A friend just shared a post on Facebook about how moving to the UK had forced her to use the skills she'd learnt playing Sims for so many years (just without the money cheats!).
It got me thinking about when we moved here and the day we got the keys to our house.
We had moved over here with two and a bit suitcases and a dog. On the day we moved into our place we had added to that a mattress, a small white table, a cheap set of tiny pans and a colander.
On the way to collect the keys I stopped and bought a couple of pillows and a winter duvet and that was it.
The first night we ate pizza on the floor in the cold cause we couldn't figure out how to turn on the fire.
The next day our second-hand fridge and two-seater sofa arrived.
By the end of our first month in the house we had £00.63 between us and a week until payday. It was tight. We were used to it but we didn't want things to be like that any more. The whole reason we moved to the UK was so we weren't struggling to make ends meet.
But it was just that month, thankfully. As soon as we both started working full time - even with the pandemic - we were lucky to be able to kit out the house and now it's home and I love it.
This has been the first time since we moved out of our parents houses that we've been able to decorate our space from scratch and make it truly us, and I'm loving the vibe we've got going on.
