So, I was thinking about something a friend of mine said, trying to shoehorn me into being a nihilist, but, like, fundamentally, I do not believe that the universe doesn't care. I don't believe that it cares, or is indifferent. Why? Because it's not sentient. To ask if it cares is a moot point. The universe is not a living thing; it's not conscious; it has no agency. Therefore, it can't do anything. It just exists. Meaning can only be had when there are living things that can perceive, value, and act. I think it was Shakespeare who said that all the world is a stage, but I believe it is the greater universe that is the largest known stage of our time. And a stage does not and cannot care who plays upon it. Only the people in the audience and on the stage can.
