You've probably heard at least part of this quote from Shakespeare's Macbeth:
“Eye of newt, and toe of frog, Wool of bat, and tongue of dog, Adder's fork, and blind-worm's sting, Lizard's leg, and owlet's wing,— For a charm of powerful trouble, Like a hell-broth boil and bubble. Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn, and caldron bubble.”
But did you know that most of these terms were not literal? Eye of newt, for example, just means mustard seed. Shakespeare's witches weren't brewing up an unholy mixture of animal parts, but simple plants!
Ok real talk though, what kind of eye of newt do witches use? Like is it a specific species of newt, or will any old newt work? Would potency vary, hell would effect vary?
Is it like blood and you can only use the eye of the same newt once, so if the spell calls for a single eye, and you try and use the other for another spell, only for that spell to fail since it's technically not a "virgin" eye? Would offspring of that newt's eyes work?
Are they ecologically sourced and harvested? Is captive bred better or worse than wild caught? Does that in turn affect the potion or spell? Would their quality of eye be affected by their quality of life? Would point of harvesting (pre/postmortem?) change their properties?
When a ritual calls for eye of newt, does the form it comes in matter? Whole, diced, dried, ground into a powder? Is it okay to preserve them? How long is too long to keep them? I assume fresh is best but what if 100 year old eyes are better?
And what exactly do they do?? Why would a protection spell need it when a scrying spell also needs it, but a ritual of sight or shielding doesn't? Is it like a reagent or a binding component?
THIS IS WHY I CAN'T BE A WITCH
A Christmas Horror Story (2015) is a absolute blast. This Holiday Anthology Horror move is not only fun it is actually genuinely scary at times. It features 4 intertwining Christmas themed story’s with a sort of wraparound with a radio DJ played by William Shatner. Most Anthology movies always have a “weak” story but this movie is well pasted in a way that every time it go’s back to one of the stories you are happy it did and the way they connect works well and manages to keep the Christmas feeling Throughout. This has become a must watch every year film for me. 4 out of 5 Pentagrams WTF moment: the twist at the end blew my mind the first time. Really cool. . . #Horror #horrormovies #Cult #cultclassic #slasher #Monster #ghosts #666 #Demon #Devil #eyeofnewt #Movie #review #movies #Moviereview #witch #Suspense #Thriller #Genre
