Can I get some work-stressy, depressy Commander Foxxy having a crush on somebody please? ♥
A/N: Hey!! Sorry it took me so long to get round to this, I've been through a bit of a rough time recently and writing has unfortunately taken a back seat for a long time. I also most definitely haven't read though it as much as I should've. Most definitely not up to my usual standard so I do apologise. I hope it's still decent tho!! <3
'My Pleasure, Senator'
Commander Fox x reader Summary: Fox is always know for being efficient, for having a reliable and firm work ethic. A certain Senator manages to bring out a gentler softer side to him though... Word count: 2,1k C/W: fluff and slight awkwardness my masterlist
Fox didn’t do crushes.
Some of his brothers seemed to enjoy it. Hell, Thorn seemed to be a natural, he could flirt with a rock if he had to and still make it fall head over heels for him.
But Fox had always tried to keep his distance from it all. It wasn’t realistic. He’d never be able to keep a good relationship with his lifestyle, so why even bother entertaining the idea?
That was, until he met you.
Where he used to think crushes weren’t worth the trouble, now he was willing to do all sorts of stupid things just to see you. Walk the long way round just to catch a glimpse of you. Take just a little extra time at the caff machine because he knew you came every day at 0600 hours without fail. Volunteer for Senate security duty even though it was the most boring of all, just so he could watch you in congress.
Fox really did not do crushes.
So why did he have such a massive one on you?
—--
It seemed so silly really. It’s not like he’d ever be able to be with you.
You were a senator, you had responsibilities, bigger problems. And he was a clone Commander in the Guard, which came with more than its fair share of its own responsibilities.
But still, just the thought of you made it that little bit easier to wake up in the morning. Gave him that extra motivation to show up.
Suddenly, he looked forward to things more. He’d replay all your tiny little interactions in his head when he was bored on patrol. The mere thought of you making the long lonely shifts pass quicker. As much as it pained him to admit it, you truly had him wrapped around your little finger.
He'd pick up extra shifts just to be where you would be. Speech at the Senate? He was there. Needed a squad to escort you off world? He’s first in line.
He wasn’t actively trying to make a move on you. But your presence was just… calming.
It was nice to watch you, be with you, listen to you. He just liked you.
He admired your gentle way of expressing yourself. It was one of the first things that had ever brought you to his attention.
He was on senate security duty, picking up the shift that everyone hated and avoided. All the proud and aloof senators arguing together. In this particular senate session, you were presenting your case against some of the abysmal work conditions in the lower levels of Coruscant.
You were respectful, but you weren't going to let yourself be pushed around, that much was obvious.
Firm, but subtle. Gentle, but determined.
He was so enraptured he didn't even check the time once during the whole shift. Something that he’d usually do every 5 minutes, begging for it to be over.
The first time he’d actually interacted with you outside of Senate was when his squad was assigned as a security escort for you.
You'd talked to him and his brothers like they were actual fellow humans and made a point of thanking them all personally afterward. Even going so far as sending a small packet of fancy caff grounds to the guard quarters, after they had confided in you that they all practically lived off it.
This small action quickly made you a guard favourite, the boys always sending you a polite nod or a little salute when they passed you in the senate halls.
This also meant that anytime you sent in a request for help of any kind, the boys were always quick and eager to get it done and delivered for you.
So that brought you to Fox, strolling to your personal quarters in the late hours of the evening.
Could he have sent these files on his datapad? Probably. But, as mentioned before, he truly would take any excuse to see you.
He knocked on the door of your quarters, taking a step back and tucking his helmet under his arm. He runs a hand through his hair as he waits for you to answer.
Your door slides open, your face peaking out into the corridor, smile quickly forming when you realised who it was.
"Oh Commander Fox" you stepped out into the corridor, smoothing your clothes subtly and tucking some stray hairs behind your ears "How can I help you?"
His eyes quickly ran down your form, taking in the relaxed clothes you were in, your hair gathered messily on top of your head. His eyes lingering on your bare face. Pretty.
"Sorry Senator, I only wanted to deliver the reports you asked for" he handed you the datapad before ducking his head and turning away "I'll be on my way"
"Fox" you called after him, making him stop and turn around "Thank you” you say before he can turn away again.
Simple, sweet. Yet Fox’ heart still does a little dance in his chest.
He smiles back, uncharacteristically soft for him “My pleasure, Senator”
“I’ll be sure to have it back to you by tomorrow” you assure, tapping the datapad.
He nods “No rush, as long as you need. Just send me comm when you need me to come pick it up”
Your eyes linger slightly over his face, the bags under his eyes, silently taking it in although you don’t say anything. Instead you nod, still smiling that same gentle smile “Will do” you assure “Get some rest Commander” you add
Fox nods, giving you a small almost teasing salute “You too, Senator”
You lock eyes for another second before he turns on his heels. You find yourself smiling as you watch him walk down the corridor, only breaking out of it once he rounds the corner.
You walk back into your quarters, setting the datapad on your desk as you sit back down on your chair, pulling your legs up towards your chest as you get comfortable.
It’s late, late enough that the only light is coming from your desk lamp. You should be resting, but you really do need to finish this speech for the senate.
You find your mind wandering back to Fox as you work. You think about how tired he looked. He always does to be fair, but he looked even more so tonight.
He was still in his full armour when he dropped off the datapad, so he must’ve come straight from patrol to you. And knowing him he probably went straight back to patrol after seeing you instead of resting like you’d said.
You smile gently as you think, shaking your head. He truly was impossible, but the work ethic was admirable.
The datapad screen starts to dim in front of you and you realise you’ve been staring at it without actually working. You shake yourself from your thoughts, tapping the screen to stop it from turning off as you get back to work.

The next day Fox finds himself checking his comm more frequently, waiting for your message to pop up. But as the afternoon goes on, it never shows up.
He’d been hoping to be able to use the excuse to see you again, but he brushes off the disappointment. You’d probably been working too hard as usual.
It isn't until late that night, when he's on shift in the holding cells, that he hears a light tap on the glass pane in front of him. He looks up, seeing you standing on the other side with that same gentle smile he has come to love.
You give him a little wave “Hello Commander” your voice crackles through the comms “I thought I would drop the datapad off in person seeing as you were so kind to bring it to my quarters the other night” you explain, lifting the datapad in question to show him.
“Oh” he replies, taken aback “Oh no problem Senator, I would’ve been more than happy to pick it up. That's what I’m here for”
“I know, but I was passing this way anyway so…” you trail off, shrugging.
He nods, looking back at you for a beat before noticing you still have the datapad in hand. “Hang on, I’ll come round to you” he says as he gets up. You watch as he walks towards the door, disappearing from sight before he’s rounding the corner in front of you instead.
“I thought you would've been finished with it earlier” he comments as he takes the datapad from you. There's no malice behind the words, he just wants to keep the conversation going as an excuse for you to stay a bit longer.
“I was” you admit, apparently also happy to keep the conversation going “But I knew you had a shift here tonight so I thought I’d just bring it by myself instead”
“Oh” he smiles slightly under his helmet, a warm feeling filling him as he realises you obviously know his shift times “Well that is very kind of you Senator”
“My pleasure” you smile back, polite and pleasant as always.
You had actually finished with it way before, but you’d been saving it up all day as a little excuse to see him. You stay put as he taps a couple times at the datapad, blue light reflecting on his visor.
“You have all the guard shifts memorised?” He asks teasingly, glancing up at you from the screen.
You smile, shrugging “Only the ones I care about.”
He chuckles, setting the datapad down on the ledge beside him and turning his full attention to you “I see. You should do me a favour and memorise Thorns shifts too. Maybe then he would actually show up on time” he jokes
You chuckle “I take it he's late to his shift tonight?”
He nods “Technically, yes. But it’s just going to be me tonight.”
It was supposed to be minimum of two guards in the control room at all times, but nobody liked the night shift. And the squad had been working hard this week so Fox had agreed to cover for them tonight. More than half the cells were empty anyway, why should they all have to suffer the night for nothing?
“Oh good” you answer, pulling a cup of caff from you bag “Because I only brought one”
He chuckles, shaking his head slightly in disbelief “For me?”
You hum, nodding as you extend it towards him “You want it or not?”
He takes it from you gratefully, other hand swiftly pulling his helmet off and setting it down beside the datapad.
You look up at him, taking in the messy curls in his head and the tired yet content look on his face as he takes a sip before setting it down on the ledge next to him.
A slightly teasing smile graces his lips as he turns to look at you again “How’d you know I like it black?”
“Lucky guess” you answer, although you both know that isn't true.
He hums “Right… like how you guessed I was on shift tonight, huh? You know I’m noticing a pattern here” he says knowingly
You shrug, smiling “As I said, I pay attention to things I care about” you add, eyes on his.
His eyes crinkle as he smiles, arms crossing as he leans forward just slightly “Well, lucky me then I guess”
He looks like he's just about to make another teasing comment when his comm beeps. The moment is broken as his attention is shifted to reading the message displayed on his wrist.
He looks back up at you, an apologetic and almost disappointed look on his face “Sorry, I do gotta take this…”
You wave him off, smiling although you are also a little disappointed the little moment is coming to a close “Oh no don’t be silly, it's no problem Fox. I’ll let you get to work”
His comm beeps again, but he doesn't even look down, eyes on you. He wants to thank you for coming by, for showing up, for taking an interest, for existing, just for everything.
But instead something simpler comes out his mouth. “Thank you.”
The words are simple, but the meaning behind them is clear.
You smile “My pleasure, Commander. I’ll see you around?”
He nods, smiling softly. He would travel across half the galaxy if it means he could get to see you just for a few minutes.
“Of course Senator”
