbled out of the woods, coughing and wheezing and felt someone leading her away from the flames. In a panic she jerked away from the and hit the ground hard, scrapping her hands up further and nearly hitting her head again. She managed to get to her feet and peered blearily around trying to find something or someone familiar to her. A flash of white caught her eye and she sobbed when she saw Ghost not to far away, sitting next to where a man was being loaded into an ambulance and she would recognize those curls anywhere. “M-Mason?” She mumbled stumbling her way over to them, shaking as she walked next to the stretcher. “Mason? Baby?” She said softly, her hands hovering unsurely over him. “Ghost, you found him didn’t you, boy? Did you protect him, Ghost?” She sniffled and tried to stop her tears. “Mason, are you okay?” She looked at the paramedics, her eyes wide and teary. “Can I go with him? Please, can I go with him?”

Zander had gotten off work late. But he was still in a rush. He needed to get to the primary school, where he’d had to move his siblings to. At this point, the word worried didn’t even fit him. He was about to be sick. Usually, he was fun, lighthearted. But right now all he could think about was that fire and the fact that they had had to evacuate. “Look, I’m sorry,” he said as he ran into someone. “I’m sorry. I know I just about went slamming into you. But I just- I need to get to my family at the school and I uh- yeah- uh sorry.”

Lost & Found II Annie & Gabe

Gabriel was silent as he listened to the Chief of Police hand out assignments in dealing with the fire. He glanced over at his father, Haven, and found the older man already watching him; only then did he notice he was rubbing at his chest and then he noticed the panic building up in him. Was it his own? Was it Annie’s? He wasn’t sure all he knew was it felt like it was going to start choking him if he didn’t get a hold of it. He’d jolted awake when he’d smelled the smoke coming from the forest and then his phone started going off as he was called in and he hadn’t gotten a chance to tell her he was being called in. He heard his partner ask if he was alright but he couldn’t look away from his father’s stoic face, his calm eyes; and then the older Mataku was in front of him. “Gabriel.” As always, Haven’s voice was even and calm though Gabe could hear the faint worry and love in his father’s tone. “Dad.” He pressed harder against his chest. “Where’s Annael?” Haven asked him, pressing one hand against his son’s chest to help ease his panic and the tightness in his chest. “Was sleeping when I left, didn’t want to wake her. Should’ve woken her.” He mumbled and Haven pressed a phone into Gabe’s hands. “Call her, have her calm you so you can focus.” He ordered and Gabriel nodded, dialing Annie’s number. Dread filled him, his panicking heightening when she didn’t answer and he turned to his father once more. “She’s not answering. Dad! She’s not answering!” He hissed, his hands trembling, there was a rushing noise in his ears and then his dad was gripping his arms tightly. “Shit.” Haven cursed softly before glancing around and nodding lightly, “alright, go. Go find her and make sure she’s alright.” Gabe didn’t wait for anything else to be said, he just turned on his heel and ran from the precinct. He needed to find his sister, they lived near the forest, near the fire. He needed to find her, make sure she was okay. He paused in his running and closed his eyes taking a deep breath as he tried to focus on using his connection to Annie to try and find where she was. “C’mon, ‘Nael, where are you?”
