It’s hitting me NOW that he won Silverstone. Like Wdym MY driver won HIS homerace I’m so emotional I can’t.
Silverstone this weekend I think Max will be on the podium again, with one of the Mercs probably Kimi, and I'll say Lewis as well.
Cisca crying and saying "Enjoy it"
THANKS CISCA, NOW I AM CRYING TOO😭
if verstappen is p1 then p2 is the winner i don’t make the rules CONGRATS ON WINNING LANDO BABY
I love looking at telemetry data and I’ve finally got the script working that I can generate the telemetry after the session.
I’m still trying to figure it out mostly so this is kind of a trial but I’ve got a comparison of Hamilton, Verstappen and Leclerc in Q3.
This first one is a comparison of the speed of the cars on top in each of the sectors (each white vertical line indicates the start of a new sector) whilst the bottom one is the throttle application, with the graph below you can see at the points where each driver lifts off the throttle and you can compare it directly to the graph above to see the amount of speed they carry into a corner.
What is interesting with Leclerc’s throttle tracing is that it looks quite erratic compared to the other two, possibly showing that’s how the car has to be controlled or that he’s driving more on the edge.
This is the top graph a bit larger and you can see that Hamilton is able to carry more speed into each corner (with his line being the highest) but also in a lot of corners he drops down to the lowest speed.
You can see in this one which has the engine RPM that the Mercedes is running at a higher RPM than the Red Bull or the Ferrari, possibly indicating the use of a higher engine mode?
Another indication of Charles’ possibly erratic driving style is his braking, especially when you line it up with his throttle again.
He seems to be braking a lot more frequently than the others, and going from a lot of brake, to full throttle, back to brake whilst the others aren’t as aggressive.
Overall I would say that the Mercedes looks strong, as does the Ferrari at least over one lap, and at this point in the year we know the Red Bull is strong but it’s possible that Mercedes may have the edge over them.
FP1 Laptime Variation from 2020 to 2021
I've been recording and comparing the laptimes for both the 2020 and 2021 seasons and up until recently, the cars have been considerably slower at the tracks this year, up until now.
This first chart is the gap for each car from 2020 FP1 to 2021 FP1 at Silverstone, rather than using the drivers themselves the cars are just compared as the faster car from X team in 2020, compared to the faster car from the same team in 2021. As you can see the only team where both cars are slower this year than last is Aston Martin (negative bar indicates that the car is slower in 2021, and the larger the bar the bigger pace differential)
This is the average pace gap for each team between 2020 FP1 and 2021 FP1, as you can see both Aston Martin and Alpine are the teams that have lost time, with McLaren being the team that has found the most time between the two British Grand Prix, with teams on average being about 3 tenths of a second quicker this year.
