There has been this tidal wave of youth culture building up for quite some time and you can finally see how it manifesting outside the shows, especially in Paris. It was great to see a diverse landscape during NYFW but after Paris fashion week, it does feel that fashion is becoming much more of an inclusive space. Yes I know, there have always been fashion enthusiasts outside the shows but you can sense certain barriers have been broken down in the last while and there’s this overall liberating feeling happening in fashion where the kids are showing up and turning it out. It’s a fuck the system mentality and it is awe inspiring to watch. There’s a genuine authenticity in how kids can express their individuality today and I truly think this is what will propel fashion forward. The misfits, freaks, outsiders or whatever you want to call them, they’ve always been the first to be bold and audacious and I love how they’re feeling empowered to be unapologetically themselves.
