Ex-mormon shit
watching my mormon sister’s instagram story should seem sweet to me, (& often it does cause i love seeing my niece) but she’s doing this thing on the IG story, where she says “react to this photo and i will pick my favorite photo of yours and tell you why i love following you” (paraphrased). And i shit you not, literally 80% of the people she’s responding to goes like this “You’re the sweetest, cutest mom, and i love how strong your testimony of the church is.” and i just... can’t. I am not participating in this whole thing obviously, because i don’t have a child, nor am i (any longer) mormon. IDK. am i wrong for thinking that a woman, (or any persons) identity shouldn’t be wrapped up solely in being a Mother/Parent, and being devout in their religion? I mean there were maybe 3 out of about 12 women that my sister posted about, who didn’t have kids, and she didn’t mention “testimony” and whatnot, but to me that isn’t quite enough.. 🤷🏻♀️
Who Knows?
My husband and I are resigned from the LDS church. We have made the decision to keep this from our parents. The reason, both sets of parents are very wrapped up into the LDS religion and it would simply break their heart.
It pisses me off that the LDS religion still has this vine around my neck. I am out of the religion, but I can't seem to even have an honest relationship with my parents and that pisses me off.
I wonder if there are others out there who have resigned the LDS church and feel telling close family members is not really an option?
I also wonder if there are those who have told their families and are they still a part of your life? Are you glad you did? Would you tell them again, or would you have kept quiet about it?
