Ooo, excellent question. I won't go too deep into it because that will be spoilers for the fic, but... general first impression is that the Pop Trolls are a bit... unnatural. An uncanny valley feeling. Pop Trolls are just slightly off

They are unnerving and a bit creepy, and the Pop Trolls know it. If it is good or bad, they can't really decide, but they know they're very different from other Music Trolls

The most accepting tribe would definitely be Funk, as Cooper is fine after living with them for so long, and he talks very warmly and kindly about them. I also think Techno would be cooler with them, in a way. Like, they have moved their tribe because of danger and stuff until they ended up in the Reef (and some of their tribe have unnatural abilities, even if they aren't experimented on)

Country and Classical are more scared, and show it to different degrees, but they could grow close with the traumatized tribe, in time

Rock... well, they clash a lot. Barb has some vendettas against Pop for stupid reasons, Poppy has vendettas against the Rock Trolls for (spoiler) reasons :)

Don't think I should go into their reaction to the Putt Putts... Those Trolls amplify their creepiness on purpose

Not as dynamic poses as I wanted but eh, still looks good I think

Just thought about the absolute misery I’m putting my two favorites through in these two aus, and I feel like an evil puppet master so… this was the result-

(Poppy’s dress is not like her canon dresses, I just felt like doing something different for experiment pop. It’s supposed to be a sort of wrap-around dress in blue and green, with a red belt but yeah, dunno if it worked)

Really wanna work on my experiment au but I have school and work today T^T

I think I'm going to make references for characters and how their powers work

Especially BroZone and Viva, but I also don't want to spoil too much either- (Have been thinking about them a lot cuz of Hanahaki)

But so far I have decided they will have the same OC parents I always have (Birch (a Pop Troll) and Delia (a Rock Troll)), and they're all possession Trolls (reference here), so I'm just deciding on how many spirits they have and how they act

So yeah... expect references for Experiment Pop soon, as it is now the current brainrot (the two last endings of Hanahaki plus Different Beat are not being abandoned, nor is other au ideas I have)

I know I rarely post anything on Tumblr except reblogs, but hear me out.

So I came up with a Trolls au a little while ago, and my friend (who doesn’t use Tumblr) helped me flesh it out. I am better at writing than drawing, so this is gonna be a lot of text.

Experimented on au:

⁃ The Bergens wanted more taste from the pop trolls, so they experimented with them. A lot of different results happened, but it all resulted in pop trolls not really looking like trolls that much anymore.

⁃ Poppy has gas inside her body, like laughing gas. She has these flaps behind her ears that she normally leaves uncovered because every pop troll was immune to the gas. When the flaps are covered for too long it starts seeping out of other holes in her face. If every hole is covered for too long she explodes.

⁃ Branch has possession powers but because of the grey, he can’t remember his power outbursts. He gets possessed by spirits trying to make him happy and colorful, and doesn’t remember it. When he gets his colors again he starts to remember and starts being able to possess others. Possessing others is tiresome and he passes out after a while.

⁃ Cooper gets affected by the powers of pop during his entire life, especially the gas from Poppy. He goes his entire life thinking he is also an experiment, so when he actually meets trolls like him he is kinda shocked.

⁃ The first movie is pop escaping, and getting the time to actually practice their powers. When Chef attacks they actually manage to escape without anyone being taken. (Creek gets fuckin stepped on)

⁃ So the movie would be about Branch having more outbursts of his powers and the snack pack helping him to control it. When he regains his colors he starts being able to possess others. He practices with the snack pack who is happy to help.

⁃ When the world tour happens, everyone is excited to see other trolls.

⁃ Cooper is actually helped by the snack pack to get him ready to find trolls like him. So when he goes off sooner or later the gas effect wears off, and when he meets those weird birds he thinks the gas is back, and when he’s with funk he is very surprised he is not an experiment at all.

⁃ Meanwhile Poppy, Branch, and Biggie sets off to find and help other trolls.

⁃ Poppy keeps her hair down to not release any gas.

⁃ In Symphonyville Pennywhistle is kinda scared but doesn’t say too much about it.

⁃ In Lonesome Flats country is scared, and during the pop medley, they are more scared than annoyed. They throw them in jail for basically being a treat.

⁃ Hickory is kinda scared but learns a little about them.

⁃ Pop is more happy and honest, so he notices that they are fascinated by him.

⁃ The pop trolls also sorta catch on that Hickory is not really country, but they sorta think it’s because of that he is an experiment.

⁃ Biggie leaves before they meet funk.

⁃ When they meet funk, Cooper has been thinking he fantasized everything but seeing Poppy and Branch reminds him it’s very real.

⁃ Funk shows that they are scared of the pop trolls more than the country trolls, but they remain rational since Cooper is fine even if he lived with them for so long.

⁃ When they learn the true story they are more indifferent to it and don’t mention uniting the tribes against rock.

⁃ When rock attack they get separated, and Poppy and Branch has a fight.

⁃ They separate and Branch gets found by k-pop and reggaeton. He kinda freaks for a moment but then k-pop and reggaeton start fighting and he uses his powers to take control of everyone except Wani and Tresillo. When he speaks he also speaks through the others’ mouths, scaring Wani and Tresillo. He actually resolves it tho, mainly because it’s tiresome to control 6 people and he doesn’t see a reason as to why he should control them when that’s what he tries to stop Barb from doing.

⁃ Meanwhile Poppy is worried about Branch and the fact her gas is building up.

⁃ When the yodelers reveal themselves she feels sad and betrayed there’s really no one like them.

⁃ When rock arrives she has so much built-up gas she has to start shutting her mouth, so Barb kinda just takes it as compliance.

⁃ “This is who I have been afraid of? This little freak?”

⁃ Poppy can’t respond or she will send gas at Barb and Poppy realized that it was her only weapon.

⁃ So at the rock concert, everyone is more scared of pop and not rock, except rock who is focusing on themselves.

⁃ When the concert starts Branch arrives, but no pop troll is really scared of being turned into a zombie. (They are actually immune in a way because of the experiments, but no one knows that.)

⁃ And then the pink smoke starts seeping out of Poppy’s cell. She performs “Hallucinate” by Dua Lipa and the sequence is like a 2010 music video but with the leaders too.

⁃ Everyone is having a laughing fit because of the gas, it’s like they’re trapped inside the laughter.

⁃ Then when all the pent up gas is gone and the song is over she offers to actually talk leader to leaders.

I don’t know what all of the pop experiment things are gonna be, so feel free to make your own and tag me. Also this was long

Yesterday I posted about my experimented on au, and today I have written down a few of the different varieties of pop trolls.

(PS: Thanks to this comment I managed to make more different varieties, but I am open to suggestions.)

Different types of experiment trolls:

Laughing gas trolls: These trolls was made out of the royal ones. They have a laughing gas inside their body which goes out of two flaps behind their ears, similar to gills. If these flaps are covered then the gas will build up and start coming out of the mouth and eyes. (These are the only holes the gas goes out of.) If all the holes are covered for too long, the troll will explode. The gas does not effect other pop trolls, but it does effect Bergens and other trolls. The gas is similar to laughing gas but even more intense. The gas also gets more powerful when the troll sings or dance, as they are letting more happy emotions out. // Example(s): Poppy and Peppy

Possession trolls: These trolls can take control of another trolls mind and body with enough training. They tend to have a constant tired look and are easily aggravated. They also are the only ones who have any contact with spirits as the spirits are helping links between minds. If the possession troll loses their colors the spirits will try to possess them to regain the colors, this normally ends with memory loss for the possession troll. You will know a troll is possessed if they have a streak in their hair with the same color as the possession troll, and their eyes become glossy and dull, like they are not the ones looking out of them. A too long possession makes the possession troll faint, and in worst case scenarios the troll they possessed loses their personality, becoming an empty shell. // Example(s): Branch

Glitter trolls: Similar to canon, but they also have to ability to actually explode into glitter and regenerate. The more they explode, it takes longer to regenerate, until they are unable to regenerate. The glitter gets built inside the body, so wherever they go there’s glitter and whatever they touch has glitter on it. They also still have the auto tune voice as in canon. // Example(s): Guy and Tiny Diamond

Speaker/Gem belly button troll: They have speakers built into their head, so they can control volume and speed of what they are saying/singing. Very few also has the ability to copy other trolls voices. With enough training, as it hurts to speak too loud for too long, they can also make sound blasts. // Example(s): Dj Suki

Rubber gummy candy trolls: These trolls have a wide variety. They can stretch to become taller or smaller, stretch just specific parts of their body, or have the consistency of a bouncy ball. This is the most variety in one kind of pop trolls, as they were the ones experimented first and have had a few generations to make it a bigger part of their dna. // Example(s): Smidge (becomes big or small), Legsly (stretches body parts, similar to canon, but this time it’s all the body parts), and Biggie (rubber ball consistency, including the fact he is a giant troll, makes him a perfect trampoline for his friends (he says it tickles))

Jelly filled mix match trolls: These trolls are filled with a jelly like substance and can switch body parts. As long as they don’t bleed out they can switch whichever body parts they want, even with each other. This often leads to people walking around with another troll’s body part, especially if they are in a relationship like friends or partners. // No current example

Rock candy trolls: A mix between speaker trolls and glitter trolls are made of rock candy. They start out normal, then they grow more and more candy around their body until they are completely candy. This is not painful for the troll, even if they after a while is not capable of moving if the candy is left unattended. You can chip off pieces of the candy without being harmed as long as you don’t harm the main spot, which looks like a gem. The gem can be at different places on their body, and all rock candy trolls get the gem before they are 2 years old. // No current example

So that’s a few different variants of experiment pop trolls. The jelly/body mixing one was my friend’s idea. The offer is still open to make your own version and tag me

Experimented on pop tribe

With the experiments pop trolls changed drastically. Physically they changed depending on their powers, and of course they changed with having new powers.

But they also changed a bit mentally. Their emotions were amplified so when they for example felt happy it was to the extreme. These changes were made as happiness was the reason Bergens ate trolls. ‘A happy troll is a tasty troll.’

Now all the emotions were affected by this change, not just the positive ones. Every emotion is stronger to them, but pop music is expected to be happy so pop trolls are good at hiding bad emotions.

Pop trolls are also more aggressive in behavior. More aggressive hugs, singing and dancing is wilder, that kind of stuff. This also means they would go to a full war if they knew what Barb was trying to do. They might not like that it is because of their music they were experimented on, but it’s still their music and no one is taking that from them.

Turning grey is very uncommon for pop trolls, as they focus so much on happiness. When a troll turns grey it reverses the power the troll has. Branch is a possession troll, so he gets possessed by spirits instead of possessing others with the help of the spirits.

Powers are something you have to train to control. Parents also don’t always know what kind of power the kid will get, as mutations might happen. This does not discourage trolls from expressing their powers and they get the help they need with their powers.
