okay, i love this comic a lot because damn man, the allegories still stand so strong even today. these zealous mutant-only guys are so reminiscent of the manosphere dudebros that are clearly young men misled by gurus who exploit their loneliness, but the fact that dazzler even refuses to find a common ground or humanise these guys and call them out for the bigots they are is SO good. x-song is one of my top ten dazzler comics all time for how they nail this story, sometimes the victim (mutants) can become the oppressor (against inhumans) when you're zealous but you don't realise what you're actually fighting for, and therefore let that zeal be used for fascism instead.
x-song, and let me pull up a bit of pride 2023 too —
dazzler being a lifelong ally, not a superhero, to communities she's not necessarily a part of, people she has no responsibility in any way that regards her — someone who's not a traditional superhero, someone who's not necessarily a part of these people's community, someone who has no personal stakes here — someone who acknowledges that the peak of allyship comes from supporting people you are different from, that diversity is unity, and our very differences should make us each other's allies and supporters? goddamn, this is such a good characterisation of her. and even if you are a part of this community, it's still necessary to be an ally, because not every other member will be someone like you, but you still gotta stand up for them just as much.
