Alright, we’ve got another new meltdown prevention strategy to share with you!
Remember that post about putting the anxious thoughts in a mental box in my head and then working through the anxious feelings one thing at a time.
Turns out, if you have a disorganized brain for everything except fanfic writing and art, that doesn’t work! Instead of working through one thing at a time, my brain tries to do everything all at once! It can’t choose!
So now…the anxiety box has been externalized!
Whenever a major anxiety provoking event or task pops up, we’ll add a folded sticky note to this box. (Color coded sticky notes for Chippies too!)
As I start to feel like I’m getting closer and closer to a meltdown, I will take the sticky notes out of the box one at a time and work through the things.
And, you know, sometimes simply knowing WHY you’re overwhelmed helps you clear the mental block needed to do stuff.
I have high hopes that this will work. Externalized systems fair much better than internal ones.
