Did you ever watch Gilmore Girls? I have never watched the entire series of Gilmore girls. I know how it ends, I’ve seen a year in the life (which ugh) and I know Rory is just a product of her environment. -- I say all this to say my stepdaughter is in town. Being a step mom isn’t easy, for me being a stepmom was harder because I don’t have the material instincts that a women who has given birth to a child has. Anyway, growing up I always wanted to have with my own daughter the sarcasm of Rosanne, the Grace of Cory’s mom from (Boy meets world) and the friendship that Lorelei and Rory had in Gilmore girls (S1-3)... I think yesterday was the day that I started to evolve from mere friend to mom and honestly it feels good. I thought about my stepdaughter's feelings, I cared for her in a way I knew she would want to be cared and we just hung out like friends. It feels good and I am proud of myself.
At this moment, I am a raging ball of stress. In the grand scheme of things, there’s a multitude of reasons for this. None of them are terribly important to normal people but I can’t seem to shake it.
1. My daughter’s birthday is right around the corner and I am not prepared for this party. I know it’s only family coming but I’m a crazy person and what you would categorize as an “extra” mom.…
Close up of my nails in the #extramom photo! It’s @zoyanailpolish Storm that’s been matted with @lucky13lacquer We’re All Matte Here and then the shiny accents are done with @supernatural_lacquer No Spoilers topcoat. Design was freehanded with a brush! (at Davis, California)
Do your possibly have any more extramom!AU stories under your belt? The two in your writing tags were some good reads
I’m so glad you liked the scenes! :D I’m trying to write a full fic, a long one-shot, and hopefully I’ll finish it soon.
Because I’m flattered and like showing off, here’s the tentative intro:

It wasn’t until almost a half year of living with the Crystal Gems that Steven realized Fluorite was actually the fusion of Peridot and Amethyst.
He had seen Fluorite around, even when he was younger and still living with his dad. A tall Gem with four arms and four eyes, a gradient of purple to green, in town sometimes; in the arcade, on the docks, hanging out with his dad’s old friend Vidalia. Then at the temple occasionally, usually warping in, or cooking in the kitchen, or sleeping on the temple’s head.
“Steven Quartz Universe,” Fluorite had said grinning, the first time they were able to talk face to face, just the two of them in the living room area. Steven hadn’t known what fusion was then. “We finally formally meet.”
“Are you a Crystal Gem too?” He had asked, just to make sure, even if he was 99% certain.
“I’ve got the star, don’t I?” And she did, on her knees and back.
“I don’t see you around often.” Steven said, then gasped. “Is it because you have secret missions?”
“If they are secret, then you know you won’t get an answer.” She shrugged. “I just pop up whenever. If you ever really want to see me, just ask Amethyst and Peridot.”
She laughed, joyful and loud, then ruffled his hair affectionately. Steven smiled, just happy that Fluorite was happy. He followed her as she went to the refrigerator, asking questions about what having four arms was like, if having four eyes made the world look bigger. As she took out two onions and ate them, she answered that it was easier to reach and scratch itches in hard places, and she only wished she had a bunch more eyes to see a full 360 degrees.
“I’ll see you around, Steven Quartz Universe.” She gave him a lazy wave goodbye, leaving the house and entering the Temple.
In retrospect, he really should have known once he learned what fusion was. Amethyst and Peridot was never around when Fluorite appeared. She had extra limbs and eyes like the other fusions.
But everything was so new and he had so much to learn, that Steven just assume it was regular Gem stuff. Pearl and Garnet treated her like any other teammate (though Pearl always seemed a bit more on edge). She was just another member of the family.
The Crystal Gems.

Amethyst and Peridot were almost always together. Best buds, partners in crime, “Those two”, as Pearl often called them, in varying levels of annoyance. Before, ever since he could remember, often just the two of them visiting him and his dad for those monthly health check-ups, then playing with him. Now, hogging his TV and video games, taking naps on the couch, making messes around the house, testing experiments on the beach - No matter what one was doing, the other was usually next her.
Peridot was serious and precise, Amethyst was fun and carefree. Amethyst teased her a lot, and though Peridot would grumble and yell, she put up with it. Peridot wasn’t the best fighter on the battlefield, and it was Amethyst who was there to watch over her.
Barring Steven, they were the youngest of the Gems, the smallest. Sometimes, it was like they teamed up together just to be against Pearl and Garnet. Loud, defiant, troublemaking, decision vote tying, they start up the arguments, backing each other up, though it would end when Garnet firmly put her foot down.
They were an old act.

Kinda like some of the MomSwap AU fics I’ve read, it recounts the AU version of events of the show, but narrated by Steven as he discovers the depth of the bond between these two of his moms, tying into his intro to Gem history. At least, that’s my intention.
